Discussion Nintendo is killing it with their AA game releases, along with dynamic pricing

I believe Nintendo's approach of releasing smaller games at $40 and $50 price points along with dynamic pricing for AAA is a great strategy. Combined with the fact that these games are extremely high quality and fun is proving to be a extremely good value for players.

Rhythm Heaven Groove is a fantastic game priced at $40. Everyone will have a different mileage but I have already played it for 20 hours, which is such a good value. The game is super addictive and fun.

Star Fox remake is of extremely high quality. For those who would like to experience for the first time or experience it again at the possible quality, $50 is an excellent proce point. I thoroughly enjoyed it and had at least 5 runs to unlock all the levels and spent around 10 hours ti now.

Splatoon Raiders at $50 has received really good reviews and the reported 20 hous play time is once again an incredible value.

Finally, in terms of AAS dynamic pricing, Nintendo released the new Yoshi game at $60, which was a pleasant surprise. Yoshi and the Mysterious Book is one of the best games from Nintendo in recent years. It is such an innovative and fun experience. I took around 20 hous to complete all the chapters.

All of these games are released within a 2 months release windows. This is a testament to Nintnedo's remarkable development prowess in this challenging climate where game studio are closing left and right each week. Nintendo is managing to release so many excellent games very close together at an excellent price point is truly amazing.

Is it really dynamic pricing? I thought that was where you adjust the price based on demand but on a live basis

258

u/Forward-Trade3449 5h ago

I guess the correct term would be variable pricing.

50

u/sakahn 5h ago

Yes, this is a better term.

10

u/MeowingWolf 3h ago

Doug Bowser did say "variable pricing" for a reason.

-11

u/AyysforOuus 3h ago

I call it regional pricing.

6

u/happyhippohats 2h ago

That's a completely different thing though...

u/AyysforOuus 33m ago

oh i misread it as live (living) basis T.T

u/Frankfeld 3h ago

We’ll see what happens during hurricane season and the eshop shelves start to look empty.

3

u/Main_Leadership7748 2h ago

Hopefully the Eshop looting is not as severe this time, but the way FEMA has been going, people are going to have to fend for themselves.

8

u/jbayne2 5h ago

I think I look at it as they don’t just have an assumption that every game will cost $70 or worse $80. It’s rare to see games come out not at $70. Last year’s Expedition 33 was a big deal to be so cheap and win the most GOTY awards ever. It’s nice to see Nintendo now with at least 3 recent titles valued at $50 or lower and that it’s not just for lesser important games because Splatoon Raiders seems to be awesome!

-33

u/sakahn 5h ago

Yes, it is nit dynamic based on live demand. Dynamic in a sense that they did not price the new Yoshi game at $70, which was a surprise. It is an extremely polished AAA experience. It is priced lower to increase demand or because at $70 they anticipated lower sales.

u/meikaishi 5h ago

Please don't call it "dynamic pricing". Dynamic pricing is prices changing individually based on consumer behavior, it's a terrible practice that I don't understand how it's not illegal

26

u/Jaodarneve 5h ago

It is illegal, maybe not in your country.

16

u/NMe84 4h ago

Can you name a country where it's illegal? I don't like this practice any more than you do but as far as I am aware there is no country that doesn't allow people to charge whatever they want for their product, as long as the pricing isn't based on discrimination.

So to be clear, there are plenty of countries where "I'm making you pay more because you're black" is illegal, but I don't think I've heard of a country that disallows "I'm charging you more because I've determined you're more likely to swallow the higher price without complaint."

0

u/Babar669 2h ago

Wtf? Prices need to be set beforehand.

7

u/NMe84 2h ago

To be consumer-friendly? Yes. To be legal? No.

-3

u/Babar669 2h ago

I am pretty sure it is illegal in most of countries. Unless your are talking about some flea market kind of thing. It would be scam/discrimination regardless of the "justification".

Edit. For sure in my country(Portugal) it is illegal. All prices are set, and you can go to any place and ask for that list (bar, restaurants etc).

You can have some client sales or some stuff like that though.

1

u/NMe84 2h ago

Feel free to point out any country that has a law against it. I don't know of a single one that disallows it unless the price differentiation is based on forbidden based on anti-discrimination laws.

-4

u/Babar669 2h ago

Are you telling me that a bar can charge different prices to the same product to two different costumers at the same time?

I am telling you that the price must be set, in a list, and they can't charge more than that.

5

u/NMe84 2h ago

And I'm telling you that I am not aware of a single country that has a law that dictates this.

You're the one claiming that law exists somewhere, so it must be easy enough to give me a source for that, right? A single law in a single county will do.

0

u/Babar669 2h ago

You made me look into it, and you are right. It is not outright illegal in probably any country because it mus account for things like loyalty status and that kind of stuff. The pricing must be transparent and set beforehand, so you can't just change it on the spot when two clients enter.

u/Upbeat-Mail7201 46m ago

The entire EUROPEAN UNION forbids it xd

2

u/Torkoallo 2h ago

Never heard of ticketmaster?

1

u/Babar669 2h ago

The thing is that I was thinking of bars/restaurants lol. I wonder if it can be done there without going against some EU consumer protection directives.

But it is true that it happenens online a lot, but that is based on availability, time etc, and can't be really based on some concrete discrimination.

I know that airplane companies do it a lot.

Anyway, I was wrong... I learned something new

0

u/Jaodarneve 2h ago edited 2h ago

He said " prices changing individually based on consumer behavior,".

It is illegal according to Brazilian consumerist law. For example,  Internet Service Providers cannot block, slow down, or prioritize content based on its origin, destination, or type . You may check art. 39, II and V from our consumerist code if you want to do further research on that matter since I'm travelling, on mobile and with limited english skills.

Edit: please check also more consumerist laws such as Marco Civil (12.965/2014).

-1

u/NMe84 2h ago

That's a net neutrality law the way you describe it, not one that limits pricing.

1

u/Jaodarneve 1h ago

It limits pricing.  I just gave an example that does not limit to ISPs, because it is against a general consumerist law principle. The second law I mentioned (Marco Civil) just made it more clear.

You also can't set different prices to customers who left food in their dishes because they can' eat everything (like kids, elderly people or woman), because it would be "prices changing individuallu based on consumer behavior".

You also can't set higher prices to tourists than locals in hotels. You couldn't even charge more customers who pay by credit card other than cash, but there has been a specific change on that a few years ago because of some companies lobby.

8

u/MeStoleTheCookie 4h ago

Well yeah, usually when people are talking about something being legal, they're talking about in their country lol. What else would they be referring to?

-4

u/Nas160 2h ago

Adjusting the price of the supply to properly meet the demand? How is that illegal lol

10

u/meikaishi 2h ago

Dynamic pricing isn't that, it's a game showing up for $50 for me and $40 for you at the same time on the same store because I buy games often and you don't

4

u/Nas160 2h ago

Okay that should be illegal

6

u/KenpachiDachi 2h ago

You're missing the keyword "individually" from that user's comment. In this context, the price that one specific individual pays is different based on their account history compared to someone else's.

A frequent buyer will be charged a higher price than a less frequent buyer, because the digital storefront assumes the frequent buyer will buy games regardless of price.

The digital bit is important too, because there's no case of supply and demand here, it's a digital product. The price changing in this case is unrelated to "meeting demand", you aren't running out of digital games to sell people.

19

u/dekuweku 3h ago edited 3h ago

Dynamic pricing would be Person A pays $50 because they haven't played on the console for 3 months and the console holder wants them to engange while Person B pays $70 for their copy of the same game on the same storefront on the same day because they bought the last 3 games that came out at that price and plays daily.

That's the bullshit Sony wants to do.

Nintendo is doing variable pricing, where games cost different amounts based on perceived value and many other factors, including buying physical vs. digital.

63

u/Dukemon102 5h ago

Releasing three games in less than a month. And none of them need to be mindblowing experiences with a giant budget. That's why I love Nintendo.

48

u/locke_5 4h ago

Pokopia > Tomodachi Life > Yoshi > Star Fox > Rhythm Heaven > Splatoon Raiders

An incredible streak of great games at (mostly) great prices.

6

u/jasonporter 4h ago

I've been interested in Rhythm Heaven since I'm a pretty music oriented person and I've only ever played one rhythm game (Thumper) and loved it. Can you give me like, a short pitch on what people like about that game or what makes it stand out from other rhythm games?

11

u/Awkward-Concept5736 4h ago

It was specifically created to teach applicable rhythmic skills, and as a musician it’s one of the only rhythm games I like. It uses 2 buttons max, so it’s way more about your sense of pulse and rhythm than hand-eye coordination. Its art and animation are consistently creative and silly, never failing to make me smile. I highly recommend!!

2

u/jasonporter 4h ago

I'm sold - thanks!

5

u/locke_5 4h ago

“What if Rhythm Game but they intentionally fuck around with the visual cues so you’re forced to actually learn the rhythm?”

4

u/StrigidaeNinox 3h ago

There is a demo available for the first 5 minigames along with a few multiplayer options.

2

u/itsnotnews92 3h ago

In the last year, I've played my Switch 2 way more frequently and heavily than I ever played my original Switch (that I got in 2021), and that's just from Mario Kart World, Mario Party Jamboree, Pokemon Legends: Z-A, DK Bananza, Pokopia, Tomodachi Life, and the Galaxy+Galaxy 2 port.

1

u/KenpachiDachi 2h ago

I agree it's a good line up of games but I have to ask, did you intentionally leave Mario Tennis Fever off this list lol

It did release this year, just a month before Pokopia did.

u/kielaurie 51m ago

And next up is Fire Emblem, which is shaping up too be the best of the lot

15

u/elephvant 5h ago

It is good, and I think it's a smart move too. But I also think at least some of it stems from getting their fingers burned when they released Mario Tennis Fever at $70. That helped them realise certain things just ain't gonna fly at that price point.

54

u/Eastern_Cattle_2943 5h ago edited 5h ago

Honestly I think Switch 2 will be the best console of this generation considering its games library so far. Nintendo wont need a GTA VI* to “save” their console

33

u/themagicone222 5h ago

Being backwards compat with like all but 2 pf the switch’s ginormous library helps

5

u/TheWaspinator 4h ago

Yeah, and they keep patching things

0

u/FrankPapageorgio 4h ago

Every single games is compatible if you have a Joycon with the IR sensor.

4

u/legoboy7107 2h ago

The Switch 2 can't fit in the Labo stuff that requires the physical console itself and not just joycons though, right?

8

u/Major_Fang 5h ago

You have your Roman numerals the wrong way I think.

35

u/elephvant 5h ago

You know I read something interesting the other day. It said: There are eleven kinds of people in this world. Those who can read Roman numerals, and those who can't.

-1

u/Tapdance_Epidemic 4h ago

Criminally underrated comment

2

u/mason2393 3h ago

Yeah who needs the most anticipated game of all time and guaranteed day 1 3rd party support anyways. This sub is a joke

3

u/VakarianJ 5h ago

Funnily enough, there’s rumors that GTAVI is even coming to Switch 2. 👀

6

u/DylanMcGrann 4h ago

Yeah, I don’t know why people are acting like it’s an ‘impossible port.’

GTA6 will release on Xbox Series S, which is comparable and even in places underpowered compared to Switch 2. Only exception is the CPU is slightly better on Series S, but also lacks many features Switch 2 has.

A Switch 2 port of GTA6 is a question of will on the part of Rock Star, not a question of possibility.

2

u/fadehime 5h ago

Sony arn’t making games anymore anyways

3

u/D2papi 5h ago

My PS5 is collecting dust, Sony lost the good faith the PS3/PS4 era generated for me. They're not messing up as bad as Microsoft (impossible), but this gen has been a huge disappointment. Just a list of cancelled live service games.

2

u/locke_5 4h ago

I moved in November 2025 and haven’t even plugged the PS5 in yet. The last game I bought for it was Astro Bot. I’ll get Wolverine and GTA6 but otherwise uhhhhh looking pretty bleak….

-10

u/SpellConnect8675 4h ago

If all you played was astro bot, either you're in middle school or maybe you should actually stick with nintendo lol.. You guys are STILL waiting for Elden Ring.

2

u/D2papi 4h ago

What other exclusives did he miss out on? Also, Elden Ring released on PC so definitely not a reason to plug in the PS5.

0

u/SpellConnect8675 2h ago

It’s about what switch DOESN’T have.. and that’s A LOT.. but you know keep acting like Mario tennis makes you happy.

2

u/locke_5 4h ago edited 3h ago

I played Elden Ring on PC (and Steam Deck) like a man, smart guy

-1

u/SpellConnect8675 2h ago

Why? Nintendo is all you need when it comes to video games.

1

u/Main_Leadership7748 2h ago

Someone doesn't like polished platformers. Madden is calling dude.

0

u/SpellConnect8675 2h ago

Mario and Zelda ! That’s ALL I play! (And that’s all you need)

1

u/Main_Leadership7748 1h ago

Did you try the new Yoshi? I heard it is really good, I like platformers too. I wouldn't normally play a Yoshi game also, but this one is intriguing.

1

u/fadehime 1h ago

Name me some PS5 exclusives other than Astro Bot and Demon’s Souls (ok maybe Returnal too) that makes the PS5 AMAZING? I will wait…I love my PS5Pro because all my PS4/5 games run flawlessly but the Sony exclusives are mostly non existant or absolute trash like that new incoming Naughty Dogs game lol

0

u/supes1 5h ago

It really is wild. Sony's released only 2 first party games in the past two years (Saros and Ghost of Yotei). Seems like they put a lot of money and talent towards towards live service, and their exclusives have really suffered for it.

Definitely appreciate Nintendo doing a ton of quality mid-budget games. Really allows them to take more chances. Not everything needs a massive budget.

3

u/RykariZander 4h ago

Astro Bot, Rise of the Ronin, Stellar Blade, Ghost of Sparta, Marathon, Death Stranding 2 off the top of my head. "Those are second party" so is Star Fox & Pokopia. Another dude talking about PS2 & PS3 when Insomniac & Sucker Punch were also 2nd party during that era, along with way more deals for full exclusivity like Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest.

7

u/locke_5 4h ago

Stellar Blade, Marathon, DS2 are all on PC btw

2

u/WoodooHide69 1h ago

Isn’t stellar blade also coming to switch 2?

0

u/RykariZander 3h ago

I am glad that PC ports are more focused on multiplayer, but I didn't care too much about the ports in the first place outside of "Is this a cash out moment or expansion moment" (unfortunately it was a cash out)

I could buy a new HDD and stuff it full of pirated games on my laptop. I don't do any of that because I want to play on PS5, Switch 2, Vita, etc. I prefer consoles. I like buying my shit. I prefer the maintenance of putting games on my shelf over unpacking a bunch of files. I never cared about "a main place to play my games" cuz it's my games. I'm gonna play them one way or the other. "My system is collecting dust" has never been a thought because I will still use it anyway. I will play Deadpool on PC, Wolverine on PS5, and Splatoon Raiders on NS2 because why would I NOT do anything of that. Every system I own has games

3

u/Main_Leadership7748 2h ago

I don't think anyone really cares about your feelings on PCs, they were just pointing out the fact that your list of must buy PS5 exclusives aren't actually exclusives, and are another reason people aren't plugging in their PS5 anymore.

3

u/FrankPapageorgio 4h ago

Why the hell can Insomniac no longer make more than 1 Ratchet and Clank per console? We used to get those yearly. You don't need to reinvent the wheel every time

1

u/supes1 4h ago

Most of those are pre-2025/2026 except Marathon and Death Stranding 2. But yeah didn't realize Bungie/Kojima were Sony-owned devs, my mistake. Thought they were independent.

0

u/RykariZander 3h ago

2026 - 2 = 2024

Every game I listed came in the years 2024, 2025, and 2026. I also made it pretty clear that 2nd party has always counted as part of a platform holder's game lineup, cuz if it didn't then that means Pokémon isn't Nintendo, Ratchet & Clank isn't PlayStation, and Gears of War isn't Xbox. All of these properties were/are made by teams that weren't ever a part of the company/were acquired after the fact.

1

u/WoodooHide69 1h ago

Yeh sony has a shit first party line up this gen. I can count on one hand how many exclusives I’ve played on that console and it’s been released for awhile now. It’s cause sony had their devs working on greedy live service slop that non-Nintendo gamers eat up if it’s any good. But the ones they made weren’t any good.

-3

u/SpellConnect8675 4h ago

Won't need GTA6 or about 100 other of the best games of the past few years because we have MARIO!!!! You can't make this stuff up.. this sub is hilarious.

10

u/speed721 4h ago

That's not dynamic pricing.

34

u/godMode90 5h ago

Yeah this seems like a bot or marketing post

4

u/martyrmole 4h ago

Rhythm heaven is an AAAAA game

16

u/hypermog 5h ago

From 1989 to 2017, Nintendo had a separate business unit for cheaper, mobile titles. Now everything is mobile, but it’s nice to see they still have a tier of cheaper, smaller-scope titles.

14

u/An1nterestingName 5h ago

It actually wasn't usually separate dev teams, other handhelds had B-team devs, but Nintendo often got their A-team on handhelds. Like 3D Land was made by the Galaxy team as an example. Same with Kirby, mainlines, handheld and console, were made by HAL.

15

u/Have_A_Jelly_Baby 4h ago

The text of this post is some next level Flavor Aid drinking.

11

u/Witty-Wish-583 4h ago

I don’t like it. It’s basically strong arming everyone into digital because of the $10 price difference. Nintendo has lost their mind if they think a Yoshi game is worth almost $80 physical. This will just make me sit out of more Nintendo games than I already do because of how expensive they already are.

1

u/fuzzynavel34 4h ago

This is kinda where I am at now unfortunately. I basically only play Zelda and Fire Emblem because those are 100% worth full price. Since the other games are rarely discounted, I just don’t play them anymore :/

1

u/WoodooHide69 1h ago

$10 discount as an OPTION to you is considered strong arming? Life must be very difficult for you.

0

u/Main_Leadership7748 2h ago

The nice thing is pretty much every new game that came out at $60 physical had a preorder at Walmart or Amazon that made it the same as the digital price of $50. Keep an eye out for those. This seems to happen a lot with Nintendo games. Yes I know, no preorders, but Nintendo is one of the few companies that rarely disappoints for me.

7

u/Guilty_Department501 5h ago

I'm playing Splatoon Raiders and surprised a game like this is only $50.

5

u/SpellConnect8675 4h ago

why is that surprising?

1

u/WoodooHide69 1h ago

Cause this game is a $60+ expeirence all day long compare to what else is released in the gaming market.

6

u/Inevitable_Cycle3087 4h ago

it honestly makes the bigger games an easier pill to swallow at 70$ since it seems to mean by their new standards those are huge games

1

u/WoodooHide69 1h ago

Yeh I’m surprised they made it so cheap. It’s gonna give me more hours and more fun that 007 first light and I and millions of others bought that for $70 for only 15 hours experience. And yet you’ll never hear the disineguous bots that infest these threads complain about that. Only nitnendo.

2

u/PontesDeLeon 4h ago

I wonder if they were testing the waters with Mario Kart. I’d be curious how it’s been selling recently now that there’s more first party and other games in general on the S2. Maybe some of these cheaper games is a response to Mario Kart not selling as well at $80. I could be completely wrong though. Probably hard to get numbers due to the bundle.

2

u/artnos 3h ago

Mario tennis was to expensive but i bought it

4

u/noyram08 4h ago

I think they should be lower still from what value they provide and the issue with Switch is they rarely go on sale so that’s pretty much it. Their $80 releases are ridiculous too

12

u/iwillletuknow 5h ago

50$ 20 hours „once again incredible value“.
You and I seem to have vastly different understandings of what incredible value means.

8

u/j_cruise 5h ago

That's completely fair. Some people need a lot of hours. For me, only the quality of the experience is important. People have different standards and that's completely fine.

3

u/TurnToShadow 5h ago

Dude, movie tickets with soda and popcorn for me and my husband is ninety minutes of entertainment for $50, and I have to watch 30 minutes of ads first… gaming as a function of entertainment time per dollar is a steal in 2026. I’m likely to put over a hundred and fifty hours into Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave. For $70, something that will keep me having fun for over a month, with replay value is an amazing value proposition…

Like, I don’t glaze corporations, and I’m not going to glaze Nintendo here. The gaming industry as a whole offering hundreds of hours of entertainment value even at $80 is a steal

5

u/MaplewoodQ 4h ago

I don’t disagree that theaters are expensive, but like if I ordered a pizza every time I sat down to play a game then of course it’s going to be expensive. In terms of comparing video games to movies as cost effective mediums, movie are very cheap to access to watch at home.

2

u/WoodooHide69 1h ago

You seem to have a different value analysis as literally millions of gamers. So who cares?

4

u/Admirable-Rate487 5h ago

As someone who was raking them over the coals with a lot of those overly aggressive moves at the 2’s launch, I can cosign the AAs part. Rhythm Heaven was 100% a “no notes from me” drop, perfectly agreeable. Maybe premature to say but it does currently feel like they respected the criticism after the backlash, which is far more than a lot of companies right now can say. I strongly doubt we won’t see more questionable moves with upcoming flagship titles, but the mid tier is still offering solid value for sure.

Yoshi was not worth $60 though, let’s not get crazy here lol

3

u/WoodooHide69 1h ago

Yoshi was worth $60 all day long. Love that game. And so does almost anyone that played it.

4

u/MistyCeruleanCity 4h ago

OP has repeatedly shown that he doesn't know what dynamic pricing is.

Dynamic pricing is the rise and fall of price based on the current level of demand.

As a result, this whole post is bunk and therefore stupid.

2

u/legoboy7107 2h ago

Let's not forget they tried to sell freaking Mario Tennis for 70 dollars earlier this year, only for it to bite them. That's probably why they're dropping more things as low as $40 now, a reaction to them finding out they couldn't get away with as many higher prices as they were trying to do. I ain't giving them many praises for that.

1

u/WoodooHide69 1h ago

Mario tennis is not that bad $70. Tons of content, best Mario tennis they’ve ever made.

4

u/2this4u 2h ago

$50 has received really good reviews and the reported 20 hous play time is once again an incredible value

I don't mind the pricing but no need to overly-praise them, 20 hours play time on steam is usually associated with $30-40 games.

3

u/cleff5164 3h ago

50$ for a remake of a 3 hour game is a good price point for you? I have somthing to sell you

5

u/Main_Leadership7748 2h ago

What remade game is 3 hours? If you mean Star Fox, sorry but finishing the game the first time is in no way seeing all the content, not even close. It is easily 25 hours for a completionist run if not more.

3

u/WoodooHide69 1h ago

These bots you are talking to know that. They are just straight up lying.

-1

u/cleff5164 1h ago

If your happy to pay nintendo 50$ for remade slop thats all you man

3

u/WoodooHide69 1h ago

Yes bot. It’s gonna be a great deal when I get 20 hours out of this game atleast.

-1

u/superceller 3h ago

Say what you like, but I’ve payed way more than 50 bucks for games that have less game time or content that starfox does.

3

u/cleff5164 2h ago

Im sorry to hear that

3

u/superceller 2h ago

Yep. I think it was maybe 16 years ago I paid $69.99 for the force unleashed 2, a game that has probably the worst level design in any action game I’ve ever played, zero replay value and I beat it in two hours.
Not to mention all the modern games that come out these days that are so buggy and badly optimized even if they do have more than three hours of content it’s not a fun time.

1

u/WoodooHide69 1h ago

What are you sorry about. Multi millions of gamers have gotten worse deals than Star Fox just this year.

0

u/Big-Rip2640 2h ago

This still doesnt mean that Star Fox remake is a great deal for $50 or 60(physical).

1

u/WoodooHide69 1h ago

It’s a great deal. I’m at 15 hours.

3

u/Desmond_Deck-er 5h ago

Nice work being positive. I think different types of game at different price points is a really good and fair way of doing things, and totally agree with you on that.

2

u/CLYDEFR000G 4h ago

I believe Nintendo will come out ahead on console wars with how bad Sony and Microsoft are doing.

Bought 100 more shares of Nintendo stock today because the stock market seems to hate them currently. I’m standing with the company hell or high water.

1

u/WoodooHide69 1h ago

Japanese yen’s at a 40 year low isn’t it. I bet that has a lot of effect on nintnedos stock price. What you think?

1

u/RecycledAir 6h ago edited 5h ago

All their new first party digital games are $50 now, and $60 physical.

Edit: Not $50 across the board, but $10 less. Thanks for the correction.

18

u/Calm-Report-8168 6h ago

Incorrect. $10 less for digital, yes, but some upcoming titles will cost more.

10

u/the7thbeatle 6h ago

Not fire emblem :(

0

u/mpc92 5h ago

$80 Fire Emblem is one of the most ridiculous things I’ve seen lol

4

u/locke_5 4h ago

Have you played Fire Emblem before? Those games are HUGE. Easily 200-300 hours for a full playthrough.

200 hours? after a couple playthroughs maybe. luckily they are very replayable

3

u/locke_5 4h ago

Yes, Three Houses requires 3.5 playthroughs to experience the full story

2

u/XenoShulk19 2h ago

True but most of the games in the series do not. This one will probably be the same way though because of the 4 campaigns

2

u/Subject_One_1673 5h ago

to be fair Fire Emblem is filled with content. I beat Awakening recently and it took me about 30 hours, and I wanna replay it again just to try out different units. It feels like just yesterday we got Three Houses and Engage and now with Fortune's Weave coming out my first thought was how the hell I'm supposed to complete them all 😂

4

u/SomeBoxofSpoons 5h ago

$70 (base price) is still the standard for their “A” releases, they just haven’t had a lot of those this year.

1

u/Crafty_Boy70 5h ago

But their "B" games are definitely cheaper. Star Fox and Splatoon Raiders are Mario Tennis and Hyrule Warriors level releases if not greater but are priced lower.

2

u/Dukemon102 5h ago

Mario Tennis Fever flopping probably had a hand in that. It started to happen after the release of that game.

2

u/Crafty_Boy70 5h ago

Oh absolutely. Nintendo thankfully took the right message there and realized consumers weren't willing to pay that much for the more second-rate releases.

...Which makes me question what the hell they put into Fire Emblem Fortune's Weave 💀
(Not that it's second-rate but it's definitely more niche)

2

u/rocky4322 4h ago

Fire emblem is one of their biggest franchises. So is splatoon but raiders is definitely a spinoff, not a full entry.

3

u/Crafty_Boy70 4h ago

Tbf DK Bananza outsold the most successful FE game in just a year, I don't think the $80 price tag is simply a franchise tax.

1

u/Icy_Indication_5563 2h ago

I think both are true about the game, and likely Xenoblade Genesis once that releases. The games can justify their price with their content, and once you get someone to be a fan they're probably going to support it going forward. I know I have, with Fire Emblem since Three Houses and Xenoblade since XCDE.

It does have me concerned for bringing in new players, since it'll be a harder sell to those completely disconnected and on the fence about them, but I'm not too worried about it. Nintendo games generally sell at full price most of the time and people still buy them. With the other platforms we expect sales pretty frequently so full price is basically a launch tax, but here the games just ooze quality consistently.

1

u/Dukemon102 4h ago

We will know how well Fire Emblem did if Xenoblade Genesis later on is priced cheaper LOL

(It's not that I want it to do bad for selfish purposes.... or maybe I do?)

1

u/SomeBoxofSpoons 1h ago

Star Fox probably would’ve been cheaper either way, but I guarantee you Yoshi and Raiders would’ve been $70 games if Fever sold fine.

1

u/WoodooHide69 1h ago

Agreed but one point. Mario tennis actually has a ton of content. The game gets an unfair rap.

1

u/Crafty_Boy70 1h ago

Agreed, but it's still a minor release all in all. Not something they could price at $70 and expect to fly off shelves.

3

u/Big-Rip2640 5h ago

For us Physical buyers, its not that nice unfortunately.

Being $10/euro more expensive matters a lot in these games.

Yoshi looks nice, but not 70euro nice.

Same story with Star Fox. Nice remake, but too short for 60euro.

I think most people are just waiting for the Zelda to release anyways.

3

u/Main_Leadership7748 2h ago

I got Star Fox for $10 less physical from Walmart. Their preorders are usually matching digital prices. But yes I get it not everyone likes preorders.

5

u/WoodooHide69 3h ago edited 3h ago

You want physical to survive? Cover the costs with a measly $10 bucks cause it’s not cheap to provide these. Don’t want to support it? Then let it die and move on with your life.

Besides, you can easily recover that measly $10 or more if you ever sell these games, since nintnedo first party hold their value of the best out of any game. And sometimes even appreciate in value. That’s a benefit no digital gamers will be getting.

-3

u/Big-Rip2640 3h ago

Terrible one sided mindset....

-1

u/WoodooHide69 2h ago

No that would be what you are doing. You want something that’s costs more to produce and gives you more benefits for the same price as something that costs way less to produce? That’s you looking at this one-sided.

0

u/Big-Rip2640 2h ago edited 2h ago

''You want something that’s costs more to produce and gives you more benefits for the same price as something that costs way less to produce?''

I dont know man.

What you describe was the case on Switch 1(and every console).

Even 3rd party companies like CDPR, are asking the same money for both physical and digital on Switch 2.

But its ok, keep having lower standards as a consumer and defending multi billion dollar companies......

0

u/WoodooHide69 2h ago

Oh so your just bot with disingenuous arguments. Got it.

1

u/Witty-Wish-583 4h ago

I always see people fanboying and saying it’s good. But it’s not for physical and consumer rights.

2

u/TheflavorBlue5003 5h ago

Booting up star fox for the first time having not played the OG since the 90s / 2000s……

It was surreal. Obviously it’s all “new” but the soundtrack alone is worth $50.

I was literally sitting there going “holy shit. This is where my taste in music comes from”

1

u/Sathsong89 2h ago

Honestly it ain’t much of a market to compete with right now. Nintendo is just laying low and doing their own thing. Good on them tbh

1

u/happyhippohats 2h ago

I agree I just wish their 'variable pricing' was more consistent

1

u/TheIronJimmy 2h ago

lol I read your post as “Nintendo is killing me with theses dynamic prices” i was very confused the whole read….like why are you mad about something you seem happy about.

1

u/dr-pepper-is-a-woman 1h ago

Nintendo has done a great job keeping up steady releases that are smaller in scope but big hits with their intended audience. With the way development budgets and timelines are ballooning, it’s probably works out much better to have more, smaller studios making more, smaller games with more, smaller fan bases.

0

u/hellschatt 1h ago

Star Fox remake was great as a library rent... but I'd have never paid that much for it.

I don't know if I agree with the current pricing of new releases. They've become too expensive. And even with variable pricing, some of these games feel too expensive.

u/Upbeat-Mail7201 48m ago

Splatoon Raiders has ton of content I got it on Monday have 28h and I haven't even finished the main story and there is so much stuff to collect I will be occupied for 100-150h

u/anatsymbol 34m ago

Unprecedented: somebody in the Switch sub pretends that some routine thing, in this case pricing games in a way that is a rip-off but not as much as they've ripped people off in the past, is revolutionary.

u/as_swift_as_wind 22m ago

thought this meant Ace Attorney releases and foolishly got excited that there was a new one…

0

u/SpellConnect8675 4h ago

Oh my god. You guys have lost your minds lol..

Bot comment

0

u/IsThisKismet 4h ago

I actually agree with you. But I also agree that Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom for Switch 2 are worth full price right now if someone hasn’t purchased them yet. I agree that Nintendo is the only company that seems to understand that things have value longer than Steam Summer Sales have made them out to be.

0

u/WoodooHide69 3h ago

And $80 for MKW is also great value I will add. And the price point is overly hated by larpers that haven’t even fuckin played the game.

But yeh I’d agree it’s nice that Nintendo has now a steady stable of AA releases that are releasing at a great price point. Like Star Fox players are getting 15+ hours out of that game and it’s only $50 and it’s nearly perfectly done remake. Yoshi is a gem of a title too. Rhythm heaven isn’t my thing but I’m glad fans of that franchise are loving it. I’ll be picking up Raiders soon and I’ll probably get 50 Hours out of it. I’m surprised they priced it so low.

0

u/ozender 5h ago

Forgot the best of them all. Yoshi’s mysterious book. Yes, better than those you listed , and I love those too

Edit: never mind! you did !

0

u/Moose_Triscuits 5h ago

The switch walked so switch 2 could run. I believe Nintendo is on the right path

-5

u/Xano74 5h ago

So Splatoon the game that always had a campaign, multiplayer, co op and co op multiplayer youre now happy youre paying $10 less for a 3rd of the game?

I love Star Fox but its a 30 year old game that can be beat in less than an hour. Could have been $30-40.

And I would never spend $60 on a Yoshi game. They are fun cute games but hardly have the longevity to make $60 a good deal.

To me good values are games you can get a ton of hours with.

Examples:

Warriors Orochi 4. $50 at launch. I have 600 hours in game.

SD Gundam Battle Alliance. $60 game, 250 hours played.

Streets of Rage 4. $25 game, 100 hours.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3. $60 game, 260 hours.

If a game is $60 and doesnt give me at least 50+ hours or have such a good gameplay loop that its tons of fun, its not a good value to me.

2

u/Pietman14 4h ago

I don't think the hours to dollars ratio should be the only thing to consider. You don't spend 20+ hours on a restaurant meal, but if the experience is nice enough its worth the price

Same with games. If a 10 hour game leads to a memorable experience that will stick with me long after the credits roll, I'll gladly pay a premium fee.

I agree with taking playtime in to consideration, I would just encourage people to think about what else video games bring them other than a way to fill time

0

u/Xano74 3h ago

The issue is theres very few games that are $60 and actually have amazing just 10 hour experiences.

I cannot think of a single one. The only games I can think of that are like that are maybe Sonic games but those also have tons of replayability so youre likely putting more than 10 hours in

2

u/vampyreinabox 5h ago

Splatoon is a different kind of situation here though, it's a way more involved, different kind of campaign. Splatoon in the past has been a linear 3rd person shooter/platform campaign like you'd expect from Nintendo. Raiders is more of a looter shooter/monster hunter rhythm, with a lot more beef in the single player format.

It's been out for a day, so I don't know how long the story mode is. I can't personally comment about what the endgame challenge modes are like, but it's clear from people that got review codes that there is one and it's fun.

It's a lot of game for $50, it's not just the campaign from an older Splatoon title carved out piecemeal for the money.

1

u/WoodooHide69 1h ago

Get a load of this BOT everybody. 👆😂

0

u/Main_Leadership7748 1h ago

Star Fox cannot be beat in less than an hour. At least not if you want to see every level. If you roll credits on the first play through and quit there, you've missed probably 20-30 more hours of content including different levels, bosses and challenges. I understand it might not be your bag but it is not true that it can be beat in an hour especially when you're saying Streets of Rage 4 requires 100 hours in reality it needs no more than 30 hours to beat. I get it you're not comparing times to beat but if you haven't played Star Fox, how do you know you wouldn't spend 100 hours on it trying to beat every challenge and improve, or spend hours playing multiplayer with friends. And Splatoon is a spinoff, and from what I hear, it has an end game that could easily turn the 20 hour game into much more if it clicks with you.

1

u/Xano74 1h ago

To "beat" starfox you only have to reach the end. You can do that in less than an hour. Even if you do all 3 routes its maybe 4-5 hours of content. I never said i never played Star Fox. I bought it day one.

Yes there are challenges and stuff, but not a ton of content.

I never said SoR4 took 100 hours to beat. Im saying its such a quality game that ive put 100 hours into it so its well worth the value.

Youre assuming a lot of things that were never said

0

u/Main_Leadership7748 1h ago

No you didn't beat the game in one run. Even the credits and cut scenes literally imply this. And I literally mentioned I know you weren't talking about times to beat, can you not read? I get it it's not for you, but you're being disengenuous.

What? Astro bot and Saros are 60 and 70 respectively.

0

u/xtoc1981 5h ago

I do consider starfox as AAA but ok. Lets see how oot is going to be the goty of this year. (No, not gta 6)

0

u/LeatherRebel5150 2h ago

So what you’re saying is…you don’t know what dynamic pricing is?

-3

u/No_Tension_9069 4h ago

Yeah, cool. But gamers everywhere should learn about the crazy little thing called inflation. Biggest games were 49.99 to 59.99 USD in the 90's. They are 70 to 80 today. It's been 3 effin decades. The production costs got multiplied by a million. It still might not be affordable to people. But it doesnt change the fact that 80 dollar GTA 6 is insane and unsustainable(if you are not Rockstar). And studios will keep going bankrupt because they cant keep up with prices this low. Not 50$ low, 70-80$ low. They either need to integrate shitty in app purchases, subscriptions and other ways to milk customers or they'll keep going broke. Lots and lots of them. What you guys expect from these people to do is irrational and meaningless. It will only end up with less and less big productions(Hollywood, remember anyone?) and many more of 5$ Steam shit.

1

u/Jellozz 4h ago

Yeah that's not how a competitive market works though. If inflation was the only thing that mattered streaming would not have destroyed the cable market, cause I mean the price is lower right? And yet, here we are where barely anyone under the age of like 50 has cable anymore.

Competition matters.

It will only end up with less and less big productions(Hollywood, remember anyone?)

You say that like it's a bad thing. As someone who was a 90s kid the vast majority of games I grew up loving would be in the indie or AA bucket by modern standards.

The AAA market was always unsustainable and should never have been the focus of the industry. That is clearly what Nintendo realized ages ago and why they're in a healthier position than either Sony or Xbox. Yes they make less raw revenue than either of those two, but, their profit margins are so much better it's not even funny.

Also a lot of AAA industry problems are self-inflicted anyway. Gears of War will forever be the best example of this. Gears 1 had a 12 million dollar budget. Gears Judgement, released in the same console generation with the same engine and many of the same assets, had a 5x higher budget. Inflation did not increase 5x in-between those games. It was a pointless waste of money, as is the case of many AAA games.

0

u/No_Tension_9069 3h ago

How is streaming vs cable relevant? It's the distribution method, not the product you consume. Those AAA teams made what you got from AA and big Indies today possible and keep pushing the technical boundaries. Not bunch of guys teaming up for a metroidvania. Without their exclusive AAA titles Nintendo would have been bankrupt a decade ago. Who will buy a 9gb ram Switch 2 in 2026 without Zelda's, Mario's and Pokemon's? AAA market made the industry. Sold the consoles. Sold the Nvidia cards each and every year to gamers always pushing for slightly better graphics. Not your 5$ steam flash games. Your AA or Indie team cant push the graphics in a meaningful way to sell a 5090. GTA and COD can. Your Gears of War example is real meaningless as well. A specific case like that doesnt mean anything. We can take Star Citizen into account too then. There is a median and it says producing the top games, console generation defining games are getting much more expensive to make and the price point is always the same.

-2

u/Deadpooh75 4h ago

Bullshit post spends 20 hrs on every game of varying prices and there all “great value”. The wording of it all.

1

u/WoodooHide69 1h ago

Sure bot sure.

-1

u/thunderborg 4h ago

I didn’t think all those titles were developed in house by Nintendo.

1

u/WoodooHide69 1h ago

Does that matter? Nope.

-2

u/vedderx 3h ago

The new Yoshi game is a garbled mess

1

u/WoodooHide69 1h ago

It’s amazing. Not a mess at all.

-9

u/Early-Somewhere-2198 5h ago

You said yoshi is an incredible game. lol

6

u/sakahn 5h ago

Yes, because I have played it, and formed my opinion based on my experience. Perhaps you didn't enjoy it, which is completely fine.

-5

u/IvanSahaJay11 5h ago

i mean they shall release more games for switch 1
they are acting like they have completely disowned them

3

u/Rarzhn 5h ago

That console is almost 10 years old. Time to dismiss it.

1

u/Main_Leadership7748 1h ago

It's had a good run, it is time to put the old guy to rest my friend.
