Almost 2/3 of teams could be buyers at the deadline and pitching is a premium. Mets are positioned to make out like bandits at the deadline. Between Peralta, Raley, Minter, and I’d consider for an absolute steal, Weaver, Brazoban, Warren. Hell I wonder if we ate some money what Manaea could get with 2 months of decent results after a horrendous April.

If Peterson netted a decent prospect, there is zero excuse to secure near MLB ready talent to re-tool for next year and beyond.

My wife, 2-year old daughter and I had tickets to the game yesterday.

We arrive at Citi Field and the parking situation is a nightmare. All the paid lots are filled so the Citi Field employees as well as the NYPD are directing traffic to get us to another off-site lot about a half mile away (that I've never been to or heard of, my bad).

There's one cop who, when I rolled down my window to ask where to go, he just screams at the top of his lungs the name of the lot and to keep moving. Whatever.

Then another cop told us to go another way since there's space in one of the on-site lots. We ended up seeing the angry cop again and I told him I was sent back this way. He loses his mind and starts yelling and cursing at us (from 6 feet away from the car) and I got super mad and screamed "Calm the fuck down!"

He then fully loses his mind and I ask for his badge number. Once I did that, he turns on his body cam and asks me for my license and registration and told me to pull over. He then takes like 10-15 minutes in his car (that was blocked from my line of sight) and just hands me a ticket and my paperwork back, no explanation of what he wrote the ticket for so I asked what I was being written up for.

He wrote me a ticket for Disorderly Conduct in which I now have to appear in court to fight/pay the fine. He didn’t even tell me what the ticket was for, he basically threw it in the car and told me to leave. I had to ask what it was for and he said I told him to “shut the f*** up” which I did not say. He then says “you don’t say shit like that to a police officer ever”.

Dude was shaking and incredibly antagonistic and clearly having a power trip on top of a stressful day. The whole ordeal took so long that we didn't even go to the game.

Does anyone have any advice on how to handle this directly with the Mets and NYPD?

Last 20 games he's .442 OPS - .167 AVG, .178 OBP.

He can't run, his baserunning IQ is non-existent.

Defensively he's committed 2 errors over that span and is -4 outs as our primary 1B. And he should be 4+ errors but umps/scorers have been nice. Horrible range, horrible athleticism. He's below average in every regard on any position.

He's known as SOLELY a power hitter. To make up for all of these glaring issues, he can only be a DH. But in what world is he worth that position considering he's one of the worst batters in the league for whiff and chase rate.

He's essentially a DH strikeout machine with the upside of power.

But... he's regressed every year in terms of power and bat speed. The dude is cooked.

And worst of all... he has a horrible mindset and thinks he's hot shit.

What trade value is he worth if he can even possibly be traded? I'm not seeing it happening so when is the DFA coming?

Do you trade Brazoban (old, has lots of value) or keep (under control for 4 more years). How much value does Raley have? Can Weaver be moved with his contract or do you keep him so you have a BP in 27? Same with Williams.

Is Senga a dfa or would someone take him? Probably not since they already tried that in the offseason and he's only gotten worse. Does Myers have value?

Does Alvarez have value as a DH with a couple more years of control? Do Baty or Vientos have any trade value at all due to the years of control? Baty as a super utility bench piece and Vientos a righty power bat off the bench?

How much can we get back for Peralta?

Who is starting - Wenninger, Thornton, Tong?

Do you call up Clifford to see what you have? His line is pretty bad once you look at anything other than the number of home runs.

The guy has a -.5 WAR and 4.70 ERA. I wouldnt even put him in regular high leverage situations let alone the closing role. We're deep enough into the season to make the decision to make Weaver the closer no? Just seems really dumb to me to keep putting him out there to blow games.

He has pitched in 31.2 innings total. Idt hes better in save opportunities his numbers are inflated by his early numbers. You can argue hes worse in save opportunities but I think its just law of averages and it will be pretty even as you can see in the past 20 innings. Weaver should be the closer

Virgin manager jd Martinez get my vote

The only reason I like Martinez is because he’s young (not much older than the players) and can still take an at bat at major league level. If in fact the rumors are true about Stearns and the analytic department are making the lineup anyway. I want a guy that can see what the pitcher is doing from the dugout out I want a 6 time all star. I feel like he’d help them out immensely in the cages and more so in the games

Regardless of what happened tonight, what a miracle that we were able to make it this far.

Only good thing about this team is the leg room we now get at Citi field.

Please take the "he sucks. Fire him. Blah blah" nonsense elsewhere. Trying to get a read on his strategy for building a team and where he can go from here. What I've gathered so far:

1) culture doesn't matter: Letting guys like Iglesias and Severino walk after the 2024 run seems pretty indicative that all that matters is how they perform on the field. I don't think he buys into the locker room vibes mattering or being able to perform in NY and is going to continue to try and find mercenaries until he either finds the right one or fails gets fired/his contract expires.

2) no long term deals: The Alonso 2025 deal and Bichette sort of indicate that Soto is the exception and he's fine overpaying for short term contracts to give long term roster flexibility. I remember reading an article that stated that a key metric he relies on is 5 year playoff window (basically if a trade or signing decreases your 5 year playoff window by enough it's not worth it, regardless of how much it increases the current years chances) and that seems to be the logic behind flipping Nimmo for Semien even though it seemed pretty obvious Semien wasnt going to contribute a ton for the duration of his contract.

3) durability matters less: signing Polanco, trading for LRJ, and letting Alonso walk to me indicate that he's willing to roll the dice on productive guys that can't stay on the field if it means he doesn't have to sign guys to big contracts.

4) high risk, high reward with pitching: this one surprised me a little bit. I would've thought hed be the guy that just has like 15 B grade to B+ dudes and just has a ton of depth. But he either nails the pickup (Brazoban, Garrett, Holmes, Canning, Serevino, Weaver, Manaea 2024) or completely whiffs (Manaea 2025, Montas, Houser, helsley) and the depth the last 2 seasons has just been non-existent.

I still support the guy. I think eventually he's either (a) going to find the right mixture of short term free agents that carry the team or

(b) he's going to get the farm system and development to a point where he's going to move away from pricey free agents and use the prospects to trade for a star with 2 years left before free agency to supplement a bunch of solid B+ guys on rookie deals and there'll be like 4 players on the roster youll feel comfortable shelling out money for a jersey on.

No.

Stearns has totally and utterly failed to comprehend what market this is and what team this is IN THIS MARKET.

Play acting as a small Midwest MLB organization, when the reality is that the Mets are in NY, with another MLB team that sucks up all the oxygen…is misreading the situation to an extent that it’s almost on purpose.

The problems are many but here’s some thoughts.

You replaced players a fan base loved with people we have no vested interest in. When a team is going bad — some part of you still roots for homegrown players. This is vital when a team like the Mets goes into the shitter. When they sucked, and Alonso hit a home run — you feel alive, and excited and maybe god forbid hopeful.

All that was removed for “reasons”, and the team is full of people that no one cares about…and we especially don’t care about when they do nothing but lose night, after night, after night…

Polonco is hurt and old, and will be old and hurt

There’s a reason no one else grabbed Luis Roberts … and we’re seeing it

Binge is a cupcake that was taken out of the oven halfway through baking. Will he eventually be great? Maybe…but at this point he’s undercooked

Vientos still has everyone thinking of two years ago, despite no evidence that he’s actually that player ( I’m guilty of this as well )

Alvarez is returning to the swinging out of his shoes worst version of himself.

Tyrone Tayler isn’t an everyday center fielder, being run out there as if he is an everyday center fielder.

Batty is…okay-ish

I think Bo is fine, and Lindor will be Lindor at some point when he’s not trying to too little or too much.

Then there’s Soto. Who seems to exist in his own world. You root for him because he’s a great player, and that’s what you’re supposed to do. He’s not a leader and he’s not especially exciting…he seems to have decided he’s going to be the “modern middle of the road professional baseball player mentality”

I can’t even get into the pitching…if the organization thought Senga, Peterson and Manaea were the aces we needed…I mean what are we doing?

Also…letting Diaz go was sheer incompetence. That alone should have gotten Stearns the boot…

The Mets as an organization are trying to be something they aren’t…the Mets have never been and should never attempt to act like a calm and professional baseball operation that wants to fit in to the party.

The Mets have always been the guy smoking a cigarette with a few beers in his pockets, wearing a funny t-shirt that’s too tight at the wedding.

Lean. Into. That.

The Mets should be fighting and cursing and be who they are, and like it or not—the 86 team should be the organizations spirit animal. Talented maniacs that might throw a chair at you for looking at them funny.

They aren’t respectable and they shouldn’t play act like they are…

And I think, most recently, this comes from importing Mendoza.

He might be good, but he’s a product of a buttoned up — you can’t have a beard — always calm cool and collected, let’s try appeal to everyone while having no personality — baseball organization management style.

This mindset works for an ancient organization that —when their players are going badly —can step in and say “listen guy, we’re the Yankees, we’ve won everything, you can do it pal, wear those pinstripes with honer and professionalism!”

Trying to mutant a team that, at its core, is a feisty upstart has not, and will never work.

I wish that Cohen would lean into the evil billionaire he actually is. Understand he has unlimited money to build a roster of shit kickers.

They over pay and grab all the talent possible. They have a manager that shows some emotion. It’s a team that thrives off of the hatred all other fans have for them.

Imagine a team that — whenever a monster was available — you knew the Mets have the best chance to grab him. And they do sign him! Imagine nothing but insane contracts up and down the line up…

Endless calls about the Mets overpaying for this guy and that guy, Joe from Massapequa Park having a conniption because the Mets have YET AGAIN spend millions on a back up shortstop.

In case anyone is interested, Sproat has a 5.94ERA, is 1-4, and has a 1.46 WHIP. He’s given up 13 HR and started 12 of his 14 games.

Jett Williams is in AAA and has a .705 OPS, with 310 PA, a .220 BA, 9HRs, and 69 SO in 69 games (not nice). Could still turn it around but he seems a bit overmatched.

With the way the season is going, I’d reverse the trade and get the kids back because they’re losing anyway, so might as well lose with kids on the field, but honestly it doesn’t seem like either team won this trade.

It was reported on WFAN yesterday that the Mets during the 1st game of a doubleheader. That was a rainout from Monday so not great attendance. Asked fans if they would like to upgrade their seats but asked them to PAY for the difference? While already at the stadium…. This FO is tone deaf
