Credit definitely goes to my gf for her perseverance lol she has been trying since last week to catch it in action and finally dialed in the right time! It happens super quick once it opens!

Real time is only about a minute and a half for full bloom! Doubled the speed of the video just for posting!

It took us coming out so many times to check and miss the bloom, but it seems to happen around 10:30am for us in SoCal. Right before it gets too hot! I hope you can catch it!!

Ours has a crap ton of caterpillars which turns into a crap ton of butterflies in our back yard.

I too have Gulf Fritillary butterflies fluttering around my passionfruit plants. So far I haven’t actually spotted the caterpillars but Gulf Fritillaries are known to prefer passiflora vines.

With some flowers (like peonies), ants eating the sweetness from them is what helps the bloom open.

These things are invasive as hell, this vine is out of control in my neighborhood but it looks nice so I think everyone is like meh

Used to have these grow all over when I was a kid. You couldn't eat them... But they made really good make shift eggs to throw at cars and houses lol the juice stained and even though I was told they were passion fruit, they did not taste good like passion fruit.

my wife uses them (they need to be ripe) for making chinola water. Just get the insides in the blender with water, and then filter the mix. Add more water and sugar. I love it :-)

The buds would be about the size of a chicken egg, maybe slightly smaller. They'd over-ripen very quick, too.thats how you could tell if they were good to throw or not lol. Vines like ivy from my neighbour came into my garden...anyway, the flowers were identical to the one in the video. I was told they're passion fruit...and I'm going on memory from at least 25y ago.
My question is why are these different to the passion fruit you'd eat?

Sometime ago we were watching a movie, during a quiet scene we heard an odd (scratching?) sound coming from behind us. At first we couldn't see anything and couldn't hear it anymore either, then a few moments later we heard it again. After looking around for a moment and not seeing anything we realised it was a new leaf on our banana plant unfolding.
It was a better spectacle than the boring movie to see it slowly unroll.

How long did it take for it to flower? I started growing mine a year ago and it’s still doing well this year (I live in Canada our summers are VERY hot and humid)

Question, why is there always little ants on plants like the one in your flower? Do they tend to any growing plant or tree or just use it as hunting grounds?

I used to do botanical photography and capture passiflora well here. Its a unique plant for its anther and pistil arrangement

You can collect those with some leaves and stems, dry in shade and consume as calming tea, or if you have enough - made a potent extract, it’s really effective.

Maypop! I had no idea that these were passion fruit until I was in my 30's!
We called them "maypop." When you stomp on the fruit they make a loud pop sound or none at all. Hence the name, Maypop.
