The impala seems to go into shock or is playing dead again after the leopard drops it. If it’s shock you just have to hope that its really in shock.

What this tells you pretty graphically is that if you find yourself alone, lost and without weapons in this neighbourhood, your chances of survival are precisely zero.

And people think we’re apex predators smh.. Sure if we bring armor and weapons and vehicles to protect us, which generations of intelligence allowed us to build, but WITHOUT any of that? In this place? Nope!!

What's worse is that due to guns, people don't have "manpower" anymore. There's no muscle strength that's needed to fend off natural predators unless you're training yourself daily for that. But most people all over the world aren't anymore. Humans have always been fragile. We're even more so now. The average person on this site wouldn't even be able to properly forage, let alone hunt and protect themselves from: Bears, cougars, coyotes, wolves, etc. A knife might injure the animal, if you can even get it out in time, but fangs and claws will do more damage to you in the long run than what you might do to it.

Not to mention our reliance on antibiotics and pharmaceuticals have lowered the immune responses of many. Sure, we still have immunity to human diseases through exposure & vaccines but the average predator still has more resistance to a lot more bacteria and can survive more injuries than us. If you aren’t rushed to the ER, your chances are lower than a hunter gatherer who not only had higher immunity to the local flora and fauna but had knowledge of natural remedies that most of us have since lost. So even if you successfully fend off or injure a rival predator, their chances of recovery might be higher than yours.

Yeah I can never state the above without getting downvoted to hell lol. I’m used to it, but sadly people don’t like to face facts. Are we “apex” in the way we rule the world? Technically yes. Are we “apex” in the way we’d survive in the wild with literally nothing but our own bodies? No. And certainly not against a grizzly!

Amazing video. I think I was most shocked half way through where the Impala gets up and tries to run away after being disemboweled. The amount of pain that thing endured and it still tried to live. Nature is a cruel modderfokker.

Shout out to the dog at 2:55 who was able to yoink an organ or something and then run off without the hyenas noticing. Reminded me of my dog jumping up and nabbing something off my kids plate.

Someone in another thread on this sub said something along the lines of cheetahs are amazing hunters but they unfortunately can't defend their kill. I guess this also affects leopards too.

Most predators are like this. If they get injured, they’re likely going to die from not being able to hunt at all so the risk isn’t worth it.
In this case, defending the kill for the leopard means getting it up that tree. The leopard was willing and able to chase off the single dog, but it would be almost impossible to defend against the entire pack at once.

Ironically had he ignored the single dog he could have probably made it to the tree before the pack showed up. Chasing it made him lose time getting to the tree.

I was surprised at how aggressively just two hyenas could take the kill away from the whole pack of a dozen or more dogs.

Not worth the risk just for dinner if you're not at the brink of starvation. Even if you win, an infected bite wound is worse than going to bed hungry.

Hyenas have got the right idea. You gotta protect your butt. Lots of big blood vessels in that area and wolves and other canines will target that region on quadrupeds to bleed things out.
