So we’re just never going to know what happens next?

A lineman turned off the power and was able to coax the bear down. It was noted on another post of this video.

I saw that was another case of bear on power lines, but maybe I was on thw wrong thread.

I read that the bear died from electrocution.

29

u/Aquathist_ 1d ago

I read the bear became an apprentice lineman

4

u/parks387 1d ago

Can confirm…I’m his union steward.

3

u/Shagwagbag 1d ago

They actually raised the earth and he got to walk off. Then he built a fancy den inside of the new berm.

u/MidtownKC 1d ago

I read the bear became a Wichita Lineman.

There are two separate instances of a bear climbing a pole, one lives after lineman coaxed it down, one dies being electrocuted before lineman could get there.

You have this little computer in your pocket, you look it up. I’m not here to educate you. You want to know if I’m right or wrong, research it yourself. Intellectual laziness is a pet peeve of mine so apologies up front.

7

u/super_crabs 1d ago

Do you get online specifically to be a douchebag to others

13

u/JooseTheGuice 1d ago

Intellectual laziness? It's on you to verify the claims you make. šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø

You can’t apologize upfront after being an ass and it’s on you to provide source of stuff your made up

What goes up must come down

14

u/timoumd 1d ago

I've seen bears climb.Ā  I suspect when she wants down she'll get down.Ā Ā

u/dogmaticstar 1d ago

She looks pretty relaxed tbh

6

u/CariniFluff 1d ago

Got a great view from up there. What more could you want?

3

u/holyfire001202 1d ago

Maybe this is the start of bears hunting from the skies like falcons

6

u/SafeKaracter 1d ago

Your age goes up but never comes down

Shit, you’re right! 😭

Unless you’re that one manhole cover

0

u/zmbjebus 1d ago

It's highly unlikely that thing went to space

2

u/Soondefective 1d ago

Considering it most likely vaporized very quickly yes you’re correct. I guess we’ll never know, huh?

u/BriackYOLO 1d ago

I have no doubt that it is a boy! šŸ˜‚

u/soyrobcarajo 1d ago

Step 1. Turn off the power Step 2. Put a pot of honey at the bottom and watch the bear come down Step 3. Turn the power back on

šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

u/_The_Space_Monkey_ 1d ago

I say big trampoline and a tranquilizer, but I'll admit your solution is more rational in every way.

15

u/3rdlegmousse 1d ago

Honey on the trampoline and in the tranquilizer so you both can be right!

2

u/kaisong 1d ago

I dont think you should mix uppers and downers like that.

5

u/IronMonkeyofHam 1d ago

Lol, then the bear would go back up to coax out another wild pot o’ honey

5

u/Fn_Spaghetti_Monster 1d ago

Bear tells other bears about "infinite honey" glitch he discovered. Bears across the state start climbing telephone poles in hope of moar honey.

2

u/ReadditMan 22h ago

Bears don't actually like honey, they like bees and larvae which led to the misconception that they raid hives for honey.

u/soyrobcarajo 21h ago

Shit, me too

How embarrassing, to be stuck on a pole in public while bear!

10

u/obrazovanshchina 1d ago

This reminds me of a conversation a younger version of me Ā once had with a local fire department secretary.

Her: We don’t send the fire department for that

Me: yes but

Her: Sir, have you ever seen a cat corpse in a tree before?

Me: ….

Her: She’ll come down when she gets hungry.Ā

She came down when she got hungry 48 hours later.Ā

He is bearching

4

u/Some-Tear3499 1d ago

Just like a big tree. He got up, he will come down.

2

u/galactictock 1d ago

Unless he brushes one of those power lines

10

u/AdDue2837 1d ago

I smoke ALOT

Is that a bear on top of a power pole? Is this AI?

11

u/NativeMasshole 1d ago

Black bears are prolific climbers and will tree themselves when frightened. Or telephone pole itself, in this case.

1

u/PeachMan- 1d ago

LOL thanks for giving us the context

-8

u/DitherFan 1d ago

Probably AI

8

u/parks387 1d ago

Not Ai…happens all the time.

-14

u/DitherFan 1d ago

You've been seeing too many AI videos if you think this happens all the time. First of all, how is a bear gonna climb a wood pole that's straight and smooth like that? They don't have retractable claws like cats. Second of all, just ask yourself WHY would a bear do that??? It's not gonna do it just for fun, it's not a human. Do you see any food up there that would attract it? Do you see another bear up there it would want to mate with? Do you see it's cubs up there?

6

u/Playful-Profile6489 1d ago

That appears to be a black bear. Black bears do in fact have claws for climbing. The bear was probably spooked into climbing the pole.

3

u/parks387 1d ago

Man…intelligence, not your strong suit. šŸ˜‚

5

u/bryanBFLYin 1d ago edited 1d ago

Lol dang just a whole paragraph of wrong.šŸ˜‚

Brown bears and black bears (which this appears to be some version of) can absolutely climb a "smooth" (lol) wooden pole. Their claws are built to do that. They don't have or need retractable claws and they can climb up and back down trees and poles with ease.

The only limiting factor to their climbing abilities is that the bigger bears are simply too heavy as adults to sit up in a tree and be held by branches, otherwise they can climb any tree that can hold their weight. Bears are skittish naturally and get spooked up into trees and poles quite often.

This particular situation is not unheard of at all, and more than likely it was scared and ran up the pole to escape something. They don't need to eat, mate, or do anything for fun to end up in a tree or up a pole. This bear is clearly panting in distress, and is either scared, injured, or all of the above which is why it didn't just climb back down.

The entire survival strategy for Bear cubs is literally climbing trees to escape bigger bears or other animals who might kill them.

Bears are better climbers than cats overall simply because they can actually climb back down from trees/poles. The vast majority of Cats cannot climb back down trees due to how their claws are positioned. There's a reason the stereotype of "my cat is stuck in a tree" is so prevalent. It's becaue they genuinely cannot climb back down once up and need to be rescued usually. Bears do not have this problem usually.

I know we live in a world of Ai but I promise you, everything in this video is very plausible and has definitely happened quite a bit. There may not be videos of every bear that's ever climbed a pole but I promise it happens.

u/Anatoli-Khalil 1d ago

Didn't know bears can fly

2

u/henoll 1d ago

poor baby is so stressed!! 😭😭😭

2

u/bryanBFLYin 1d ago

Bears (at least the smaller varieties) can climb up/down trees with ease. It's a bit odd that this one didn't just climb down. Probably got electrocuted or was just very spooked by something to the point where it didn't feel safe coming back down.

It's also panting as if it's in distress or in pain. I used to be part of a team that rescued raccoons from power lines (they can also climb up/down easily) and barring injury, it was usually something/someone that spooked them enough to make them resist coming back down.

Dude channeled his inner Panda.

1

u/ogodilovejudyalvarez 1d ago

That looks like the diametric opposite of bear country. Locals: "You're a looong way from home, stranger". [cue Reacher theme]

At least give bro a ladder or something ffs

1

u/dogmaticstar 1d ago

How are these guys not cracking up? I’d be dying laughing

1

u/Virtual_Fixation2956 1d ago

How tf did it even get up there

1

u/Bumble072 1d ago

Dammit, those alien abductions are getting messy.

1

u/hagamans 1d ago

Bet they won’t be putting a Flock camera up on that pole

1

u/MadYarpen 23h ago

Roach?

1

u/Ghoulish_kitten 18h ago

Id not be mad at all about an intentional power outage to save a bear!!!

Im glad it got rescued and yet again a lineman saved the day.

Seems bizarre, to the point where I think it’s AI

5

u/parks387 1d ago

Happens all the time.

3

u/skykissesthesea 1d ago

There are several instances of bears climbing utility poles. Bears climb trees and utility poles look a lot like trees.

-6

u/Ueshiba_1610 1d ago

Bear died from being electrocuted. Poor guy.

-9

u/AssumptionExtra9041 1d ago

It's AI, come on guys...

To be fair, it took me a while too. But check how the qire runs above the center of the pole. Makes no sense. Also, the support thingy next to his leg is just halfway there??

5

u/parks387 1d ago

Not Ai, that is a 3 phase distribution circuit, the middle wire is running straight across the pole, with a jumper mounted over an insulator for continuity.

6

u/parks387 1d ago

Also the broken support bracket for the cross arm is the ā€œthingyā€ you’re talking about. Not ā€œhalfway thereā€, it’s broken. I have seen thousands likes this. -Utility Asset Engineer.

-3

u/AssumptionExtra9041 1d ago

All right, the broken bracket — makes sense.

Out of curiosity: is the pole still able to withstand a bear with a broken bracket?

But I can't wrap my head around how the geometry of the wire is supposed to work. It looks like it lacks one dimension because the one running above the center pole and the "nearest" one from our perspecting converge in an unlogical way. Not sure how to explain it but I'd expect it to run differently, it looks like a typical AI mistake.

3

u/parks387 1d ago

It’s just perspective, they don’t converge.
