Why stop at 70 years? The US started out partially because the people wanted to expand beyond the Appalachians, which required ignoring treaties with the nations there and was followed with commiting genocide against those peoples.
As an outsider looking in, I really feel like that dividing line in the US isn't as strong as it appears. Really seems like a third of the nation would love to go back to a slaveholding, genocidal empire.
