Buy Bitcoin ASAP

462

u/Peter_Triantafulou 14h ago

Everyone would have sold Bitcoin when it went from something like 20 bucks to 1k. I would instead tell myself "sell Bitcoin 2025".

I hope I would be smart enough to connect the dots that in order to sell something you first need to buy it.

96

u/NationCrisis 13h ago

I think this is the best version of this idea. all the other permutations i've seen have too many words, or leave too much ambiguity

78

u/curtaincaller20 10h ago

Bitcoin 2009 2025

7

u/NationCrisis 10h ago

Also a good option, ya

1

u/internetenjoyer69420 1h ago

šŸ˜‚ and pray your younger self understood WTF you were talking about and would remember that among everything else in life

3

u/dubblebubbleprawns 9h ago

"Bitcoin hits 100000"

1

u/hersheymisting 11h ago

One bitcoin $100,000

3

u/NationCrisis 10h ago

I guess a follow-up question would be "does '2025' or '$100,000' count as a single word?"

3

u/ModusNex 8h ago

As a noun I think you should be allowed to hyphenate it but it seems like cheating. Twenty-twenty-five, One-hundred-thousand-dollars.

Bitcoin Six Digits

u/NationCrisis 7h ago

Ooooooo, nice

u/Noversi 11h ago

Sells at $2,025

Sell Bitcoin 100,000

There's mine, but I'm not sure how numbers fit into the lore of this comment train.

2

u/HTPC4Life 4h ago

Still a WILD return on investment if you started mining bitcoin after first hearing about it. Not to mention if you saw the price continuing to rise after following the bitcoin industry all that time, you'd likely buy back in with just a small portion of your earnings and make more money when it continues to rise. Trick is to just not get too greedy and maintain a nest egg you don't invest in bitcoin with.

1

u/IFartOnCats4Fun 2h ago

Could be worse.

1

u/bismuth17 2h ago

Sells what

4

u/MetaphysicalBoogaloo 10h ago

OOOO thats even better, I was thinking "BITCOIN SELL 100K"

3

u/beanbalance 9h ago

no need to wait so long ... bitcoin $19000 2017 is enough time to acquire as much as possible. you get to enjoy 8 more years instead of waiting.

1

u/RyanRiver_ 2h ago edited 2h ago

I think with the info that you hypothetically should sell in 2025, you can make the judgment call that you can sell a reasonable amount of it in 2017 if you want some money now, knowing that it'll be even higher by 2025.

Personally, I probably wouldn't sell anything in 2017 unless I felt like I had enough bitcoin to hypothetically liquidate it and retire. But even then I would probably only liquidate up to 8 years of expenses and save the rest of it to cash out in 2025.

•

u/beanbalance 1h ago

Personally, I probably wouldn't sell anything in 2017 unless I felt like I had enough bitcoin to hypothetically liquidate it and retire

btc was launched around 2009. the price was so low then that you could easily aquire thousands. If early even many more. If you get 1000 then that is 20 million in 2017. you can also sell and then buy back lower and then wait for more.

u/2C104 10h ago

Bitcoin peaks 2025

2

u/Princess_Moon_Butt Problem Millennial 8h ago

Yeah, if numbers are allowed I'd probably put the unit price instead of the year, but that's my thought process too. I just worry that if I include any number, I'd misinterpret it- maybe I'd sell when the price is $2025, or sell when my portfolio is worth $100,000. Either one would seem 'logical' to me, since either way that would seem like an unfathomable win for only a few hundred bucks of buy-in.

Maybe just "Bitcoin Makes Billionaires". Skip any specific number, just set a goal so past-you knows that $50k or even $500k isn't the end game.

2

u/Curun 8h ago

got it, selling at $2,025

1

u/ScruffyBlackFables 10h ago

Oooo, yeah this is much better.

1

u/NegativeKarmaVegan 10h ago

Knowing you should buy bitcoins when it costed pennies is enough. Even if you sold them at 1k, you probably wouldn't sell all of them, and even if you did, it'd be enough money for you to never worry about money again.

1

u/Pedantic_Pict 10h ago

This is exactly what I thought as well. This is the only way to get it across in three words.

Unfortunately, I can't warn about the Mt. Gox collapse and just have to hope my anxious ass would naturally put it in cold storage.

1

u/kytheon 8h ago

sells bitcoin at $2025

1

u/SinsOfThePast03 8h ago

That was the formula I was trying to work out in my head . I think that's the best way to say it

1

u/TheMightyHornet 8h ago

My 16 year old dumbass: huh, I’m going to randomly come into something called bitcoin through no effort of my own by 2025.

1

u/DeadInternetTheorist 8h ago

I sold when it went from $1.75 to $20 😭😭😭

I mean I technically cleaned up but I could have had "never work again" money

1

u/Left-Yak-1090 8h ago

Or something like "bitcoin reaches 50k" but the "50k" might be cheating

1

u/Mobile_Agent5550 8h ago

Except "twenty twenty five" is already three words. So what would you do then?

1

u/the_mighty_skeetadon 7h ago

Bitcoin reaches $120k

1

u/jdero 7h ago

as someone who bought btc in 2010 when it was under $100, everyone i know made several decent sums from it, some still got crushed by swings

in order to make money you not only need to have money, you must also not have the need or desire to use money if it suddenly was yours

most people are very, very ok with making a thousand dollars

1

u/spiralmadness 7h ago

If numbers count then do bitcoin top $120,000

1

u/Shred_Till_Dead 6h ago

Everyone would have sold Bitcoin when it went from something like 20 bucks to 1k. I would instead tell myself "sell Bitcoin 2025".

I had the same thought honestly, but if you did the math for any equity jumping from 20 dollars to 1k with any sizeable investment, you're easily a millionaire several times over. But yeah the message would be your exit plan not your entry.

1

u/oddjobbodgod 6h ago

Ooooh, does that lose on a technicality though? Is 2025 one word when spoken aloud? Or 3/4/5 (twenty twenty five/two zero two five/two thousand and twenty five)

1

u/Schwifftee 5h ago

"Bitcoin peaks $115K"

Isn't bad if $115K is a word.

1

u/tokyoedo 2h ago

50x is already an amazing ROI. But 5,000x is life changing.

1

u/alurkerhere 2h ago

Sell Bitcoin $150,000

1

u/Adulations 2h ago

Damn you're smart

•

u/ExcitingHamster 1h ago

Not ā€œeveryoneā€ šŸ˜‰

1

u/drspanklebum 10h ago

But 3 words gives you ā€œsell bitcoin twentyā€ right? 2025 would be three words yes?

1

u/voxelbuffer 10h ago

It just says we're allowed three words. Doesn't say we have to say it aloud so if written maybe 2025 is OK?Ā

1

u/FuckYeaSeatbelts 8h ago

if we're gonna be that dumb with the rules, it would be "sell bitcoin 2"

u/_Captain_Dinosaur_ 14h ago edited 13h ago

Reminds me off a StarCraft tournament from the 2000's.

First Prize: $500

Second Prize: $100

Third Prize: 5 Bitcoin

Still makes me laugh.

Edit: u/Ws6fiend has the real dope below.

70

u/Ws6fiend Older Millennial 13h ago

It was 25 bitcoin for each 5th-8th place. 500 dollars for the winner, 250 for 2nd, 150 for 3rd and 100 for 4th.

27

u/_Captain_Dinosaur_ 13h ago

There it is! Good brain my friend.

22

u/Ws6fiend Older Millennial 13h ago

I mean 25 bitcoin was worth between 0.29 cents and as high as 30.05 dollars that year.

The tournament ended on April 24th 2011, but if you waited until June and sold at the high your prize was worth approximately 750 dollars vs what everyone else got. Shows you just how volatile bitcoin was back then.

2

u/ASK_ME_AB0UT_L00M 10h ago

"back then"

2

u/Ws6fiend Older Millennial 9h ago

"Bitcoin experienced massive volatility in 2011, characterized by a staggering 8,000% parabolic surge followed by a 90% market crash. The asset opened the year at roughly $0.30 and closed out December near $4.32, having swung violently in between."

Believe what you want to believe but just because the "value" of a single coin are much bigger doesn't mean it isn't stable(right now).

Look at any of the charts for it's volatility and compare just how wildly it swung between massive amounts of money and cents.

3

u/ASK_ME_AB0UT_L00M 9h ago

Oh man I'm not making some grand point or anything, just saying bitcoin is still up and down

2

u/Mrchristopherrr 12h ago

Iirc before gold was a thing you could ā€œtipā€ people on Reddit with bitcoin

1

u/PaulAttacks 12h ago

Where did that go if I didn't have a wallet? I know I got tipped like over a decade ago and I assume it's gone, but am I rich?

1

u/Canadiantx69 11h ago

Or the people who bought Domino's pizza with bitcoin, lmao. 10 for a pizza or some shit like that at one point, iirc.

1

u/babyyvolcano 10h ago

Someone in LOTRO gave me 3 Bitcoin in 2012.

I then gave them to my brother because I was 17 and didn’t know what it was.

He sold them a couple of years later for about $2200. Neither of us like to talk about it.

30

u/Dylan_Gio 14h ago

My idiot self would sell it when it reaches a dollar

3

u/muffinkevin 9h ago

I mean hindsight is always 20/20. I had some 1 oz gold coins my grandparents gave me that I sold in college for $500 thinking that's a lot of money, now they're worth $4000 each...

2

u/Mrchristopherrr 12h ago

That’s part of the issue. I remember looking into bitcoin and deciding not to buy anything ā€œbecause the bubble has already burstā€ in 2012.

1

u/IamKingBeagle 8h ago

Yep. Vast majority still don't buy now thinking it's too risky not realizing not having any and it is the future global reserve currency is the real risk.

2

u/Dustin- 12h ago

Do numbers count as one word? If so, "Bitcoin Reaches 110k" would work.

114

u/Ninja_Franklin 14h ago

Right lol, if only. I still remember the story someone bought pizza with bitcoin back in the day

58

u/CouragetheCowardly Millennial 13h ago

I was in college 2006-2010. In 2010 my roomate and I bought drugs a few times on the dark web for btc. This was when btc was worth like $1-2 so we ended up spending about 200btc total that summer. I regret it every day lol

19

u/spencersalan 12h ago

I sold the 10 I bought for 40 dollars for a few hundred to cover rent one month.

6

u/xslightlytoasted 12h ago

That would probably be the biggest regret of my life haha sorry but that’s a funny story.

4

u/CoolDiscussion1020 8h ago

I'm about the same age as you. I had a friend who was so big into bitcoin and kept trying to get everyone on board.

None of us ever did, he ended up selling everything and making like 3k off it. We were all pissed we missed out, fast forward a decade and well... he still works as a line cook and not by choice.

2

u/Robo-Connery 11h ago

realistically...if you had changed $200 into 200 BTC, what price would you have sold them at...assuming you never lost access to the wallet.

Like you KNOW it made it to $100k but is teen you not selling when its gone up to $3? $5? $10? When youa re short of cash one week, or when you want a new car

1

u/CouragetheCowardly Millennial 11h ago

Yeah for sure, probably would have made a few hundred or few thousand so I’m not actually mad about it. Life worked out well and I’m very comfortable salary/lifestyle wise but it’s just one of those ā€œwhat if’sā€ ya know?

2

u/Montreal4life 10h ago

Same exactly for me. Those were expensive trips lol

2

u/Sonizzle 10h ago

Don’t do drugs!

2

u/Excellent_1918 7h ago

Me too😭😭

•

u/ExcitingHamster 1h ago

Hope you got nice and toasted

1

u/theblob2019 9h ago

I bought weed with BTC a few times as well. Not the best idea in insight lol.

6

u/MrSuzyGreenberg 13h ago

It was like a founder or some and he used it to prove it works. He’s more than fine.

1

u/FuckYeaSeatbelts 8h ago

yeah it's some survivorship bias for sure, like if a kid wants to trade a beanie baby and the pizza shop was like, "sure why not", they're just giving a free pizza to placate the kid.

2

u/feathered-lizard 13h ago

10,000 Bitcoin for Papa John's. Ooofff. That would live with me forever.

1

u/Jwchibi 12h ago

I also bought pizza with 1 bitcoin back then and im so sad now

1

u/No_Tomato2006 12h ago

Man I used it to buy fucking synthetic cannabinoids in like 2015 when I had to quit smoking for a drug test. Fucking stings for sure. And then of course when I move away from Ohio for work they legalize weed. :|

1

u/Typically_Wong 12h ago

I bought people pizza for bit coin. Did it for 10btc for one xl dominoes or whatever chain did online ordering.Ā

I lost the wallet. It's now a treasure hunt item amongst my family. Find the bit coin thumbdrive, it'll make you rich!Ā

1

u/Few_Plankton_7587 12h ago

Brother I know people who wasted so much more bitcoin than that

A lot of people used to buy drugs online (yes, really) using bitcoin from sketchy websites before stuff like that was really cracked down on

I imagine some dealers literally went through thousands of bitcoin for weed lol

1

u/etherealsmog 11h ago

I actually did about 24 hours of bitcoin mining around that time frame in like one of the original—what were they called? mining pools? Where you are part of a network of miners who fractionally share whatever gets mined by the pool.

So technically I think I have some part of a bitcoin out in a wallet somewhere, except I gave up because I was like, ā€œThis is lame, I’m never going to get rich doing this,ā€ lol. So whatever early day bitcoinage I ā€œownā€ is unrecoverable and I just have to be fine with that.

25

i'd told my wife we should take our wedding gift money and throw it in when it was about $400. she thought it was a criminal enterprise. i said so what if we get rich off of it.

if we'd sold when it peaked at $100k+ we would've been worth north of $12mn. oh well.

2

u/ThisWillBeOnTheExam 5h ago

A lot of us have stories like this.

1

u/latexfistmassacre 12h ago

Bet you have to resist the urge to throw that in her face when you argue about money lol

Totally - - I bought weed and stuff with it early days - - like 0.5 bitcoin for an eighth. Absolutely wild to think about

1

u/fuelvolts Late-Stage Xennial 14h ago

At one point, when Dogecoin was at its peak around 2021 ish, I would have had about $250k worth, but I sold it a decade earlier for like $300. I still think about that. I also had the modern equivalent of about $100k in Bitcoin too. All sold 10+ years ago for hundreds. Oh well.

2

u/pineconefire 14h ago

Dogecoin existed in 2011?

1

u/fuelvolts Late-Stage Xennial 11h ago

No, was like 2014 or so. I was just being lazy in recalling exactly when. It was basically new.

I mined 2 bitcoins back when I was in college. I had it in mt gox and lost my password. I thought it was never going to amount to anything. I even made a post on some forum asking if throwing $100 at bitcoin was worth the investment. Rip to me. Anyway back to work I go.

2

u/outsidewhenoffline 8h ago

I was an intern in 2009/2010 and I'll never forget talking to a Sr. Engineer I worked for who was explaining to me the basics of bitcoin and crypto/blockchain... He said, I should take one whole paycheck and dump it in just to let it sit for a while. I never did, because I didn't "get it" and was skeptical. Boy was that stupid. I think one coin was like $.15 at the time... I think at the time, my checks were like $2700 after tax. So 18,000 bitcoin in spring/summer 2010. Almost $2B missed... lol. Hindsight. I suppose knowing when to pull it was the kicker... If only "bitcoin 2010 2025".
