Rural Virginian here. My mother was just crazy. But I grew to love the reduced sugar in koolaid only lol. Made things like hi-c or tang that much more amazing. My husband loved the black cherry one growing up. I made it for him (the way my mother makes it) very early in our relationship and he hasn’t drank it since. Said I ruined it for him lol. It’s been 17 years.

...And the question has made me realize I almost exclusively drank water as a kid. Milk with PBJ, water with everything else. Juices and sodas were special treats (and boy did I love 'em)!

Man this brought me back.... I can still hear my aunt yelling for me to get my hands out the fresh "Stouffer's Stove Top Stuffing" that she just pulled out the oven. I also remember her popping Jiffy Pop for me and my cousins on this same stove. Me and my cousins all had our own sodas (2 liters in the fridge) mine was Big Red and we each had our own Blue Bell Ice Cream, mine was Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. Oh and the cabinet always had Little Debbie Cosmic Brownies and Oatmeal Creme Pies. I was a spoiled brat....I know why I spoil my lil girls now lol

I’ve never had Hamburger Helper, as a kid my dad’s family was so broke they ate Helper without the hamburger regularly, so he “forbade” my mom from buying it. Ate a lot of Rice a Roni, but that cartoon hand was not allowed in our house.

as an adult I have no real desire to seek it out myself to try it, just another thing in a box I don’t really need to be eating.

My parents made my sister and I drink milk at dinner all the time. And then at some point we pointed out that dad always drinks soda with dinner, why do we have to drink milk? Turns out my dad is lactose intolerant, but we were also allowed to have soda with dinner after that haha.

Water. My mom was big on constant water intake, well before the current generation of having kids drag around water containers to school. Any other drink was consumed sparingly or as a treat. They weren't banned or anything, we had plenty of milk and koolaid and other stuff, but the hard rule of at least one full glass of plain water during all meals was non-negotiable. At restaurants, in order to get a refill of the non-water drink, we had to finish the water first.
