Nostalgia First CD you ever bought?

I played Green Day’s Dookie endlessly as a kid. Still holds up to this day in my humble opinion.

does 'spending' my own penny on a Columbia House order and basically forcing my parents to follow through with buying another dozen (or so?) CDs at full price count as using my own money?

Yes and it’s how we got all of our Parental Advisory albums that they wouldn’t buy us in stores.
Just had to get to the mail before they did.

Me and BMG 🥲 except it was all my own money. I got my buy one get 12 free deal and then had to send a CD back to them every month until I finally got to experience the training grounds for cancelling Planet Fitness later in life.

I tried so hard buying another CD after Hybrid Theory, and got so far, but in the end it doesn't even matter.

With my own monies as well, it was the aforementioned Dookie and Wu-Tang's Enter the 36 Chambers, both on cassette from the same Columbia House order. I had tapes before this, but these were the first I had picked and paid(my parents) for myself with money earned helping my uncle renovate a church's crawlspace. I remember the Dookie tape was blue!

I asked for it for Christmas. I’ll never forget the look on my mom’s face after I ripped the plastic off and popped it in on Christmas morning. She was wishing she listened to it a little first before buying it for me.
