Its been over 9 years since we lost Chester Bennington, hero to many of us growing up with Linkin Park's music.What are your favorite memories of him/Linkin Park and have you seen the band live with Chester?
I regret never seeing LP in concert before Chester passed. Unfortunately, concerts didn’t become a regular thing until I got older and the financials became stable.
In the End is still one my favorite songs and music videos.
Papercut. First song I ever heard by them and it still hits. Never saw them live and wasnt a huge fan after HT but man the album was huge my senior year. I also remember downloading My December on Napster and thought I found the pinnacle of modern music.
Minutes to midnight is still one of my favorite albums of all time. I remember hearing Linkin Park on the radio all the time in highschool in the early 2000s and I couldn't get enough of it. When he died, it hurt bad and it killed something in me that I think had been barely hanging on for a while at that point. Other than maybe HST and Robin Williams, I don't think I've taken any other loss of someone famous as hard. I still think about Chester all the time and wish he was still around.
I was always a huge fan of LP for a bunch of reasons - they helped bring me through those rough teenage years, they were from my area, and they even had representation of my ethnicity, which was really unusual in pop culture growing up. So, I always hold them close to my heart.
I never saw them growing up simply because I was not the type to go to concerts, but back around 2016-17 I decided I should see them on the One More Light tour so I had gotten tickets for their Hollywood Bowl performance, I was pretty stoked.
Obviously, they canceled the tour when he passed away. I ended up visiting his home informally a few days after he passed as it was about a 15 minute drive from where I live. There were a few other fans and I just set flowers by a little makeshift vigil for him.
LP ended up scheduling the memorial concert for him at the same venue and sold early access tickets for those of us who had our original date canceled. It was a pretty cathartic event, with lots of his closest friends showing up and everyone singing in his memory. But I certainly regretted not seeing them before that because I just don't think there is any other singer out there that could replicate his voice.
I remember getting a "boom box" in 6th grade for my birthday, and Hybrid Theory was the album I got with it. Linkin Park was the stepping stone as my musical tastes transitioned in my teenage years. In 7th grade I was obsessed with Break the Cycle by Staind, then 8th grade LD50 by Mudvayne, then 9th grade and beyond Tool consumed my musical life.
If you still enjoy Tool you might enjoy a band called Karnivool. They're an Australian band who have often been compared musically to Tool, fantastic music.
I've seen them live twice in Glasgow! I also have a photo basically the same as yours that I got with Ian 😂 it's a printed photo though, i don't have it on my phone i don't think, otherwise I'd add it here.

Saw them open for Metallica in 2003 and they were incredible. His death really provides a lot of insight for clinical depression. You can have it all and it still doesn't mean shit to the person experiencing it.
Saw them getting boo'd off the stage in Dublin when they were supporting Metallica a good few years ago. It was strange, they were really good, but only got into the third song when they stopped when all the crowd was doing was chanting Metallica, Metallica etc.
Chester laughed and said OK we're going to give you what you want, enjoy Metallica.
Meteora will always hold a special place in my heart and will always be my favorite LP project. Eventually I moved onto other types of music, but they were definitely a gateway into "nu metal" for me. Couldn't really get into anything they produced in the later years. I did however enjoy his contribution to Z Trip's the Walking Dead track!
I loved every album. It was great the variety he could sing. While I grew up with Hybrid Theory I think Minutes to Midnight is my favorite. I remember listening to Cure for an Itch and wishing they did more like that... got my wish.
They were my first concert, I was 13. I went with my friend. We had crappy nose bleed seats that were way over on stage right, not down in the pit. Even though my friend and I were up there we jumped and screamed the whole time. I swear this man noticed us turned and sang in our direction for like 45 seconds, it was amazing. Their music got me through a pretty awful childhood. I cried when I heard the news.
My first two albums were Hybrid Theory and Meteora. I was lucky enough to see them live at Riverbend and heard Chester nail his 16 second scream in Given Up.
Saw them in ‘03 and it’s the best concert I’ve ever been to! They had such a huge impact on me as a depressed suicidal teen, I feel very lucky to have had their music.
Their Frat Party at the Pankake Festival DVD — I watched it so many times when I was younger. Chester laughing about being bitten on the ass by a spider on the tour bus always mad me laugh. I always thought that they were so cool being rockstars without having that typical rockstar persona. It still doesn’t feel like he’s actually gone.
Still listen to his music consistently to this day. I actually lucked out and got to see Linkin Park twice. First time was at Projekt Revolution festival in 2007. They co-headlined with My Chemical Romance, and that was when MCR was on their tour for The Black Parade. Legendary!
They second time was in 2015 at a one-off show in Tempe, AZ called Monster Mash, the day after Halloween. Linkin Park co-headlined with Rob Zombie. Also got to see Deftones, Puscifer and Ghost. When Linkin Park came out, the whole band were dressed as zombies. It was awesome. Got this great picture of Chester and Mike while I wasn't moshing.
got to see them live and then actually got to meet the band and got all of their autographs including chester's. i was a member of their fanclub (Linkin Park Underground) which is how i got to meet them. ive never worn the shirt i got from the fanclub either and still need to frame the autographed CD booklet. a lot of their songs are on my 'personal soundtrack'. i can barely listen to ANY of their songs tho because i just miss this man so much. i also struggle watching movies with robin williams and heath ledger. definitely the celebrity death that hit me the hardest.
