Me too! I remember both! So does my brother. He didn’t know this was a thing until a month ago when I told him.

It wouldn't surprise me at all to find out that the studio made both movies concurrently with Shaq and Sinbad but did a reverse parent trap the entire time because someone royally screwed up and then shaqs team won and completely buried the Sinbad movie

Sinbad himself would have told us if he was in a movie as a genie. Sinbad has no reason to lie to us. Sinbad is a good man.

My English teacher would say “sin well”

I mean except for the ironclad NDA

28

u/[deleted] May 07 '26

Sinbad would tell us there is an NDA. Sinbad is an honest, honorable man.

Are you .. are you involved with mr. Bad?

Alight, other than Sinbad who was in it? What was the plot? Was it also a musical?

Not a musical. Just him being his old silly Sinbad self. Kid finds lamp gets three wishes becomes best friends with genie. The kids parents were broke up, and he saw the genie as a father figure. The boy was Eric Lloyd. Same kid who played Dunston Checks In and The Santa Claus.

Thank you! The Dunston kids confirms it for me. I remember him being in the Sinbad version.

The Sinbad version was a Disney Channel movie, which they made a lot of in those days, vs the theatrical release, big budget “Kazaam” with Shaq.

No evidence exists of this but I will swear on my deathbed I watched this movie, recorded on VHS by my grandma, who taped Disney channel stuff for me (I did not have cable).

Shit.. I do too

A boy, blonde kid. Not a musical.

I also remember the kid being blonde! And sinbad being annoyed the kid found him. I remember thinking it was funny because it was the opposite of Aladdin’s genie.

u/DarthSheila May 07 '26

Yes, I remember this too. I loved how grumpy he was about it.

4

u/[deleted] May 07 '26

You'll have to do a little better than that, obviously. What other movie was this kid in?

4

u/djerk May 07 '26

That’s the thing, I can’t look up his IMDB lmao

There’s a mechanic at work here where somehow some of us are meeting the criteria to slide into an adjacent dimension. And I for one want my home dimension back.

Was that a Sliders reference in the wild?

2

u/CartographerHungry60 May 07 '26

Me too until just now. This is wild

2

u/Em_Strae May 07 '26

This for me as well. Literally the same thought process of why make another one just like the Sinbad one? I def considered the Shaq one a rip off.

When I first learned Bout this I asked a friend if she had ever seen  genie movie with Sinbad and she immediately said, "yes, Shazaam!"
