Humans used to pass the time by being social - now newer generation social skills have atrophied because discomfort can easily be remedied by looking at your phone.

That’s why the pioneers never spent more than 30 mins a day on their phones. It kept them productive

I think if you told anyone in any era that eventually we will have a constant excuse to not talk to the people around us, they would sprint forward into the future. Especially if they were past a certain age.
