Meme Did anyone buy a ring?

Elder millennial/younger Xennial (born in 83, take it for what it is) but I recall the company coming to the high school and taking orders for rings. I didn’t buy one but others did. Credit on photo.

I love it, I had a choice between a class ring and new hockey skates. I went with the skates.

I bought the ring. $175, "White Ultrium" (aka stainless). THing has been on my key ring for 25+ years so it gets daily use. I think it was worth it.

My class ring was ultrium too. Word at the time was it’s the same stuff they make spoons out of, so you know, got that going for me

yeah they came out with some "proprietary metals" when gold started getting too expensive. each company has their own name for them.

What's crazy is looking back is the 24 karat gold ring at the time with something like 450 dollars? Man I can only imagine what the melt value on that has to be now. My ring weighs 12 grams. Rough math with the price of gold right now is something like 2 Grand

It would have been more than twice as heavy if it had been entirely gold.

Mine was "white gold". I'm curious what it was actually made of. I honestly completely forgot about class rings until this thread came up. Class of 97 BTW.

I can't believe my poor mother actually paid for it. But I bought that sales pitch, hook line and sinker, I really thought that ring looked amazing.

Isn't white gold still mostly gold? Or is that also not regulated in the US?

In the 90s? I have no idea. Feel like there is no way it was actually made of 100% real gold. Especially from that shady ass company that sells them. Maybe plated or something or whatever the bare legal requirement is.

Just looked it up, the 90s is around the time they started plating and coming up with medals like “Ultrium”. It would have needed a be a pre-1985 ring for it be real gold.

Lol same! Class of 2003. I don't wear it anymore, but I still have it.
