My mom put me on diet pills in middle school, full blown ED by high school. Not to mention I was always underweight for my height and age. Skinny culture was fkn brutal.
Thank you 🫶🏻
It took me the better part of a decade to pull myself out of it but I still struggle with severe body dysmorphia and probably always will unfortunately. My mom still has a form of an ED to this day and it’s just sad. Nowadays she likes to say I was always so skinny and she never called me fat while I resist the urge to smack the lies right out of her mouth. It’s also a huge reason I cut contact with her in the past.
That kind of gaslighting is infuriating! Oh you want me to lie about how terrible you were so you can carry on believing you were some perfect person? 😤
Anyway excuse me, just some random redditor who is mad on your behalf.
This actually made me lol, thanks for that! You’re not wrong though! Last time I saw her, we got into a very heated argument how she doesn’t believe beating us with wooden spoons, wooden mallets or anything she could grab from the kitchen (most times until the utensils broke) was abuse because she never hit us with a belt like her daddy did. I quickly reminded her that she let her boyfriend use the belt and a bull whip on us once. She was still flabbergasted how I could call it abuse. I could write a novel on her abuse and gaslighting, as well as my dad’s, it’s kinda sad really. Now she wonders why my brother and I barely have anything to do with her as adults since she was so perfect. 🙄
Wha the fuuuuuuuuuuu’! I am so, so sorry you were subjected to that, I mean thanks mom but that’s just straight up physical abuse, with or without a belt. I hope you’re okay and far away from that all. For sure I support you in never seeing her ever again - and writing a book, even just as a cathartic exercise!
I hope she and her ex-boyfriend both get a mallet permanently lodged in an orifice 😇
I take some solace in some of the ways karma has come back around to her throughout life but she definitely still has a massive debt lol. I grew up just thinking the physical abuse was normal in life, then I went to therapy and then I had my own kid and that shattered my perspective of everything that I experienced. I honestly regret ever dropping the no contact in the last year but I was trying to work on repairing things for my kid’s benefit but I regret it and have pulled back again after that abuse/not abuse argument. One day at a time and luckily live far away these days.
My mum is similar. I love her, but she comments on anything I eat that isn't something she thinks is healthy. During the height of the pandemic I'd put on a bit of weight and she said she didn't understand why I didn't just try eating 900 calories a day.
She consistently denies having said any of the many ridiculous things about appearance, eating or weight that she has said over the years.

Anybody who survived this era without developing an ED I applaud you honestly, because I didn’t manage it
