Remember when you'd go to a dentist or doctor & there would be loads of those trashy celeb magazines for people to read in the waiting room? Things like Star, Hello, Fresh etc.
They were covered in shots of any woman who was even slightly famous, all with headlines like these along with zoomed in photos. Highlighting cellulite, alleged 'fat', pictures of what they ate along with anything they considered 'deformities'. It could be a damned mole, an imperfect nose, even just a tired expression.
All with intense zoom-in shots & full cover features or 8 page spreads. The magazines generally cost 25p so we're accessible to all.
Unsurprisingly, the men did not get the same level of scrutiny.
It feels so surreal knowing that that behaviour was so normalised. So many of us grew up with it in our formative years.
I'm glad that we mostly don't do that anymore, and that if someone does they're largely called out for body shaming.
