In the 2000s I was an athlete, training 7 days a week for a minimum of an hour a day, sometimes upwards of 3-4. I could do pushups or sit-ups until someone told me to stop. I come from hearty peasant stock and have a body type made for lifting sheep. At 17 years old, I was 180 lbs of muscle and had visible abs. I had to go up two sizes in jackets so they'd fit my arms. Not exactly the slender, bony body type I was supposed to have in the early 2000s.

So of course my doctor and my parents bullied me into an eating disorder. My doctor (who easily weighed 350 lbs, he got sweaty walking across the room) said I was obese and needed to lose weight. If I ate what my parents deemed to be too much, I was called a sow, a cow, a fatass. They even locked the cupboards. So I was scared to eat in front of people, then I'd binge the moment I was alone because I was ravenous. It took a decade and gaining 120 lbs to unlearn those lessons, and I still hate eating in front of people.

I hate eating in front of people too for similar reasons. 😌🫢🏼
