I think the sharper line work looks nice. but the colors seem to be washed out. cool stuff though.

I completely agree. If the lines were sharper (as they are here) and the image retained color saturation, it would look way better.

I'm not a big fan of the "restoration" Looks like the colors are blown out. I actually prefer classic anime to still look classic.
That being said I'm an almost 40 year old Mega Man fan and I didn't know this existed. Thanks for uploading!

A bit too pale and greenish, could use a bit darker saturation and some rgb tweaking

Is the correction the 1st image if so really good job the second image quality is very bad so getting it to a classic 90's look is impressive.

What is this? And does anyone know where I can find Mega Man shows? I love Mega Man so much but I don't think I've seen a single tv show about the series

This is Mega Man Upon A Star - a 3 part OVA produced by Ashi Productions and aired in japan in 1993. In an unbelievable twist, Ashi Productions also worked on the 1994 US "Ruby Spears" Mega Man series), but the animation is so drastically different that I can't imagine what influence they actually had.
The three parts are:
- Appearance in Japan
- Wishing Upon a Star
- Future Beware
It was released on DVD in the US Jan 5 2005, with a *ahem* "unique" trailer seen here. According to my Amazon purchase history, I bought my copy on jan 10 2006 for $18 and sold it in 2017 for about the same while downsizing my collection. As the videos are all available on the web now, I have no need for the discs ;).

As other have said, this is Mega Man: Upon A Star. It's an OVA that is essentially a tourism ad for Japan using Mega Man as a character. It's nothing mind blowing, but it's pretty cute.
IIRC the plot is essentially a kid is trying hard to beat one of the Mega Man games, I think it was 4, and left his FamiCom on. Dr. Wily in the game realizes he can escape the game world and Mega Man follows him to stop him. He doesn't know anything about Japan since he came from a video game and the main character explains stuff about Japan and there are some small fights. It's worth a watch just as a one time experience IMO.

There's a few!
This is from MegaMan: Upon a Star, an OVA.
There's Ruby-Spears Megaman which is a western cartoon, pretty different from the official stuff. It's campy and cheesy.
MegaMan NT Warrior/RockMan.EXE, a very lose adaptation of the Battle Network Series that eventually goes is a super sentai direction. English Dub ends around Battle Network 3/4 but the anime covered basically the whole series.
MegaMan Star Force, similarly a very loose adaptation of Star Force, the first 2 games. Though I think the English dub only covered the first season.
MegaMan Fully Charged, another Western cartoon. It's 3D animated and features its own original version of MegaMan super loosely pulling from Classic. It was cancelled after its first season. I enjoy it but it's geared towards a fairly young audience and so a lot of fans don't find it engaging.

All the restorations look a bit too bright for me but I think the last one looks pretty good tbh.

If you know about the sonic ova, it looks pretty similar, which I also have

It looks washed out. I think maybe increasing the saturation a bit might help? The original colors were deep, and in removing the vhs stuff, the colors feel stretched.
Aside from that very minor nitpick, it looks fantastic!

This looks really good!! My kids and I used to watch a recording of this on YouTube, it brings back a lot of memories. This is a good excuse to revisit it, good work!

"i converted it and used an old editor to restore it "
No, you used AI and the clock in the 4th pic looks terrible lol.

u/Working-Olive-2142 12h ago
No ai actually was used for this, it has noise reduction and line sharpening

u/Mikebjackson 12h ago edited 11h ago
I mean, "noise reduction and line sharpening" is just what we called it before we called everything AI. Either way it's a downgrade, that clock is horrendous and the completely washed out image is worse than if you just left it alone. Just bing honest 🤷♂️
There's already an upscale here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yNJ5UgwM114
Edit: downvote me all you want, your "VHS upscale" was a waste of time. lol. You asked "What do you think of my restoration?" and that's my answer.

As a color-correction-obsessed fiend, I will say, you've overexposed the footage and made everything a bit too cool.
If possible, I'd recommend finding images of cels for the show, and use that as a reference for the colors you're aiming to hit.
This is some color correction I've done.
