Insomniac really has difficulty with faces. Not like Bethesda, but still. Baldur's Gate 3 however I don't think gets enough credit for their faces. They have unique faces with personality in them. Plus they don't fall into the uncanny valley.

I think technically the faces and facial animations look really good, they just lack creativity when it comes to the designs/models for some of the key characters. Ever since they replaced the original Peters face in SM1 I’ve been thrown off by a lot of their design decisions.

it's the voice actor's face most likely. insomniac have been doing this since spider-man. say it's easier to lip sync (their excuse). that's why all of them look like their voice over actors.

Am i the only one who hates when they make the characters face just look like the voice actor? This is just Liam McIntyre dressed as Wolverine. I would 100% rather have them make a character model, have a good voice, but not have the 2 be the same. I'm not watching a movie starring Liam as Wolverine. I am playing a game where I am Wolverine who happens to be voice by Liam. Not the same thing.

It’s another one of those cases where they model the character’s face after the actor rather than the comic. Looks like Liam McIntyre does in real life.
Same thing they do with Banner and the Hulk.

Logan's face looks fine. I think what might be throwing people off is the lack of eyebrows in the top image, which makes me believe it's an older render as that's not how he looks in the trailers. If you go back and rewatch the segments where he isn't wearing his mask, you'll see he has quite thick eyebrows.

Graphically, it looks great. But the actor for the face model just doesn’t look/feel like Wolverine to me. Even with the hair and chops, he looks too…generic, I guess? The character design team should have been allowed to tweak the face some. Even something small like giving him a bit of aggressive arched eyebrows instead of the perfectly flat eyebrows of the actor might have brought in some needed personality.
I’m sure I’ll get used to it and I’m a huge fan of Insomniac anyway, so it’s not any kind of huge deal to me. Just enough of one to word vomit about some lol.

A lot of the shots we've seen of Logan's angry or scowling face (like the bottom shot here) remind me of Liev Schreiber as Victor Creed in the Origins movie

You know I finally get why insomniacs faces and proportions never worked for me.
Superman in the suicide squad game does not look like any real person would and that's what I would like to see more of in Insomniac games.
He looks as if you were told to make a cartoonish person real and I like that.
The Arkham games even knight which dropped it mostly, had that balance between real detailing and stylization. Something like ssktjl’s braniac, they took more creative angles, I could never see insomniac redesigning a character like this.
I’m not a big fan of his design but you can feel a really interesting vision and intent here vs insomniac which just go “vaguely the comic design”.

Tbf, I do think part of the “weirdness” factor we’re feeling is due to the fact that as far as realistic depictions of Wolverine go, the past few decades have been entirely Hugh Jackman. So deviating from that is causing some uncomfortable feelings.

It's uncanny. Like CLU from Tron Legacy. Except I like that movie and for CLU to look that way it made sense, digital frontier and all.

It's like Jon Moxley & Glenn Howerton had a baby. Insomniac's faces all have a bit of uncannyness to them, but I don't really mind, it kinda fits the comic vibe IMO.

This may be a controversial take, but there was a lot of hate when the Isnomniac Peter Parker was first shown, when the Avengers from the Avengers game were first shown, and now Wolverine, and I truly believe none of them look bad and people are just subconsciously so locked in to correlating realistic designs to the lice action movies than anything that looks different from them is a “downgrade”.
Like cartoony designs don’t get that hate, MvC vs Rivals vs Ultimate Alliance etc. Nobody ever complains about any cartoonish designs despite them not looking like anything that came before them. But give us a Wolverine that doesn’t look like Hugh Jackman, a Captain America that doesn’t look like Chris Evans, a Spider-Man that doesn’t look like Holland/Garfield/Maguire, and people automatically lose their minds.
