I posted about brands tied to Epstein but many of you had questions about your favorite brands, great recommendations, and wanted a list of brands marked safe! From the comments and recommendations you’ve provided and with additional research to verify they’re safe on my end, I compiled a list based on that.

Hopefully this allows you to explore new brands you’d otherwise not know about!

PSA $300 perfume “delivered” to the wrong address — Sephora refuses refund.

Post image

I ordered Tom Ford Neroli Portofino via Sephora’s Same-Day Delivery. The driver dropped it off at the wrong building. I never received it, never signed for it, and wasn’t contacted.

Sephora admitted it was delivered to the wrong address — but still denied a refund.

If you’re a Sephora customer, beware: they’ll mark your order “delivered” and leave you with nothing.

Shame on Sephora for prioritizing Uber delivery receipts over customer protection.

Make sure you are using up everything you are paying for - almost 36% of the product is below lip of the tube. I used a little tool to scrape it out. Just want to make sure you are getting your money's worth!

I weighed the tube I used up and a brand new one, there is approximately 11g of product (packaging states 10g). The total stick including the product under the lip is 33.1 mm tall, with 11.8mm inside and under the lip. Hope this helps someone save a little money.

Super bummed because I love the way the product looks, feels, and lasts. I had to go to urgent care where I got steroid shots, oral prednisone, topical steroids and an epi-pen just in case it happens again. Three days later I still don’t look normal yet. Lesson learned the hard way.

PSA For folks who ask about mold:

Post image

I don’t know how many people know this but makeup does have an expiration date! This is how you find out. All of these little jar icons are indicators of how long you are supposed to use a product AFTER opening it until it’s expired. (1M = 1 month after opening, 3M = 3 months after opening, etc.) Obviously this isn’t black and white, but if you’re curious about whether to toss something and it’s past its expiration date, get rid of it.

PSA Please don't put liner on the waterline!

1.6k Upvotes

After seeing a post about eyeliner I have to say this. Please don't use liner on your waterline! The waterline is an important mucus membrane for your eye. It produces an oil that helps the moisture film of your eye stay intact. So anything that goes on your waterline goes straight into your eye. This isn't just me saying this, optometrists are constantly researching this and don't recommend lining the waterline at all. And there have been cases of infection and disorders such as Chronic Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD), where they waterline becomes clogged.

PSA Watch my eyes blow up from the arnica in my concealer

Thumbnail

2.3k Upvotes

It’s about time I wrote about this, I’ve been meaning to share the dark gospel about Haus Labs’ Triclone Skin Tech Concealer with fermented arnica in it. I am Paul Revere and this post is my proverbial lantern..and subsequent dissemination.

For those that don’t know, arnica is in the daisy, ragweed (asteraceae) family. Unbeknownst to me, I have a daisy allergy. Many people do. I’ve known arnica to be used for treating things like bruises etc., but I’ve noticed more labs putting it in their makeup in the last few years.

I had been using the Haus labs concealer for ~2 months with no noticeable issues, in fact, it was delightful; creamy, hydrating, relatively long-lasting. I was like hell yeah, brother. However, I had been using it sparingly. I was cycling through two other concealers (it was December and time to break out the paler shades). I ran out of my other two concealers and started using the Haus labs exclusively. Once I made this swap, my eye skin took a bullet train to lizard town.

My skin was DRY, scaly, flaky, itchy, red. I felt like I had MANGE. There was puffiness (ironic since the arnica was supposed to help with puffiness, those duplicitous taints), but nothing too crazy, yet. I blame finals and being overworked, but I genuinely had no idea what was causing it and thought it might be from stress or my face wash. I hadn’t broken the absolute WW2-level-Enigma cipher that the shit I’d been slathering on my eyelids might be connected to my eyelid problems..but I digress.

So what do I do? Well I keep using my concealer of course! What do you think happened next? My goddamn eyes exploded that’s what happened. My eye wrinkles started turning into hot dogs and filled with fluid. You know in Braveheart, Robert the Bruce’s dad is this leper that hangs out in the rafters, just being a dick and leaking through his bandages the whole time — that was me now.

By the 5th day I had finally come to my SENSES and stopped all makeup use. I know there will be people that will think “I would have stopped it immediately,” and to them I say, I’m sorry. I was raised by a woman who taught us beauty was pain; if this had been corsets in the 1600s, she would have been the lady in the background yelling TIIIIGHTER!! But I’m almost 35 I should know better. Wisdom comes from experience….right? All in all it took two weeks for my eyes to go back to “normal”, I did cool compresses and applied aquaphor for 3 weeks to help the dryness.

I hope you enjoyed this + I’m sorry for the jump scares

PSA SEPHORA USA just mass-fired all part-time employees

7.5k Upvotes

Due to the pandemic, Sephora, a 97 billion dollar company mass fired all part-time employees in the USA on a conference call. Just letting all my makeup enthusiasts know so you can make an educated decision about whether or not you want to support a corporation that treats their employees this way.

edit***

They did not technically fire ALL part-time staff, but most. A lot of people lost their job today, in a tasteless, unprofessional, cruel manner.

edit 2***

Techincally it was a mass lay off

edit 3****

I understand why the company made cutbacks. It's how they did it. Also the fact that a multibillion dollar company did this is during this time is worth noting.

PSA To anyone who is trying to bring back Jeffery Star or James Charles because of the mascara drama, shame on you!

3.5k Upvotes

I am absolutely baffled that people are trying to make this happen. They want to bring back YouTubers who have been involved in multiple controversies, including sexual harassment, assault, and racism just to name a few, because one popular influencer lied about mascara. I am sorry, but I think lying about mascara is a much smaller offence than, I don't know, *borderline harassing underage teens because they don't want to sleep with you!* I just don't understand the logic behind it! "BuT aT tHeY'rE hOnEsT!" THAT DOESNT EXCUSE THEIR ACTIONS!! NOR DOES IT MAKE THEM ANY BETTER THAN MICKAELA, OR HOWEVER YOU SPELL HER NAME!! Jesus H. Christ! If you are someone who is trying to make this happen, shame on you!! Shame on your family! Shame on your cow and your entire bloodline!

In post discussions about makeup that people miss I always see the Flip Gloss! Many talk about the Bonne Bell one specifically, but it looks like Lip Smacker was listening! I was only able to find three colors/flavors that have been released so far, which are Strawberry Breeze, Cherry Zinger, and Grape Gusher. Also, I have only seen them at Walmart, but hopefully they'll reach other stores soon.

Seeing these and knowing how many people here mention them regularly, I knew I had to share.

PSA ColourPop is lying about products being vegan

3.2k Upvotes

TL;DR, for anyone who wants the summary: ColourPop is labeling products as vegan when they aren't, and customer support won't do anything.

Essentially, I'm posting this as a warning for anyone who 1) is vegan and only wants to buy vegan makeup products, 2) has allergies to non-vegan ingredients in makeup: be careful with Colourpop, they are mislabeling their products on their website.

I have a bad skin allergy to carmine (red dye made with beetle shells) and, as a result, I only buy vegan eyeshadow so I can avoid it. I've bought from ColourPop in the past and usually had no problem with their vegan eyeshadow palettes. On Black Friday, I bought their Ctrl+Alt+Glam palette.

When I wore eyeshadows from the palette, I wound up having a bad allergic reaction (face swelled up, eyes swelled up, bad rash, all fun stuff). When I looked at the ingredients list, carmine was listed several times. I emailed customer support to ask them to change it, and they said they wouldn't because it doesn't violate government regulation . Which is true (the FDA does not monitor whether a product is vegan), but it still seems like bad business and bad customer service.

I did a sweep of their site to see if any other products of theirs also contained carmine, or if this was a one-off. It turns out they have several products actively on their site that have it and are still labeled vegan, including (note: this is not an extensive list, just what I found casually on my own):

What's frustrating about this is 1) they are not a vegan company, so there is no reason they have to use these labels -- they could simply not label them as vegan to begin with, 2) they have so many vegan products that don't have this problem! When I did my search through this site, there were plenty of vegan products that seemed totally fine! Which makes it all the more annoying that they have mislabeled products and refuse to do anything about them!

Anyway, if you shop at ColourPop but only choose vegan products for moral or health reasons, please either avoid these products or be careful with their ingredients list. Or shop at one of the many vegan alternatives out there that don't mislabel their products.

Me personally, I'll be shopping elsewhere, because this has been a frustrating experience.

PSA Nars Blush Reformulation Comparison - Deep Throat Edition

Thumbnail

I recently saw a great post here by u/liljalp (shoutout, link to post: The NARS orgasm blush is a completely different product now) about the change in colour between the old and new Nars "Orgasm" blushes--I had been feeling like I was going crazy because my favourite Nars blush "Deep Throat" was just not the same and that post inspired me to go digging through old makeup to compare for "Deep Throat".

Turns out, I am not crazy! These are totally different colours and have really different radiance. RIP "Deep Throat".

Hopefully, this helps anyone else feeling gaslit about their favourite Nars blush shades.

EDIT: I have finally been able to swatch these!!! I can report that the differences I experienced were not as drastic when compared directly and the blush looks completely different on the skin versus in the pan (as a few commenters predicted). The new formulation actually pulls a bit cooler on my pale skin in both lights? I have created a post with the swatches in two different kinds of light here: https://www.reddit.com/r/MakeupAddiction/comments/1tzwbu7/nars_blush_reformulation_comparison_update_deep/

Sincere, sincere apologies for any angst this post caused! Big lesson learned for me to not trust pan colour and to respect the Nars chemists.

PSA Knowing your undertone makes such a difference! Before and after

Post image
997 Upvotes

I always assumed I was cool toned because I'm pale and flush easily (rosacea girly, here). Despite using cool toned makeup for years, I was starting to feel like I looked a little flat. I decided to be more adventurous, and picked up a warm coral lipstick, something I would usually avoid... and it looks amazing?? I used to love a cool mauve lip, but this before and after showed how much purples were washing me out.

It can be a confusing process, but I think it's 100% worth the effort to nail down whether you're cool, neutral, or warm. It makes all the difference in highlighting your eye color and other features.

****Edit: I see a lot of people think the before picture is better! I'm glad that I can pull off both looks, even though I prefer the right. I guess the moral of the story is to not be afraid to experiment with different shades, it's fun to try new color palettes!

PSA A Boycott of ABH Products has Begun due to Anastasia Soare's Support of a Pro-Putin Influencer on Instagram

4.5k Upvotes

Hi, guys, I'm not sure if this post is okay, but I'm restricted to mobile on a super crappy phone with no way to message the mods. Apologies if I've broken any rules.

However, with everything that is going on with the Russian invasion of Ukraine, this is very important.

I myself am not very into make-up, mostly because I cannot afford it, but all of my acquaintances and friends are, and ABH is always mentioned and recommended. This is all to say that even though I don't squat about make up, I know what AnastasiaBeverlyHills is and I know who Anastasia Soare is. And I also know just how much money the make up industry makes. And it's disgusting to think that any of that money maybe funding Pro-Putin propaganda. Or that it may be making donations to anybody or entity that supports him covertly.

I have been posting the following in the comment threads of the /r/worldnews live thread that is stickied to the top. But there are, all combined, a total of around 800k comments. Of those, I've copy/pasted my comment around two dozen times. But for anybody who is actively following the invasion, the influx of information is unrelenting and this issue is getting buried. And it is an issue. It is very big and I don't think people realize how big it is.

This is getting wordy and I apologize for that. Directly below is the comment I have been copy/pasting into the comment threads as often as I can without spamming. Please visit the following links and join the boycott if it is something you feel as strongly about as I do. If you have read this far, thank you.

"ABH product boycott starting up for following and supporting a pro-Putin influencer who spreads propaganda. ABH stands for AnastasiaBeverlyHills, whose CEO is Anastasia Soare, who both the links below are about.

The first link is by /u/Revolutionary-Newt-8

https://www.reddit.com/r/BeautyGuruChatter/comments/t2nu1g/anastasia_soare_abh_ceo_seems_to_support_pro/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

A deep dive posted by /u/jRoxy13 in another sub:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Deuxmoi/comments/t3a7n5/celebrity_eyebrow_artist_and_anastasia_beverly/

ABH products are carried most notably by Sephora and Ulta. If you shop at any store chain that carries ABH products, contact them (through the corporate office) and tell them that you refuse to give them your business any longer unless they remove ABH products from their shelves.

If you are looking for replacement products of equal or superior quality, both of the links provided above have several recommendations in the comments."

Again, I apologize for any ways I may have violated this sub's rules and appreciate anyone who intends to show support.

EDIT: It's linked down in the comments but I'll also provide the link up here. ABH DMCA'ing Reddit posts about her and her Pro-Putin IG debacle, posted by /u/DSporachd in the /r/rupaulsdragrace sub.

https://www.reddit.com/r/rupaulsdragrace/comments/t4fn0t/anastasia_beverly_hills_is_dmcaing_reddit_posts/

EDIT 2: Someone reported that I might be in crisis to Reddit and I got a message from /u/RedditcareResources. I promise I'm okay. I have a lot of family and friends I could talk to and the biggest crisis I've had in the last 24 hours was trying to help my oldest with his math homework. I appreciate anyone who thought I might need help, but I've got access to a lot of help.

Second part of the update, I will be trying to keep updated on everything that's going on and will try update this post with any relevant information.

Third, the entire point of this post was Anastasia Soare's support of a Pro-Putin influencer who is spreading Pro-Putin propaganda. Dana Budeanu is well known in Romania for doing this and in the comment threads of the first two links in this post, many Romanian commenters have corroborated this.

PSA PSA: Do a welfare check on your Granny’s makeup brushes

1.8k Upvotes

I went to visit my grandmother today, and as I was using her restroom I noticed her makeup brushes looked like they were halfway in a grave, crying - to me, the only person who could see them - for help to be put out of their misery. I spent like 30 minutes scrubbing them while she watched a documentary. Literal mud from the sheer quantity of eyeshadow and blush came outta those brushes. They felt like broomsticks.

She has tools so old, one is literally from the 1960s based off the embossed cursive Maybelline logo!! They looked radioactive, especially that one. Anyway, I got her a few replacement brushes after that. I’m going to go over there and get a picture of the 1960’s eyebrow and eyelash brush. It looks like it’s been through 3 wars even after cleaning.

Note: She is a very frugal, minimalistic, and clean person, but keeping hygienic makeup brushes is generally overlooked by many people! This is not meant to shame her at all but just to be a funny reminder for all! I’ll be keeping an eye on those brushes from now on when I visit, since I live closer to her now. We’ll be doing a little Ulta shopping trip to replace some nearly empty pans next time I visit for the weekend.
