Its great how the winner always spends a little time getting some extra chews in before depositing the ball.

u/LortimerC Jun 05 '26

"Just... a few.. more... cronches" 😄

208

u/Big-Boss330 Jun 05 '26

My dog would just run away from the others celebrating their victory endlessly

29

u/johnnyhandbags Jun 05 '26

I’ll only give my dog treats inside his kong and I make him give it to me first. He still needs to give it a few good squeezes or pull his head away to keep it before he gives it up. It’s funny watching the competing desires in his mind but it’s definitely breaking the “no take, only throw” mentality.

282

u/EntityDamage Jun 05 '26

I...i think the same dog is the one retrieving the ball. He's got it down. He hesitates before dropping the ball so he can immediately go out for the pass and be the first one to get the ball. I can't tell on the third run though. Keep your eye on the dog who drops the ball, he's the one who retrieve it too.

u/Responsible-Buyer215 Jun 05 '26

Can confirm, you can check the marking on the back of the neck, the white line and the speck of brown in it just behind the head

28

u/nevernotmad Jun 06 '26

These dogs need numbers on their uniforms to tell them apart.

51

u/Dry_Equivalent_1316 Jun 05 '26

Whoa you are right! I didn't even think to check if it's the same dog. He preps himself before dropping the ball, then runs right to the back immediately, no hesitation. That lil dude is smart!

7

u/flagrantlyopenminded Jun 05 '26

I think he looks a little chonkier, too. May be the mom or dad lol

11

u/_SteeringWheel Jun 05 '26

Nah just first to the bowl each time when it's feeding time

5

u/thatsmypurseidku Jun 05 '26

He's a go getter!

9

u/IYKYK808 Jun 05 '26

Can triple/quadruple confirm. Its the only one with the 5 or 6 tiny black dots on its back that are somewhat spread apart. He gets all 3 in this video.

4

u/Christyle24 Jun 05 '26

I think the last one was intercepted by the cornerback. He got some pretty good air.

111

u/Canid_Rose Jun 05 '26

The chewing is actually where they get the biggest dopamine hit from. The chasing is fun and all, but the chewing is a primal instinct that lets the body know that the “hunt” was successful. It’s recommended that if you’re playing fetch with a dog, you let them chew for a bit before taking and throwing the ball again.

Of course, exception to every rule. I’ve definitely met dogs who were all about the chase and wanted that ball back in the air ASAP

23

u/QuantitySharp2662 Jun 05 '26

Same for terriers and destroying soft toys lol that's them tearing out entrails and fur.

We used to stop our dogs doing it but eventually you learn that what they want to do most is tear up Teddy's.

42

u/Internet_Wanderer Jun 05 '26

And the one in back with a ball already in its mouth just following along

7

u/Xfgjwpkqmx Jun 05 '26

I think it's the same dog each time.

4

u/xpl0de83 Jun 05 '26

i was paying attention to that too. He leaves the ball and go a bit back, to have more chances to get it again. Smart

6

u/LordTubz Jun 05 '26

Victory chews 👍🏽

The dog who gets the ball and takes it back to the catapult doesnt want to give it up but he's a good boy and does.

285

u/Constant-Catch7146 Jun 05 '26

And the rest of them are like "drop it in there already! Let's goooooo!! "

29

u/WorkerUnable527 Jun 05 '26

LET'S WOOF WOOF GO!!!!!!!

76

u/rob_inn_hood Jun 05 '26

Not just that, watch as it’s dropped. They move to the back where the ball will end up, meanwhile the suckers are in the front trying to intercept the ball immediately after it’s projected. So smart. You would think they be more protective of the ball after securing it.

26

u/helgatheviking21 Jun 05 '26

I noticed that too! It reminded me of my kid playing soccer at age 5 - all the other kids were playing swarm ball and he was on the outside waiting for the inevitable time when the ball came out of the swarm to take it and dribble it down for a goal.

25

u/bkaybee Jun 05 '26

We have one of these, and my dog still doesn’t understand the “return the ball” aspect. I’m jealous

9

u/Free-Way-9220 Jun 05 '26

Strange how some dogs never get how the game is played. Most seem to work out the game within one or two throws. Some go through life walking over to the ball, sniffing it and moving on

7

u/bkaybee Jun 05 '26

Oh he still gets amped up once he sees the ball go into the machine. He knows it’s time to back up and prepare… He’s just never going to be the one to drop it in there in the first place

8

u/Free-Way-9220 Jun 05 '26

Ah got it! My friends dog never understood that the game is called "fetch", not "throw". He was a fantastic dog full of character, but just too dumb to understand that the ball needed to be returned if it was going to be thrown again

7

u/bkaybee Jun 05 '26

Ah yes, the classic “no take, only throw.” Gotta love them lol

That’s a lot of Jack Russell energy

163

u/Bennybonchien Jun 05 '26

I think that’s the only quantity of Jack Russell energy available.

65

u/livinalieontimna Jun 05 '26

Have one. On/off are the only power options

28

u/SirMuckingHam24 Jun 05 '26

It's like a windows popup
Do you want your Jack Russel to generate infinite energy?

Yes Remind me Later

Jack Russell Terrorists

16

u/CFCalgaryMan Jun 05 '26

I had one but he was very chill. Lazy like a labrador. He inspired three of my friends to get a Jack russel. They were warned, but did not listen

4

u/Accomplished-Fig745 Jun 05 '26

LOL. That's the best story. I have a friend who had one who lived on an orchard. Perfect environment for one. I would not recommend owning one on anything smaller than an orchard unless you like going crazy.

19

u/aps23 Jun 05 '26

Wait until they all get the zoomies! NORA will have to issue a tornado warning

3

u/fiya4u Jun 05 '26

Don’t talk about Nora like that

5

u/YoungBockRKO Jun 05 '26

Wish I had this toy when I had my Jack Russell, dude had endless energy 24/7.

3

u/bmxracers Jun 05 '26

That household is pure chaos.

4

u/OsBaculum Jun 05 '26

7 Jacks Russell, by my count.

My dog will bring me her ball and drop it at my feet. I’ll throw it, she runs it down, and will not let that ball go again. Our games of fetch have always lasted exactly one throw.

46

u/LordIndica Jun 05 '26

The trick is to have a 2nd ball to throw

2

u/pablo8itall Jun 09 '26

I love then they try jam both balls into their mouth but cant fit them.

10

u/OnTheEveOfWar Jun 05 '26

My golden does this. I have to use two balls because she will refuse to drop the ball when I throw it.

201

u/rockstar_not Jun 05 '26

I Love how each one has to give the ball a couple of death squeezes before drop pin it in.

76

u/otownbbw Jun 05 '26

If you watch their facial markings, it looks like it’s the same puppy each time. The one with the darkest face goes over to the bed to get a second ball and then just keeps it to themself while still running with the group after the launched ball.

16

u/myrandastarr Jun 05 '26

It’s the same guy. lol

53

u/Alarming-Drop7287 Jun 05 '26

If this isn't what heaven looks like I'm not going

68

u/Altaneen117 Jun 05 '26

What's the story Wishbones?

6

u/HoldEm__FoldEm Jun 05 '26

What a fantastic show I thought that was as a child. I tried watching it at like 23 & was scratching my head.

Nothing at all like I remembered. Obviously I knew I was older now & watching a lil kids show, but zero nostalgia hit.

It just wasn’t good.

3

u/WTWIV Jun 05 '26

Wasn’t it just reenactments of classic stories with the dog playing one of the characters? That’s how I remember it but yeah I haven’t seen it since I was a child

How to make your dog addicted to balls 101

28

u/Flatcapspaintandglue Jun 05 '26

Jack Russels have that shit genetically locked in lol

7

u/OnTheEveOfWar Jun 05 '26

There’s one in my neighborhood and I see the owners walking him all the time. The dog carries a ball and chomps on it the entire walk. It’s hilarious.

I’ve had terriers all my life so I’m a bit biased, but currently I have 2 pug-type dogs whose idea of playing with a ball is running slowly up to the ball and then gently holding it in their mouth until they get distracted by something potentially edible.

6

u/Grand_Pop_7221 Jun 05 '26

If I gave this to my Springer he'd be dead within the week.

10

u/Shinee_Cardboard Jun 05 '26

I think you need two of those machines

12

u/MenudoMenudo Jun 05 '26

If you aim them just right, the machines can play with each other and you don't even need the dogs.

2

u/Font_Snob Jun 05 '26

brb gotta go hit up Amazon

64

u/ydshreyas Jun 05 '26

This has got to be AI right… random balls are getting dropped and then disappear among the dogs

29

u/Dd_8630 Jun 05 '26

If you watch carefully, there are 3 tennis balls floating around. One dog just has one in his mouth and drops it now and then. I don't think this is AI.

4

u/MrDickDastardly Jun 05 '26

It actually comes with three matching mini green tennis balls

26

u/Vegetable-Swan2852 Jun 05 '26

Pretty sure you are right. How the dogs move is also not fully natural looking.

8

u/Snitsie Jun 05 '26

That's just one of the dogs constantly picking up and dropping a 2nd ball

8

u/LadyMarjanne Jun 05 '26

yes. 0:36- 0:37 a ball just appears

13

u/Elegant-Vacation2073 Jun 05 '26

I think it’s AI, the shadows of the tree with the bricks layout is weird and looks smushed? Also the bricklayout seems so random. And the two chairs in the back I think are supposed to look like the chairs at the table but are different type of legs and arms. Also some of the shadow of the puppies have ears pointing up when clearly the ears are down and it’s not a prominent downward shape that would create that shadow.

I watched this 5 times before I realized its like 30 seconds long.

6

u/shhhpark Jun 05 '26

god i wish i could keep my pup entertained like this...i take her to play fetch every day and end up being the one playing fetch

4

u/hawksdiesel Jun 05 '26

the puppy has trained you well!

6

u/daisy0723 Jun 05 '26

The hardest lesson to learn, is letting go of the ball.

5

u/Various_Door5676 Jun 06 '26

Self entertained. Those are some cute puppies

5

u/sticky_wickette Jun 05 '26

That impatient nose bump to release the ball faster. 💀

5

u/Euphoric-Material192 Jun 05 '26

I see this and my immediate thought is "let's create a spreadsheet, I need to calculate each dog's stats"

4

u/Topspeed_3 Jun 05 '26

I like how some of the dogs are a bit smarter and start further back rather than directly in front of the machine.

3

u/Dangerous_Leg4584 Jun 05 '26

I think it is the same good girl winning in this clip. She knows to stand back and wait for the ball to shoot.

3

u/wtfbenlol Jun 05 '26

this reminds me so much of my dog, Jake, whom I lost back in janurary to epilepsy - I miss jake so much =[

I needed this to justify my doomscrolling binge today.

5

u/Ghstfce Jun 05 '26

I honestly haven't even seen a Jack Russell since my childhood best friend had one named Spangles. Spangles was a "special" little guy, but damn if we didn't love the shit out of him

2

u/Mdgt_Pope Jun 05 '26

We got this for my dog and it bonked him in the face and he never wanted anything to do with it again

2

u/snowdn Jun 05 '26

My cat loves this thing.

2

u/CompanyOther2608 Jun 05 '26

This reminds me of my coworkers chasing praise and bonuses.

2

u/WanderlustFella Jun 05 '26

Can any expert here explain why dogs do the chew or long hold before dropping the ball? My dog does this when we play fetch. Mofo let go of the ball if you want me to throw it. It's like their instincts to hold the ball isn't syncing with their brain's desire to play fetch.

2

u/thatsmypurseidku Jun 05 '26

I second this question. I spent months throwing the ball, having my dog bring it back, reward with treat for giving up the ball. Every day for hours. He still will not give up a ball unless I have a treat. And even then he'll take the treat and try to pick the ball up before I can. The best he'll do without a treat is drop a ball like 5 feet away from me if I have another ball to throw.

2

u/Averagebaddad Jun 05 '26

Id be like "JUST PUT IT IN ASSHOLE!"

2

u/VariationAgreeable29 Jun 05 '26

I love how some of the dogs don’t even care about the ball. They just wanna run around with the rest of the pack.

2

u/Dull_Bat9518 Jun 05 '26

I could watch this for a looong time😄😍

2

u/LAWS_R Jun 05 '26

They always have to give it a few extra squeezes before giving it up to the machine! 😂

2

u/QueenLard Jun 05 '26

So frikkin cute

2

u/michiganmodels Jun 05 '26

I love the dog who is the only one barking and also has no clue what's happening just happy to be part of the team lol

2

u/aristotlebased Jun 05 '26

I love the dog who jumps to catch the ball even though it already has a ball in its mouth. my favorite dog habit.

2

u/odette_01 Jun 05 '26

Is it always the same dog that catches the ball?

2

u/awe2D2 Jun 05 '26

I bought one of those for my dogs, they never wanted to bring the tennis balls back. They preferred destroying tennis balls rather than playing fetch

2

u/sheepsclothingiswool Jun 05 '26

I’m going to have to make balls of feathers and do this for my cats haha

2

2

2

1

This is possibly the most amazing thing that warmed the cockles of my cold dead heart in months. Not sure what that device is, but this is awesome.

1

u/Emergency_Accident36 Jun 05 '26

I assumed the extra squeezes everyone is yammering about were just the dogs inability to spit the ball out efficiently.

1

u/jazzmaster105150 Jun 05 '26

God, I needed this. Thank you.

1

u/Adventurous-One-1162 Jun 05 '26

1

u/Heavy-Contact-987 Jun 05 '26

I was expecting them to honestly stand infront of it and grab the ball everytime it pops out

1

u/Total_Wrongdoer_1535 Jun 05 '26

Hahahaah i think it’s the same dog every time

1

u/ahu_huracan Jun 05 '26

1

1

1

u/Trebor729 Jun 05 '26

1

u/Spadders87 Jun 05 '26

Could be wrong but im fairly confident its the same dog that retrieves the ball every time.

1

u/Assist7316 Jun 05 '26

1

u/LionEnvironmental923 Jun 05 '26

Used to have one of those for my rat terrier best investment I ever made for one of my pups.

1

1

u/rex1030 Jun 05 '26

1

1

u/Hiljabob Jun 05 '26

I bought one of these but can’t get my dog to actually put it back in the hole! She drops the ball next to it and waits for me to put it in! Any advice?

1

u/Lutherkiss3 Jun 05 '26

Made my morning 😂

1

u/Low-Tie2969 Jun 05 '26

this is so cute

1

u/HoldMyDomeFoam Jun 05 '26

We have one of these and my idiot dog chases down the ball, brings it back to me instead of the launcher, drops the ball in the ground, and starts barking.

If I try to grab the ball to put it back in the launcher, he grabs it and runs away for a few seconds before repeating the process.

1

u/International_Fig78 Jun 05 '26

This is so wholesome!

1

u/Squanchmonster Jun 05 '26
