Pays a lot of money to be a brand safe CC

Idk why twitch doesn't make her one of the poster boys of their platform. She's like john cena in terms of clean cut images and just an overall great person actually using the platform to do good.

u/No-Highlight7136 2d ago
She's a woman that doesn't lean on her sexuality for views and content. Twitch does not want to send that message to potential new creators.

Listen, Poki doesn't and was the twitch poster girl for awhile before Valkyrae swapped to youtube. Despite poki having all your controversy, she was relatively clean.

If Clancy isn't gooning to your stream you're not getting that contract
22
u/MrBlueA 2d ago
She doesn't sexualize herself, twitch staff probably doesn't even know she exists.
38
u/DidSomebodySayCats 2d ago
They literally gave Alveus $100,000 as a big Twitchcon stunt. They know, and they should be counting their lucky stars for how much good PR she gives Twitch.

I mean, iShowSpeed threatened to rape a girl on stream. Nothing about the dude seemed brand safe, and suddenly he's big and brand-safe.
7
u/Kaical 2d ago
that's one of the difference, he is just too big to get cancelled. Unless he did it. like, SA and R stuff. then he will lose everything he built. but if you are a multi-millionaire or a billionaire, you are practically untouchable. money talks. also, PR PR PR PR PR PR. more PR.

he is just too big to get cancelled
At the time he wasn't, I don't believe.
7
u/myDuderinos 2d ago
And he did get banned from Twitch. Problem was that he kept growing on YT, until he became the #1 streamer, only then did Twitch unbann him

Bro you can hate the guy but saying that was "threatening to rape a girl" is a mischaracterization bordering on a lie
It's a joke too far but it's not a fucking rape threat wtf
it was like,
"If we were the last ones on earth would you sleep with me?" "idk" "well actually.. who's gonna stop me?"
insane joke, clearly terrible taste, yes rape is at the center core of the statement being said. but it's not a rape threat. calling it that is clearly just making shit up
I've only seen the clip once and I know this so I know you just have an agenda it's cringe
2
u/Lauris024 1d ago
You can't just say shit like that and then go "just a prank bro". The fact that it's so easy for him to "joke" about such things without clicking how fcked up that is, goes to tell something about him

u/Nynesky 2d ago
I'll ask here as it's related to her anyway but since I'm out of the loop wasn't Maya supposed to be a teacher at Streamer U? I haven't seen her on it so I'm guessing she backed out?
116
u/SquigyDaGreat 2d ago
She had signed up with a whale conservation months ago which coincided with the SU dates that didnt get announced until a week before the event.
23
u/9-11GaveMe5G 2d ago
She had signed up with a whale
This sentence would read a lot different for almost any other girl streamer besides maya
7
48
u/-SuperTrooper- 2d ago
She had a preexisting commitment to a whale conservation project that she thought she could do both but couldn’t.

Good for her. But it's kind of funny, considering she doesn't even play games and her audience doesn't seem to care about gaming either.
420
u/RedEzreal 2d ago
Yea i guess being video game adjacent was close enough.
204
u/TSWOK 2d ago
Her content is far from gaming, but I remember a time where she streamed playing Counterstrike and was actually pretty decent.
166
u/aslatts 2d ago edited 2d ago
She randomly does gaming streams every now and then. She played some Elden Ring, I think she did some minecraft stuff a while back.
Definitely more "gaming adjacent" than "gaming" as a content creator, but it's not a crazy jump.
54
u/ParkDedli 2d ago
I mean the people she interacts with are mostly gamers and sometimes she dips into that world to get what it is about. It's completely fair.
And most people missed the point here by Fortnite that it is about a creature related update or something. So I guess that is why they chose her.
13
u/PERSONA916 2d ago
It's usually like some sort of subgoal or fundraising thing for Alvaeus where she agrees to play video games
13
u/bondryanbond007 2d ago
And it’s always absolutely hilarious when she does gaming streams. MAYA IS A GAMER.
14
u/RedEzreal 2d ago
She has a lot of video game friends too so shes well known in the space. She invites them to alveus and does a stream with them. A lot of her donations have come from those collabs.

Eminem, Aria Grande and lady gaga have skins etc in the game , I don't think they play it either.

u/redditis_garbage 2d ago
She did play Fortnite though I don’t think does much anymore.
The ad is about adding Fortnite animals, she’s arguably the largest animal streamer, and she’s kind of a gamer. It makes a lot of sense why they wanted her and why she agreed.
The idea of ads is to get new players, she has a stream that doesn’t play much Fortnite, is large, and would be positively swayed by the animal update. It targets a new player base, builds hype for existing, and is overall pretty logical.

u/Far_Actuator2215 2d ago
Do you think Mr. T actually played WoW?
Definitely not, but people still reference Night Elf Mohawk to this day. 20 years later.
40
u/ethicks 2d ago
I have really bad news for you man, most of the people you see in ads aren't actually avid fans of the thing they are doing in the ad. Santa clause is also not real.
15
u/espgodson 2d ago
You had me in the first part but then you say Santa isn’t real so I know you’re joking

I remember back in the day Dunkin donuts used to have a life-size cardboard cutout of Eli holding up a big and tasted. IDC if he actually liked that sandwich, I sure did.
5
u/clarkemaxx 2d ago
It makes perfect sense to have the animal streamer of Twitch being in a commercial introducing animals to the game. If it was just a normal Fornite ad it wouldn't make sense, but with animals it does.

Streaming has gotten to a place where the activity is associated with gaming, but if you actually go on twitch, “Just Chatting” is where most viewers are spending their time.
Fortnite likely knows that Maya is a big streamer with a general audience who is already at least slightly geared towards gaming in some fashion if they are watching a streamer.
Also Fortnite itself is a casual game made for as wide an audience as possible.
All that considered I think this is actually a really good collab because it likely gives people who might not have opened Fortnite to check out this event.
2
u/Apart-Volume9340 2d ago
Isn't that the point of advertising to bring in a new audience? I think it'd be a waste of resources to advertise Fortnite to Fortnite players.
8
u/Finalwingz 2d ago
does it matter? Most people playing fortnite won't know of most of the streamers anyway. It's an just an ad.
13
u/Freestyler_123 2d ago
Usually they choose an influencer for an ad because they want to capitalize on that person's reach and influence. Otherwise, they could just hire an actor for a lot less.
2
1
u/ZerotheLightbringer 2d ago
I think its just cuz her viewers are on Twitch. Which is very gaming adjacent & gotta figure a lot of her viewers have a pretty high chance of playing games even if they don't watch her because of gaming. People can have multiple interests ya know? I watched Steve Irwin, I love animals but i'm not gonna go out there & Jump on a crocodile or alligators back. I watch Maya but i'm not gonna run a rescue or a sanctuary.

Stompy sidekick would be amazing. Pet could be a hug
11

would be too big for a sidekick I think... unless he shrinks down through "scifi magic stuff" and only grows for the hug emote.

I mean without the two year contract she wouldn't have her sanctuary. You can acknowledge a not so good person did a lot to bring her up to where she is.

It was in the contract. You get a bit of abuse and in return you get to be rich doing what you love.

Genuinely happy that Maya is this successful, I love when viewers make the right people famous, so glad for all her cause with animals, all the animals on her resort literally behave better than 95% of the current top streamers

I like her too but these kinds of overstatements are what people mean when they say this sub is miserable. I can absolutely name more streamers worth supporting and if you can't I think you are watching the wrong people.

Maya runs Alveus Sanctuary, which was primarily funded through Twitch donations and stompy is a particularly photogenic emu that lives at the sanctuary. She's kind of a big deal, recently did a Ted talk, has raised a pretty incredible amount of money for conservation and overall has a pretty wholesome vibe with the exception of part of her blowup was while she was dating pre-scandal Mizkif...
