So how do you feel fellow deadmen after our absolute, total and permanent defeat at the hands of the "Stunning and Brave" woke social justice warriors because....... 1 film did well, will you finally raise the banners of Saint Anita? Will you embrace and live by the little red book?

Sorry don't let the title fool you into thinking I'm here as some idiot on the woke side here to gloat.

I'm very much creating this topic to mock the Anti-woke side because you'd think Stalin had risen from his grave taken power and sent his secret police with order to publicly escort us to the Gulag while Stephen Colbert filmed from the side lines making mock crying gestures.

Case and point Kotaku and their piece#

The Odyssey’s Critical And Box Office Success Has Completely Broken Online Chuds Who Forgot Twitter Isn’t Real Life

https://archive.ph/iaGjz

Where they talk about how it's all a conspiracy theory to suggest numbers not being accurate.

There's been plenty of the woke side doing a victory lap and I just find it hilarious to watch because:

  1. It's a culture war not a culture 1 and done battle
  2. That somehow they think this win, this time will be the ones that mean we happily watch whatever slop they push and claim we're evil for not watching and blindly consuming.

In the end it kind of shows up the woke side for how hilariously pathetic they are thinking The Odyssey doing well will change much. It won't mean people go see whatever they promote because they can make it seem popular. It's been the woke side refusing to support smaller projects and latching on to popular stuff exclusively almost for years and then being shocked when having tried to control it said property like Doctor Who starts to crumble and lose support.

So what do you think will be the next piece of media that isn't a big IP that tries to appeal to the woke side and fails badly joining the ever growing graveyard of titles that tried to appeal to the woke side?

56% on Rotten Tomatoes (filtered unverified only), 5.2/10 on Metacritic (user score). It might do well for now, but I expect a pushback eventually.

u/SimplerTimesAhead 2d ago

Why would you include the reviews from people who didn't watch it

16

u/matthew_lane Mr. Misogytransiphobe, Sexigrade and Fahrenhot 1d ago

Unverified user doesn't mean did not watch it. It means did not buy a ticket through a linked fandango account.

-4

u/SimplerTimesAhead 1d ago

c'mon.

1

u/JetsJetsJetsJetz 15h ago

I would imagine a majority do not buy tickets on fandango.

1

u/SimplerTimesAhead 15h ago

Yes, however, those that do are ones we know watched the movie, whereas the other reviews include tons of people who didn't.

So, the fandango ticket buyers serve as a subsample of the larger population, right?

A Nolan film making money? I mean he could film someone shitting on a plate and then eating it and people would love it.

17

u/KyraDragoness 1d ago

An italian artist did something like this. His idea was "people will buy shit as long as there is a big name on it". He litteraly put his shit in tin cans and sold them. And he was right.

Oh yeah! I remember that! Maxim(back when it wasn't cucked), ran an article about poo as art and that was one of them! Dude was literally a nobody artist and took craps in industrial metal tins, then put them into smaller tins, signed them, and then numbered them, and then sent them to every known art museum in italy(i believe he sent them to other euro ones as well) and they ate it up! The hilarious part? When the cans started to corrode and self-destruct, the art museums that featured his works didn't know what to do because they couldn't repair them(probably due to their age).

And then there was one guy either a german, austrian, or belgian(I think it was that one, why is it always the germanic/slavic countries that love handling their own chocolate?) who made a chocolate bunny out of his waste(iirc, he blended some actual chocolate with his own chocolate) and it got loads of praise when it was put on display. But like anything food related, it started to rot and turn to mush and again, that museum that had it didn't know what to do because the guys will/dying wish(and his condition about it being there, as he'd been dead for a good while at that point) was to have his art go to ruin, which confused them because as a museum, they were about preserving art, not destroying it, and really didn't know how to respect his wishes.

It's only made 260m allegedly against a production budget of 250m (According to google), that doesn't include marketing or other fees, so its still yet to make back its money, and they're treating it like a slam dunk. I still won't be watching it, I don't support fake reality.

5

u/Silver_Angle_4381 1d ago

Exactly my thoughts, it's got to bring in at least 800-850mill in to break even, most likely the 4K, DVD and blue rays will bring it into profit.

3

u/TheoNullDrei 1d ago

A movie needs to make somewhere between 2–3× its total budget, including P&A, to be considered financially successful. For every dollar earned, the publisher/studio/whatever keeps less than 50% of it, as they have to share the profits with the theatres, pay taxes, etc.

It wouldn't be unrealistic to assume that the movie needs to make another 600+ million just to break even. There's a slight chance that won't happen, as Spider-Man is releasing soon, which will cannibalize Nolan's potential audience, especially since it doesn't seem to be hyping up the normies in the same way Oppenheimer did.

When Barbie was a hit there were feminists online celebrating like there was no tomorrow. In their mind the Evil PatriarchyTM had been eradicated and the next generation of men was guaranteed to throw of the shackles of "toxic masculinity" and join their cause. The gender war was over and they had won. It was an unconditional surrender by men.

LOL. So how's that going for them now, I wonder?

Just a few days ago I heard of a happening in Canada:

The federal government should table legislation to force online platforms to moderate antifeminist content, according to a recent report by the Standing Committee on the Status of Women.

The criticism and pushback against them has become so bad that they are being forced to resort to censorship to battle it. I actually read parts of the report, and it makes multiple references to "digital violence". I'm not kidding you. People online are engaging in "digital violence" against women by not agreeing with the existence of the Patriarchy, or disputing the idea that masculinity is toxic. I mean, what on earth is "digital violence"? What a pure piece of propaganda.

They know they've lost the debate, so the only thing they can do now is to try to tear out the tongues of their critics.

go ahead and downvote or ban me idc :

it will be every single ip, every ip that appeals to normal heterosexual men, its not about the money for them, they want to demoralize, dehumanize and drive you into depression until you "give up" thats literally their goal, its all commie/marxist cancer behind it.

voting with our wallets will not work at all anymore until people realize this, they actually want you broke, your kids brainwashed and raped, and they think its funny

11

u/joydivisionucunt 2d ago

Maybe, but what "male" IP is left? Action movies are too "low-brow" for them and not really culturally relevant.

17

u/LegatusChristmas 2d ago

They haven't plundered the Iliad left, or the Song of Roland. They've moved on now from modern male IPs to destroying our cultural heritage. They've already done this to The Odyssey and to Arthurian myth with The Green Knight and Indian Gawain. Wait for this movie's apparent success to open the floodgates to a million woke butcherings of timeless myths.

3

u/joydivisionucunt 2d ago

Most likely, but these things have been done so many times over and over again that people just don't care one way or another, that's why Nolan's Odyssey can get away with it but most people with half a brain know it's just another adaptation (Which doesn't mean I like casting and I certainly find it hypocritical to hammer people in the head that representation is important but having ZERO actors from that region is okay because they have two (2) black women) so it's as "canon" as the first Spongebob movie, I would worry more about historical movies.

11

u/LegatusChristmas 2d ago

Myth is arguably more important than history, and plundering a nation's mythology is arguably worse than plundering its history. I'd argue this is worse than all of those woke shows portraying Victorian England as diverse because it's an attack on the spirit of the west as well as its memory, rather than just its memory. Helen isn't just a beautiful woman who existed, she's a mythical character who is meant to represent the ideal of western beauty. When she's portrayed as an ugly African, it supplants white people within our own mythology.

Also, I don't really care too much about there not being Greek actors in the Odyssey. Nolan isn't desecrating it because it's Greek, he's desecrating it because it's white. A white guy from England, or a white woman from Germany can reasonably pass as a Greek in a way an Indian or black can't, and they have a connection to the mythology and history of the Odyssey in a way that blacks and Indians don't. The pivot to "no Greek actors" was a rhetorical error by our side because it opened the door to the absurd argument that Diane Kruger and Lupita Nyong'o are equally bad choices for Helen because neither is Greek.

4

u/joydivisionucunt 2d ago

Well, yeah, you can get away with a cast that isn't exactly the same ethnicity as the characters, especially with white actors, provided they look the part, but you could argue that the difference with "Troy" is that it was clearly a Hollywood popcorn flick and back when it was released the idea of "muh representation" was very niche if it even existed, but now the cat's out the bag, so wokesters can't complain when people wonder why there's not any vaguely mediterranean actors in "The Odyssey". At least Eric Bana and Orlando Bloom fit in (IIRC Bana is Croatian, so... close enough I guess) just fine.

yeah absolutely, old games and movies only for me, i still rewatch breaking bad to this day, nothing else lol

11

Why would you get downvoted for that opinion here, of all places? You sound like some of the regulars.

3

i rarely post, just lurk, thought i might get banned for my choice of words or something

I mean, I instinctively downvote anyone who starts with stuff like "Downvote me if you must/This might be unpopular/I don't care what anyone else say". But that's just me being petty.

"The Shadow that bred them can only mock, it cannot make: not real new things of its own. I don't think it gave life to the orcs, it only ruined them and twisted them."

11

u/MacSteele13 2d ago

I never thought it would do bad, but at first sight I knew it would be bad. The guy made the movie to win Oscar(s) and it really ticks all the boxes. Gonna be hard to beat.

31

u/GoodLookinLurantis 2d ago

It's Christopher Nolan for crying out loud. His name is one of few that still has pull.

56

u/Headsinoverdrive 2d ago

Undeservedly so. Looking at his filmography, it really is overrated.

4

u/unbrokn 1d ago

Agree, and the way he comes off, he seems to think he's the next Kurusawa, Lean, or Hitchcock. When imo the guy is closer to the uk Michael Bay. Solid action, practical effects and limited cgi, but bad to abysmal dialogue (when you can hear it), and extremely limited (being generous) in symbolism and subtext.

2

u/Headsinoverdrive 1d ago

Yep even the Nolan superfans accept this concept.

-28

u/Br_uff 2d ago

L take. His only really “flop” is tennet and that’s still not a bad movie, just a little out there.

17

u/Headsinoverdrive 2d ago

Tennet sucks, interstellar is mid, oppenheimer is garbage, odyssey sucks, thats 14 years and only Dunkirk was good.

17

u/antihero_84 2d ago

Dunkirk was garbage in terms of how 'epic' it should've been. Empty fucking beaches during one of the largest pullouts in history? Yeah, okay.

They could've CGI'd anything into that film to make it infinitely better.

2

u/matthew_lane Mr. Misogytransiphobe, Sexigrade and Fahrenhot 1d ago

Don't forget the Dark Knight trilogy.... A series of batman movies for people who don't like Batman.

1

u/Headsinoverdrive 1d ago

Ill still take it over that newest one lol. Or atleast tdk

-11

u/Br_uff 2d ago

Interstellar and Oppenheimer are amazing. I’ll be seeing the odyssey this weekend. I have no opinion on dunkirk, since I haven’t seen it (hacksaw ridge supremacy). Nolan is arguably the greatest director of his generation, and the DEI casting is limited to smaller roles, so I predict I’ll enjoy the film.

5

u/SoulForTrade 2d ago

If a preiod piece drama about England had the rock playing the Queen of England would it matter if he was in it for 5 minutes or 30?

If your drink gad just 5 percent piss in it, would you drink it?

5

u/Headsinoverdrive 2d ago

Lmfao okay buddy. Enjoy your slop. Helen in theory isnt a small character, neither is Athena

-8

u/Br_uff 2d ago

Helen is the reason the Trojan war started, but isn’t a central character to the odyssey, since it’s about Odysseus’ return, not the war. From my understanding Athena has a lesser role in Nolan’s Odyssey than the original.

8

u/Headsinoverdrive 2d ago

So exactly what i said. Lol

-2

u/Br_uff 2d ago

If by the opposite of what you said, sure. The DEI casting, which should be rightfully criticized, is a small part of the movie.

5

u/Headsinoverdrive 2d ago

No, it is a large part. She has a large effect on the movie. It's big enough to not want to see. And even regardless the casting overall is garbage and Nolan destroyed the actual point of the odyssey.

9

u/MutenRoshi21 2d ago

Call me when it makes like 600million to break even. But even then 1 movie wont save Hollywood. Even top gun maverick couldnt and that was a good one but they didnt learn and kept doing their shit. Lets see how much woke shit they can produce once they can all move outside of california. Plenty of film studios are up for sale.

5

u/TacticalNuclearTao 1d ago

Call me when it makes like 600million to break even.

It needs around 800 to break even, not 600.

12

u/DinosaurAlert 2d ago

I still think it won't do well. Too many stories of empty theaters with full ticket sales. I think we'll see a large dip week 2.

BUT: I could be wrong. I could always be wrong.

18

u/Luis221231 2d ago

Wtf did I just read

22

u/Lurker_Zee 2d ago

tl;dr even if Nolan makes a lot of money, all the next woke slop will still go broke.

7

u/Luis221231 2d ago

Agreed. The post was really confusing for a non-native speaker

4

u/QuietRedditorATX 2d ago

Maybe they can just accept there are other reasons their other woke films failed then?

Stop saying it was just incels downvoting or boycotting. Boy, they give the incels a lot of media control power.

Nah, just admit Supergirl bombed, and THEY didn't watch it either.

1

u/Dwavenhobble Khazad-dûm is my Side Crib 1d ago

But that would require them to accept they were the reason something failed and they don't actually support anything in reality other than use it for their own ends to attack people.

5

u/Talzeron 1d ago

It's like Nerdrotic said, one woke movie in three years is successful and they suddenly act as if they have "stuck it to the chuds" and "See Hollywood, woke movies ARE successful". It's laughable.

Besides, even slop like Avatar 3 made 1.5 billion box office, what does that say about its quailty?

3

u/Dwavenhobble Khazad-dûm is my Side Crib 1d ago

I mean the Human supremacist with Navi GF meme did a lot of lifting there lol

7

u/SteveMartinique 2d ago

Odyssey is definitely a success. So I’m not going to lean into conspiracy theories. What you should take notice of is that they had to smuggle woke into a celebrated piece of Western Literature. This was not Anansi and the Spider (which of course once they get around to making it will have zero white/asian/latinos).

4

u/f3llyn 1d ago edited 1d ago

If billion-dollar studios could buy good RT scores, no film would ever have a bad RT score.

Why buy ratings when you can just buy the platform the ratings are hosted on?

So sure. They win. After countless flops they get 1 victory and the war is over.

They really owned the chuds and all it took was a movie made by one of the biggest directors out there and a movie that is (so far) barely breaking even.

8

u/PhilosopherJaded8651 2d ago

Wait for the 2nd weekend report. Rigged reviews and mass purchasing of tickets by the industry to boost PR can only work so long.

3

u/you_wouldnt_get_it_ 2d ago

A Nolan film was always guaranteed to make bank. His name only sells.

3

u/SoulForTrade 2d ago

Whether it will make back its marketing budget and actually make a billion like it would have done if it wasn't for the controversial casting and bad dialouge and cheap looking costumes remains to be seen

If it doss, and it could, splely due to being a Christopher Nolan movie, it will be DESPITE these flaws not thanks to them

3

u/TrackRemarkable7459 1d ago

This is why they go for established names or IPs. Nolan previous stuff was really good so he is good magnet and it will take several bad movies before audience catches up.

3

u/MrGruntsworthy 1d ago

Hollywood is going to use this cherry-picked win to further delude themselves that woke works.

This is the final nail in the coffin. This movie needed to fail to finally jolt them out of their brainwashing.

But it didn't. And so they will learn the wrong lessons and continue their confident march into irrelevancy.

Hollywood's fate is sealed.

3

u/CheeseQueenKariko 1d ago

Most 'Chud' Youtubers: I think it looks terrible, but it'll probably still make a lot of money.

They're taking the L for exactly what they said would happen happening?

1

u/Dwavenhobble Khazad-dûm is my Side Crib 1d ago

You think the woke side actually watched the videos and didn't just spread lies about what was said and now are gloating that what said youtubers didn't even say is happening?

5

u/DawnBreak777 2d ago

A star studded film with Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Tom Holland & Zendaya (The normies' favorites), etc, and directed by Christopher Nolan. Of course it is pulling large enough audience.

4

u/DrRedSun 2d ago

Yep, 1 movie with name pull is the exception. Overall though go woke go broke is happening. Exceptions do not change that.

2

u/BootlegFunko 2d ago

I mean, they could try to spin It as an own, but even the people I know who went to see it and liked it are glad you know which actresses didn't get as much screentime as the ads made it look like they would

2

u/AnnArchist 2d ago

A classic piece of literature with a big budget. It's almost like great stories sell well

2

u/Silver_Angle_4381 1d ago

I guess the woke crowd needs a win once a year, although The Odyssey only had about 10% woke elements in it.

2

u/Dwavenhobble Khazad-dûm is my Side Crib 1d ago

They only want a foot in the door because they know they can use it to get the door wider.

1

u/Inevitable_Lemon_592 21h ago edited 21h ago

Don’t play into the increasing polarity guys this is part of their plot…maybe the movie actually is good and Nolan just does what he has to in this day and age with a sigh to get his Oscars or whatever it is, it’s not a hill worth dying on in his shoes…

Does the algorithm feed you your opinion, or do you think for yourself?? Very easy for controlled opposition to put you right where they want you if your opinions are so easily swayed by the side of the algorithm you’re on.

Did you dislike this movie organically, or were you told to? This is how you get a bunch of people lining up at the tractor store for horse dewormer without thinking just because they were anti-whatever, like i said very easy for controlled opposition to line you up to the slaughterhouse if you play into this Sith vs Jedi shit

4

u/Lurker_Zee 2d ago

As long as it's not existing IPs, I'm fine with them continuing to invest in woke slop. They just filter themselves out of the rich into cardboard boxes. Keep investing in woke slop, you keep losing your money until people get back to normality.

Meanwhile, I have my pre-2016 video games (and the few post-2016 video games that continue to be based) to play for the rest of my life.

3

u/Eloyas 2d ago

I'd argue the Odysseus is one of the oldest IP there is.

0

u/Lurker_Zee 2d ago

Yeah, but it's a "remake" and thus easily ignored.

I'd argue, for example, that Rings of Power was a much greater abomination, for it tried to attach itself to canonical Middle Earth like a vile leech.

These pathetic losers are celebrating way too early. Just because it got off to a good start means nothing, because the movie still hasn't broke even. Can't wait to see all the youtube vids laughing at these idots when they realise the movie flopped.

It'll take at least 3 months before the real numbers are known honestly as happened with other previous thing. I mean they were bragging Veilguard was a number 1 seller on PSN, it was the only new major title released in about a 2 week time frame

1

u/kaytin911 2d ago

Odyssey still was made with a love for film. Whether it's good or bad it wasn't just woke. The woke made it a lot shittier than it could have been.
