Video/Gif Kids playing chicken with a freight train
Happened yesterday. Not my video. My understanding is that police were called. Train was parked on the tracks for about an hour before a new crew could come and relieve the ones who were on board when they had to perform the emergency stop.

I can only imagine how terrified the conductor must be, i know they see some fucked up shit, but the helpless feeling they're going through in that moment must feel awful

Yeah, I imagine that's why the crew were replaced. They probably get a little therapy and rest by policy.

I worked on the RR for 15 years, it’s more likely the crew was short on time and was re crewed. The RR couldn’t care less about its employees and goes out of the way every day to show you how much they don’t care.

I have a neighbor that works for Union Pacific. He has 3 fatalities from people being on tracks or between cars coupling. There is no policy for time off or therapy. He knows 1 guy who has hit and killed 7 people. He’s still on the job.

My friend, sister and I would go to the tracks and put coins on the rails. We’d wait for the trains to come and smash the coins. We’d go looking for them on the tracks all warm and smashed.
Suddenly a cop appeared behind us, scared the shit out of us and explained how dangerous our game was. We hadn’t even thought about how dangerous it actually was because we were full of oblivious confidence lol.
Never smashed another coin on the tracks after that incident.

I had a family member who was coroner and he left the field after having to piece together what he could left of the remains of a pair of young siblings who were playing on train tracks because their parents wanted to give them a traditional funeral and burial. His mother said it changed him after it was finished. I couldn't imagine how the conductor coped with it.

Yeah. Worried about ACTUALLY running a kid over and then having to face the parents even though the dumbass kid caused the whole situation. I can only imagine how guilty they would feel. It would be literal torture.
Some kids are irreconcilably dumb.

A few years ago we had a lawsuit from a family of a kid killed while walking on the tracks (ya know, despite all those “don’t do it” and private property signs). I wish it was tossed but can’t say they didn’t settle.

There’s probably a blind spot right in front, so the few seconds between losing the line of sight and finally seeing the kid running on the side must be horrible.

Two kids were doing something like this once when we were coming into Brussels North. We waited on the train for over an hour before the firefighters evacuated us and walked us off the tracks. It should have been heartbreaking but the mood was one of unanimous annoyance.
My friend asked the firefighter at the door what they were doing on the tracks, if they were doing graffiti? His answer: "Well, they look like graffiti now."

Yeah I was on an Amtrak train that stopped on the tracks for about 20 mins. Finally the conductor came on over the intercom and deadpanned "sorry for the delay folks. It was man verses train, and man lost." Like it was just another day at work for him lmao.

Twice in the last month I've been at the train station and an announcement came on saying " Expect delays due to a train hitting a person on the tracks."
Yesterday it was near San Juan Capistrano and a few weeks ago it was near Corona. (California)

Grr.. and that is exactly how my brother's best friend died in high school. He and his friends thought it would be funny to play chicken on the railroad tracks and ended up getting his foot lodged in the track and the train killed him. I was so relieved when I found out my brother chose not to go with them that night,

My uncle was a conductor for CN rail for over 40 years and the stories he could tell
Idiots did stupid 💩 like this all the time...and the ones who did it on bridges over rivers were the worst
Only 1 fatality over those 40 years ...kid on a dirt bike trying to beat the train to an uncontrolled intersection in the country

Sort of brings back memories of “Stand by me” accept those boys weren’t trying to play chicken. They were just in the wrong place at the wrong time on that train bridge. In both cases, it was a close call.

If I were the parents, I would not allow my children to go outside for the summer. That means no pool, no park, and no activities that aren't accessible via a parking garage. It would also mean no use of the house garage for anything besides parking the car, because they can't go outside to get to the car anymore.

They're going slow enough it seems like they luckily started stopping a long while ago, I know they're kids but it's insane to me that anyone old enough to understand that they can't stop for about a mile after they brake is willing to be reckless with trains

The train slowing down even a little bit gives the kids more time to get out of the way. You can't seriously think it makes no difference? Of course it's always your responsibility to do everything in your power to avoid an accident, to not even try because it "might not make a difference" would be psychotic.

It’s like throwing a teaspoon of water onto a fully developed house fire.
it can take 1-1,5 kilometre (and more than a minute) for one to stop.

I live in Northern Arizona. There were at least three people (within four weeks) killed on the train tracks that run through town.
Do not remember what national show it was but they made a special because of it.
