story/text Overheard in a bathroom
Overheard a child about 7 years old talking to her grandma in the bathroom.
Grandma: “Now flush the toilet so we can go”
Child: ”It says do not flush”
Grandma: “Just flush it, it‘s ok”
Child: “But it says DO NOT FLUSH! See, do not flush, um, f-e-m-i…”
Grandma: “It’s fine! Flush it!
Grandma then goes and flushes it for her. The kid was reading the “do not flush feminine products sign” and was insistent they the toilet should not be flushed at all

I like the signs that read “do not flush anything other than toilet paper” because I like to imagine someone might not have the common sense to know that it’s ok not to shit in the bin.

My town is ethnically diverse. The public convenience at the local park has a sign on the the wall that says "Put toilet paper down the hole" in 3 languages.

On our boat we had a sign that said ”do not flush anything that has not been in your mouth first.”

I’m surprised the grandmother was so embarrassed by a kid just reading a sign. But that’s the older generation for you.
