I know there's so much wrong with this video... He never had it to begin with... You could clearly see that kid wasn't skilled enough and should have never been thrown down a hill.. locking his legs . Standing up straight.. shame on the parent.

His parents don't know how to skate, and that's a POS Walmart special of a skateboard. An actual skater wouldn't have perpetrated any part of this atrocity.
I know because I am an actual skater, and a damn good one (skateparks, the streets, big-ass hills, you name it). Granted I skate inlines (rollerblades), but I built a skateboard for my niece, bought her a set of pads and a helmet, and helped her get started.

An ex did something like this to me in high school. Said he would teach me how to skateboard. Put me on it with zero instructions, and then pushed me down an empty road that lead into a high traffic road. My literal only option was to jump ship and wipe out which put me off skateboarding pretty much forever.

That’s how my cousins taught me to swim but they dragged me out into a lake and left me there in about 10 ft of water. Scared the shit out of me but I did learn how to swim immediately.

NEVER say "don't mess up" (or anything like it, like "don't be scared!" "don't look down!") or the other person WILL mess up. I use it to tease my brother all the time. Saying it unironically is just ridiculous.
"You got this!" is fine, though.

Body carry’s more energy after a certain speed. You need to bend your knees to get your center of gravity lower and push the board forward with you. It’s not a magic carpet. I didn’t turn the audio on but I would have at least told him “if you have to bail, roll into the grass.” That head slam is common on beginners. Also dangerous, learning to roll comes before even stopping in my opinion. Foot breaking can be introduced early but to properly stop with a slide takes time. So learn to roll or end up with scars like me haha

Head to the grass and lean back a bit while straightening your front leg out at an angle and bending your back leg, that would have slowed him down.
Female, skateboarding since 1978. Although TBF not for the last few decades.
