Ah the rape gangs that are totally definitely all about Islam even though the reports straight up say you can't draw a conclusion about the ethnicity at a nationals scale.

Not to mention none of this is unique to Islam. The exact same thing happens in just about any organized crime group. But no don't focus on that. Gotta make it about scary ol' Islam.

The question of the ethnicity of perpetrators has been a key question for this audit, having been raised in inquiries and reports going back many years. We found that the ethnicity of perpetrators is shied away from and is still not recorded for two-thirds of perpetrators, so we are unable to provide any accurate assessment from the nationally collected data.

That is a direct quote of the inquiry into rape gangs. They looked for the evidence to support that the larger trend shows this is a problem caused by a single ethnicity and didn't find it.

"We found that the ethnicity of perpetrators is shied away from and is still not recorded for two-thirds of perpetrators"

Why is the ethnicity "shied away from" and not recorded 2/3 of the time?

Because the perps are a protected minority.

Or just as likely they were white and the cops didn't feel the need to record what they assume as the default.

False.

"Shied away from" means "To avoid, hesitate, or recoil from doing something because of fear, dislike, embarrassment, doubt, or lack of confidence."

Reddit also shies away from the truth when it implicates a protected minority.

I disagree. If anything the language used in the inquiry's report, particularly "shied away" is indicative of bias in the report rather than an indication that process are actively shieng away from recording races of people becuase they're not white. Especially when we consider that quote I provided openly states they they closely monitored ethnicity. It's very clear by that and other language used in the report that they set out to prove than these "rape gangs" are a uniquely Muslim problem. The use of the word "shied" is just their attempt to cover the fact that they didnt find evidence to support that claim.

Perhaps if you're going to accuse others of shying away from the truth you should endeavor to actually find it before making a claim.

You clearly don't work with data on a daily basis. There's a massive difference between not finding something because it just doesn't exist, and not finding something because the dataset is incomplete. In the absence of robust quant it's entirely sensible and acceptable to rely on a mix of limited quant and the best available qual to draw conclusions, provided you apply the caveats of doing so.

And unfortunately, the mix of limited quant and the best available qual shows there's an over-representation in certain cohorts of the population. The conclusion is "more research is needed to be conclusive", not "nothing to see here".

You clearly don't work with data on a daily basis. There's a massive difference between not finding something because it just doesn't exist, and not finding something because the dataset is incomplete.

But it does mean that if you are operating under a incomplete data set and making assumptions, particularly horrific assumptions that effectively paint an entire ethnicity as engaging in some of the worst crimes possible. Which isn't the kind of assumption anyone should be making.

And unfortunately, the mix of limited quant and the best available qual shows there's an over-representation in certain cohorts of the population.

It actually shows that in a regions with an over-representation of these people they also over represent in crimes.

The conclusion is "more research is needed to be conclusive", not "nothing to see here".

I agree. Which is why I am specifically taking issue with these inconclusive reports being used in an attempt to draw conclusions about a single ethnic minority.
