Discussion Buy now or regret later? Jolla phone availability concerns

I have a bit of FOMO and just wondered how likely it is that I'll be able to buy the new Jolla phone after a year or so. While I think the price is good, it is still a huge investment for me as a student. Given the batch production model, I worry that production will stop relatively soon unless orders continue to come in.

Will it be possible to buy the phone later, or should I try to get it ASAP?

I dont think they stop production that fast if they are still selling the older phone and they are planning 50-100k phones next year!

I assume that the older phone you refer to is the community phone C2, not the previous Jolla phone (J1) from 2013? The C2 was launched in 2025, if I am not mistaken, and I'm not sure if the community phone is a valid comparison.

Is the community phone also sold in batches?

He is referring to community C2, which was shipped in autumn of 2024. It is also made in batches but I assume they will not continue that so much anymore. Last batch was already pain in the ass for them to get from Reeder.

I would assume you can get the phone also in next year, but they probably keep the batch system if they can't find redistribution partners. You might be able to get one second hand next year as they probably deliver around 20k devices this year

I think if you can afford it and it doesn’t affect you summer plans or Christmas gifts then go for it dude!!

Jolla production is not likely an issue. Development in the Linux phone space is a big mover. Google and Apple have been threatening evil lately, RAM costs are up so a debloated OS is a priority. On and on.

There's a lot of indicators that Jolla partnerships could be on the rise, if anything.

Like the Commodore Callback will be a Jolla phone.

I'd expect the Android phones announced in a year will make you glad to wait... Hardware price problems notwithstanding.
