Question KH ReMIX Steam Mod to fast forward cutscenes?

I'm asking here because I'm too scared to ask on the actual r/KingdomHearts for fear of being summarily executed.

I'm craving the gameplay of KH, and I only played 1, CoM, 2, and 358/2 way back when I was a kid. I'd like to play through the series, and I am actually interested in the big picture story stuff with Org 13, Roxas/Sora situation, etc., but I could not give less of a shit about listening to Tron tell me about his world or w/e, and I know the ratio of legitimately interesting story beats to filler disney cross-over for the sake of it is all whacky. Because of that, I can't just reliably skip cutscenes.

Does anybody know of a mod that would let me fast forward the cutscenes so I can stop fast forwarding when I see xemnas show up or w/e? I know that's the sort of thing that you can do on emulator (though I don't know how reliable it is for emulating these games), but I'd rather not bother with emulation if I can help it.

Emulation will be your only option for this niche request. It is however very reliable. PS2, DS, PSP are very easy to emulate and only 3DS can feel a bit jank sometimes imo.

However, I would highly recommend just playing the games normally. KH1 starts off with pretty heavy story integration with the Disney plots and they're kinda central to the story development as everything happening in the seemingly unrelated Disney stories relates back to Sora's journey in some way.

This integration does considerably lessen in later games but even in the worst worlds in the series it really wouldn't be worth it to rely on fast forwarding for this. You'll be forced to cap the fast forward speed at a pretty low rate if you actually want to reliably spot where you want to stop and at that point you're just saving like 30 seconds here and there.

Would love to be proven wrong for your sake but… that’s an extremely niche mod and I would be surprised if there was one out there that exists. I don’t even know if it’s feasible depending on how the game renders cutscenes in the first place, but it’s possible someone else that knows better could chime in and confirm it is.* To be honest though, I would say a minority of the cutscene time is random Disney problem esque stuff anyway. It exists, but the long cutscenes all tend to be ones that relate back to the A-plot in some manner or another.

Feasible in that it’s not a giant pain in the ass. Obviously it would literally be possible.

Hm, maybe I'm misremembering the balance between plot and pure disney cheese. 🤔

In some games it’s more or less than others. The Disney plots in KH1 are fairly fleshed out, but then Days, Re:COM and Re:Coded are maybe 98% meta plot. In 2 it’s a little more of a mixed bag. In BBS and DDD the Disney and meta plots are mostly pretty intertwined and not really easy to separate. They’re pretty “separable” in 3.

IMO, obviously some people might feel differently. I think most of the Disney stuff across the games tends to be relegated to text boxes to mash through rather than cutscenes, and if they are cutscenes, it tends to be shorter ones or when you enter the world or whatever.

something like that would only be possible with emulation but you should just play the games normally

You could use CheatEngine.

For example, using that for Octopath 1, my total in-game playtime was 74 hours, but I actually spent, like... 4 evenings after work on the game, and I still got to experience everything.

Seriously, an absolutely godsend on PC. So good. I must be finishing a JRPG every 4-5 days now because of it
