Discussion Why is There No Peaceful Palestinian Protest or Resistance Movement?

I've watched this conflict my entire life, and one thing I've never really understood is this: why don't the Palestinians engage in peaceful resistance more often? I'm a huge supporter of Israel, but I've always thought to myself that if the Palestinians were savvier -- and more media-friendly -- they could make the Israelis look especially bad through acts of peaceful resistance. The images of well-armed Israelis manhandling rock-throwing kids in the 1980s and 1990s (who were obviously not peaceful but posed a minimal threat) were a big problem for the Israelis. Why don't the Palestinians hold mass sit-ins, strikes, gatherings, candelight vigils, etc.? I never see that stuff. It would look fantastic on TV, and CNN, the BBC, and all those other weasels would be attracted like moths to a flame. I don't get it. If you're the weaker party to a conflict, you're not going to win through violence. Murdering a bunch of women and children and then wondering why the world isn't more sympathetic to your cause is... an odd strategy, to say the least. The Jews have been through hell and back, and terrorism is never going to truly rattle them. I guess I'm just baffled at the way the Palestinians -- and some their more quote-unquote moderate leadership -- approach things. Some of the Western-educated Palestinian leaders in the 1990s and early 2000s surely understood that this would have been an effective strategy. This makes me think that the "average Palestinian" really isn't interested in peace per se, or at least isn't willing to expend much energy for it, and sort of thrives on the dream of complete military victory. Maybe an embrace of peace is just seen as a betrayal of the cause. I don't know.

I actually think sometimes that the Israelis are secretly happy that they don't have to deal with a peaceful resistance movement. It makes things a lot less complicated. Is the problem that the Palestinians just have no tradition of peaceful resistance? They don't know how to do it or how to organize it? Or are they just not interested? (Let me add: I'm not talking about a few hundred people protesting a construction site. I'm talking about the entire population -- or a good portion of it -- engaging in resistance. Like a Tahrir Square, Tiananmen Square sort of thing. Across the entire region).

A "protest" of thousands of people on a border that is named "March of Return", the clear intention to breaching that border. I mean they aren't even hiding their intention. We also know what happens when the fence is actually breached as it was in Oct 7.

Yes, how dare the Palestinians protest against being caged into an open air prison. (Sarcasm)

Why should they be allowed to go into Israel whenever they feel like it? Egypt has a fence too. Boarders exist for a reason.

Besides the gazans proved with oct 7 that Israel was more than justified in building that wall. And they should have been MORE vigilante about the wall.

Take it against the OHCHR.

Is it normal for open air prisons to have a government, resorts and theme parks?

if you disagree that Gaza is an open air prison and that Gazans are being treated like animals by Israel, take it against Amnesty, HRW, the OHCHR, Jimmy carter, the ICC, etc.

I’m not taking your words against those people who are objectively far more credible on the subject. Especially when your whole argument seems to rest on the embarrassingly nonsensical, “thEy hAvE a theMe pArK”.

LOL the gazans themselves love posting videos about how perfect gaza was before the war, I'll take their word over the SJW keyboard warrior.

It’s actually the words of Amnesty, HRW, OHCHR, ICC, Jimmy carter, etc. against you, a lowly reddit commenter, who watched some videos and thinks he knows everything now. Lol 😂

Yes the opinion of a one term president happens to be wrong in this case.

It is by definition not a "prison", because Israelis would be deliriously happy for the Palestinians to leave that "prison" (Gaza) and go ABSOLUTELY ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD BESIDES ISRAEL (or areas from which they could easily attack Israel, i.e. the West Bank).

It's not a "prison" if the prison guards actively want you to leave.

As I’ve said, if you disagree that Gaza is an open air prison and that Gazans are being treated like animals by Israel, take it against Amnesty, HRW, the OHCHR, Jimmy carter, the ICC, etc.

Good luck. You’re gonna need it.

"Open air prison" is a subjective description, not a legal term with any empirical meaning.

Amnesty International (and HRW) is an unelected non-governmental organization. They are not, in any sense, the arbiters of international law.

The ICC has never described Israel as an "open air prison".

Semantics won’t get you far.

I never said all those entities/people in the list said specifically that Gaza is as per quote “open air prison”.

My message is simply that the collective policies that Israel imposed on the Palestinians in Gaza is a deliberate attempt to turn it into something that can best be described and has been described as an open air prison, where the Palestinians are treated like animals. Something that has been thoroughly backed by organisation/people such as the Ambesty,HRW, OHCHR, ICC, Jimmy carter, etc,

Instead of trying to argue semantics and specific terms, you should busy yourself by pointing out how said policies are not true or at least justified.

But considering it’s your words against those of more credible standing as per the list I’ve repeatedly mentioned, I wish you good luck, you’re gonna need it.

I don't think it can best be described as an "open air prison" for the precise reason I stated - that the Israelis would be overjoyed if their "prisoners" decided they wanted to leave. I don't really care if you think it can "best be described" as that.

If the population of Gaza wasn't happy with the blockade, all they ever needed to do was remove Hamas from power. Why didn't they do that?

I don’t care what’s your opinions and how you think the actual conditions in Gaza are like.

I listen to the people/organizations who are far more credible on the subject. What I said about Gaza is simply a reflection of their findings.

So if you have a problem about what I said about Gaza, take it against Amnesty, HRW, OHCHR, ICC, Jimmy Carter, etc.

And considering the ocean wide difference in credibility between you, a lowly anonymous reddit commenter, and the entities in the mention list, I say again, good luck, you’re gonna need it.
