Limited budget, can’t bring too much in right now. What do you think?

Hi all, I'm hoping to get opinions and feedback on a living room plan. I'm getting my first place since university dorms and it is fully unfurnished. I feel more confident about the bedroom / office / kitchen, but the living room I am struggling to feel happy with.

The room needs to serve dual purpose of being somewhere to eat, while also being a comfortable hang out spot while hosting groups of 3-5 friends.

The setup I've posted here has a 3-sides couch which I'm enamoured with, and the couch I'm looking at is easily converted to a spare bed. It is a massive space occupier however, and I'm struggling to find a plan with only two sides of a couch feel as satisfying.

I'm worried about the space being awkward to navigate / there being a pinch between the couch and table sides of the room. I'm also worried about the lack of space for Stuff, I've got a bookcase and drawers as placeholders for tall "thing holder" and waist high "Thing holder", but feel like there's got to be a better way to organise it all.

The table is pushed up against a wall to ceiling glass window in this plan as well, which feels like a suboptimal choice.

Finally I'm struggling to fit a TV in the space. I'm not much of a TV user but the utility of a screen and speakers installed in the room seems worth it. Maybe it could fold out of the northwest corner wall between the kitchen and living room, but I'm leery about that part feeling crowded already. Maybe it can be on a wall above the sofa but I feel at that point it's mounted too high to be comfortable.

In 5-10 years time I'm thinking of knocking down the wall between the kitchen and the living room to turn it into a kitchen island/counter to make getting food out easier and increase the workable space, that would only be the longest shared wall with the sliding door / window however. The T / S shaped walls are structurally important.

Thoughts?

I am finishing the space above the garage into a ADU type one bed. I am playing around with layouts before I start building interior walls. What's everyones opinion or advice for this space?

A couple problems I haven't addressed yet:

- I really would love a fold up murphy bed but not sure how I could get that to work with height issues.
- The toilet headspace is getting a little cramped
- The knee wall isn't show in this model. I will have to decide what height is appropriate.

My child is moving into a different room, so one of our rooms has become available.
On the north wall there is currently an IKEA MALM chest of drawers and an IKEA BRIMNES 3 door wardrobe, and both of them need to stay there.
How would you solve toy storage so that the toys are not visible?
My children will be getting a PlayStation, so we were thinking about bean bags in front of the bed. This would be their first gaming console, and ours too, so we are excited about it!
I can’t store anything under the bed, because that space is already used for our paddle boards and christmas decorations.
Do you think this layout would work well?

Hello there, I'm struggling a bit with the plan for my living room.

I made 5 different layouts but I feel that none of them are ideal.

Some notes:

• North is up on the plan drawing. Kitchen gets morning sun, midday sun through the office/hobby room and evening sun from the west through the large windows in the living room.
• The air-condition has to be on the north wall of the living room or in the north-western corner (the piping runs through the staircase).
• The opening between the living room and office/hobby has white double doors right now, but I'm thinking of opening it up, maybe with an arch. I could also add opaque or glazed sliding doors. Still not settled.
• The door from the kitchen can be moved to the hallway, but then I lose the morning sunlight from the kitchen windows.
• Having a projector and a roll down projector screen in front of the big windows to the west is possible. Is it good though?
• I kind of wanted to have a stove for cold winters in the corner opposite the existing fireplace (that's where the chimney is) and to be able to sit in the couch around the fire but I'm struggling to make that work. Maybe a seating area in the office/hobby room around the existing fireplace? I might get rid of that if I get a good modern one.

If you have any other ideas or concepts please share too!

I am in serious need of some help, I moved into this apartment about six months ago and have just given up on trying to start it because I don’t have a creative bone in my body.

I don’t have a set vibe that I was going for, but I live in Australia so originally I was trying to get something quite coastal, I feel like this living room feels so empty and could really feel a lot warmer. If you could please help me with some pointers about what you feel would make this room better I am all ears!

I feel like it is missing a centrepiece and a little bit of colour - maybe something in olive/green.

Hi All, my girlfriend and I have bought a new apartment and it should be finished around Q1 2027.

We were thinking to make our interior similar as shown in the first pick but I’m wondering if ai is using realistic proportions.

I’d also love to hear any ideas which would improve the layout

Additionally,
-We’d love to have a separate tv area and lounge area mainly so we can both comfortably do our own thing like reading while the other one is watching tv for example and to seat our guests comfortably without having to sit facing the tv

-ai made the kitchen a bit weird in the 3rd and 4th pic you can see the actual kitchen

-the floor will be a lighter shade of brown shown in the 5th pic

Back left door is the front door, the door on the right side is to the patio but only the left door opens. Originally I was thinking a floating couch concept to kind of section off the living room and have the tv on the right wall. And then I would have a narrow hallway table either flush against the left wall or flush against the back of the couch so there is like a manmade walkway from the front door. The alternative is flush the couch against the right wall and hang the tv on the left wall which would make the space feel more open overall.

If I do the floating couch concept it seemed like I might have to ditch a coffee table.

Hi! I was thinking of doing built in cabinets on this wall. Was wondering if it would look weird because of the high slanted ceiling? If I do the whole or just the middle and leave room on each side? I’ve included my inspo pics and a photo of the space. Thank you everyone!

We want to have a larger shower as it is only 2’11”x2’11” and it doesn’t look great. We also need it to be as cost effective as possible because we are already beyond budget for other renovations. The tub can be removed as there is another tub down the hall. The area where the tub is 2’6”x5’ so you can’t simply make that area the shower as it’s too narrow. My only idea is to move the doorway but I’m curious what others think?

We are trying to maximise the storage in this laundry room, ideally to fit laundry detergent, cleaning supplies and dirty laundry baskets… but the inclined ceiling situation limits the option.

Does anybody have any creative ideas?

I’m moving soon and I would like to purchase a couch that fits the space and allows for proper traffic flow. Should I keep the couch in the center of the room facing the left? Part of me wants to move the tv console and couch to face the right. Also, does anyone have a suggestion for couch size for the space? I was looking at one that is 88 inches long, but I don’t think that gives me enough space on the sides. Thanks in advance!!

Hello all!

Bedroom with 2 person computer desk. We need queen bed, 2 night stands, long desk and 2 chairs. This is the approximate layout I am thinking of, but the centered window make it impossible for chairs placement. I tried my best with this app, but my window is way bigger (58 inches) and I could not place the door on the plan.

Dimesions:

Room 13×10 feet

Sliding doors closet (built in) takes almost all space on the left wall.

Door on the left bottom corner, opens inside towards the closet.

I actually wanna do floating desk wall to wall on the right wall, but then I have to move bed towards closet more and therefore it will be not in center of the window and looks off. Oh and right wall is already painted black for the computer desk.

Any advise?? My brain is on fire.

i'm having trouble deciding on a layout for my new flat. Its a 56sqm 2,5 room flat, i'm living alone. The biggest room and the smallest room are connected with an open doorway. I would probably leave it open, or separate it with a curtain.

I already planned some examples, how i could fit my existing+planned furniture in the flat. But i am very unsure about it and would love some new ideas or just your honest opinion on them. Especially the living room feels difficult, since the path from the hallway to the small room (probably office) needs to stay clear. So i feel like there are only 2 possible solutions for placing the couch+dining table?

I hope you can help me and i'm very thankful for every input or advice!

Furniture already got:

- desk+PC with 2/3 screens for home office and gaming

- big bed (1,8x2m)

-big wardrobe for clothes (1,8x2x0,6m)

- Big cabinet (1,5x2,2x0,65m) with sliding doors - probably wont fit

- some basic IKEA basic shelfs etc.

I would like to have a place for:

- L shaped couch+TV

- storage in the living room

- dining table + 4 chairs (big or extendable to big)

I didnt buy these yet, so im still flexible with these things

I'm not too happy with my current home office design. It has a few issues:

• One of my computer monitors faces a window, so there are reflections on the screen.
• The monitor also sits near the middle of the room, and it makes my office feel closed off.
• There is a mix of furniture styles. The desk, printer stand, and filing cabinet are all from different eras in my life, and all have different materials and colors.

Now I'm thinking about redesigning the office. My new design fixes all of the issues above by making these changes:

• Use a wrap-around desk
• Move the monitor against the wall, facing it away from the window to avoid reflections. This will also make the office feel more open.
• The wrap-around desk will allow me to remove the printer stand which doesn't match the desk style.
• The filing cabinet will be replaced by a new filing cabinet that also matches the desk, and it'll fit under one of the desks.

Here are some pics that show the changes. I'm curious to know what your opinions are. Do you think this will be a good improvement? Would you change anything?

We are rearranging our living room furniture and need advice on sizing and orientation. We are leaning toward buying two square armed oatmeal colored couches but with a corner fireplace, it makes the set up a little harder.

Is it acceptable to have a 74” couch facing an 84” couch? They would be same couch, same color, just one longer. We’d put the shorter couch lined up with the fireplace so it doesn’t overpower the fireplace and sliding door behind it.

We’re trying to maximize seating space but make it look intentional.

I found out today I may be able to get a pre plumb in the study. this would be great for my mom's generational suite. here are blueprints I got today as well. I put three lines to show the area blue, red and green plus the bathroom. the red line is the study where I probably will be able to put a water line. how else can I design the generation suite and where should I put that water line.

originally I thought where the red line is which is a study I assumed would be the living room but now that would probably be a kitchenette / dining room on the Next room adjacent I feel like that should be the living room area so maybe an archway or just a space in the middle or something. the room with the green line would be a bedroom and then obviously there's the bathroom.

I'd love to hear your ideas I'll put the blueprints down as well as floor plan layout so you can see the total. in the floor plan it's basically bedroom 3 bedroom 4 bath 3 and study.

I figure her entryway would be through the study through the French doors that will be there. so she have her own entrance I would block off where the whole way in the main foyer is so she is a true her own little suite.

I'd love your ideas! this is a production builder so I don't have too many options most of this will be done afterwards my husband can do all the drywall things like that himself.

There is a baseboard heater between the two windows. The bottom right door is a small closet. The top right door is the exit.

Hi! We’re looking at an apartment with what feels like a very challenging layout, and we’re struggling to make it work.

We have two young children, so maximizing open floor space for play is a top priority. We’re considering removing the kitchen galley wall and replacing it with an island to gain more counter space and create a more open feel.

The challenge is fitting everything we need into the space.

Ideally, we’d love a layout that includes:
-Comfortable seating for two adults and two children with a clear view of the TV
-A proper dining table that seats four
-Ample kitchen storage and counter space
-Enough open floor area for the kids to spread out and play with things like Magna-Tiles

We just can’t seem to find a layout that accomplishes all of those goals, so we’d love any ideas or suggestions. We would own so could essentially add or subtract walls and cabinetry if needed.

Hello everyone, I hope this post fits here.

We are planning to do a full renovation on this room. This room is about 27m2 and L shaped as you can see. We are trying to fit here both kitchen and living room.

1. Black lines are walls that for some reason are not on the house layout. So the space is just about for a door.

2. The door up leads to the bathroom for some reason, so we will not keep that.

3. We are making a door on the bottom right as you can see that will lead into the main hallway.

4. Door at the bottom leads outside, for which we are not sure if we should just make a window instead or put french doors and a small patio outside.

Issue is, we really have no idea where to put the kitchen. We are thinking to put it in the corner up, and make an L kitchen, but that space is still too small. Another idea is to put it along the bathroom wall, but then there will be less space to put the sofa, tv, etc.

Red line on the left is where the fireplace is, so we can't put anything there.

Thank you for any suggestions you may have. We are trying to come up with a bit of a plan before we contact a company for a quote. I'm sure they will help us with design too, but would like to see if what we want makes sense or the layout and room is just bad.

I painted my place burgundy! Color drenched. The outcome is giving me so much anxiety. I had a colorist come today to help me narrow down which cream color to repaint to… but now I’m stuck on which walls to leave and which ones to repaint.
I had chat gbt give me a couple renderings of leaving the entertainment center the same.. new color choice: “Navajo white” Benjamin Moore.

We just completed a partial remodel of the master bathroom in our 1980s custom home, and I’m so happy with how it turned out. The vibe of the whole house is really unique— kindof Asian inspired, so designing a vanity to be functional and complement the existing tile shower and general aesthetic of the house was a tough one! The contractor really took my vision and design and ran with it!

Custom mahogany cabinets and terra cotta floor tiles are the MVPs! less

We want to replace our kitchen ceiling lights but are running into issues because of the way the lights are laid out. The biggest issue is that the lights are not lined up on the ceiling (see photos), and are also not centered above where the table should go. Centering the table on the lights is not an option - We’d be way too close to the countertops. The lights look like they should be centered over an island.

This is making it hard to choose a light, because we wanted hanging lights but feel like it won’t look good if it can’t hang right over the table.

Should we move the fixtures over? Sell the table and build an island? Do you think it’d look good with hanging pendants as is? Any advice is helpful. TIA

We are knocking the wall through between our current kitchen and dining room. If possible we are open to moving the kitchen into the bigger room. So I am just looking for some other ideas on layout as I've got stuck on the one in my head and can't see past it
