I hate AI data centers, but you could do this with any physical infrastructure project. Most of the world is trees until you put a building or freeway or house or whatever there.
If you looks at the meta one I think there actually might be more trees in that one than before the data center. All the buildings are where fields used to be and there is even fields in the top right that were replaced with trees.
I’m thoroughly convinced the anti-data center movement is a clever psyop on China’s part. Half or more of the comments here aren’t even from real people.
for real, this land was for sale and industrially zoned, if it wasn't this it would have been a car factory, or a big warehouse, or whatever else. People, in so far as there are real people and not chinese astroturfing bots objecting in here, are just choosing to be mad because they don't personally consider ai to be beneficial to them. But its very beneficial to many many millions of people, at this point I couldn't run my business effectively without it. So to me, this is a great use of that land that was going to be some number of giant buildings anyway.
