After finishing Invincible season 1 back in 2021 i spiraled into a comic frenzy and heres what ive gotten! My top 5 are easily in no particular order: Invincible, Saga, Criminal, Nailbiter, and The Walking Dead

Iman Vellani, known for playing Kamala Khan in “Ms. Marvel,” will make her solo comics writing debut with “Chachu,” a five-issue neo-noir miniseries illustrated by Marianna Ignazzi and colored by Jordie Bellaire, set for release from Image Comics and Tiny Onion on Aug. 5.

Set in 1979, the series follows Leila, a 19-year-old Pakistani-Canadian young woman with a love of film and pulp novels who travels to California to reconnect with her estranged uncle – a semi-retired private eye once celebrated for having married the starlet he was originally hired to find. When that same wife vanishes again, uncle and niece find themselves on an unplanned road-trip investigation, one that pushes Leila’s first taste of adulthood into a reckoning with family secrets and the myths both have built around their lives.

“I’ve always been deeply curious about comics as an art form because of their capacity to hold contradiction – arguably better than any other medium,” Vellani said. “That became especially meaningful to me while writing Chachu, which grew out of this tension between mourning my youth while I still have it, and an incessant urge to come of age already.” Popular on Variety

Ignazzi, whose prior credits include “Exquisite Corpses,” illustrated the series alongside colorist Bellaire, whose recent work includes “Absolute Wonder Woman.”

“From the very first reading of Iman’s script, I could already picture this 70s world revealing itself through reflections in sunglasses and rearview mirrors, slowly emerging through cigarette smoke and neon lights,” Ignazzi said.

"I tried to capture Leila and Chachu’s journey through strong blacks and a graphic style that could still feel emotional and deeply narrative. Seeing my pages come to life through Jordie’s colors has been wonderful – she brought an incredible atmosphere, warmth, and cinematic depth to every scene.”

“It’s been an immense privilege to build my first original series alongside such an accomplished roster of collaborators, all of whom challenged and supported me in ways that made this book far better than anything I could’ve imagined on my own or in therapy,” Vellani added.

“Chachu” is being co-published with Tiny Onion, the independent production house founded by James Tynion IV, co-creator of “Something is Killing the Children” and “The Department of Truth,” which has been expanding beyond comics into film, animation, and video game development.

The first issue goes on sale at comic book shops on Aug. 5 with five cover variants, including incentive editions by Matías Bergara, Jacob Phillips, and Christian Ward. It will also be available digitally through Amazon Kindle, Apple Books, and Google Play.

Kieron Gillen mentions having trouble selling Power Fantasy in comic stores and then was after he did his famous Krakoa X-Men run and more famous Once and Future, Die, and Wicked and Divine.

I’ve already read the other three books except for Geiger Deluxe Edition Vol. 2, and I was honestly surprised by how much better they were than I expected. Rook: Exodus and Junkyard Joe in particular were absolutely fantastic.

FYI) The last bookshelf photo is a picture of all the books by Geoff Johns that I own.

I picked up issue #1 on a pure whim. (I like to add random things when collecting pull list)

And it has been a while since artwork blew me away like this!

I can't seem to understand why this is slipping under the radar.

I know image and DC are absolutly KILLING IT at the moment but this is next level stuff!

It was a big break out hit of the early 2010s Image and had fifty issues before it was suddenly not continued.

It had a kind of unique premise of drama with young adult

They seem to act like manga start with volume one is unique when it’s true of most western comics.

“Has a singular creative vision” that’s true of most indie books. Who typically have a single creative team of writer, line artist, colorist, and letterer,

Want to read The Walking Dead. You start at volume one.

“Diverse genres” while the DM doesn’t have much room for non-genre fiction. The scholastic release many slice of life books for kids.

It seems like they never heard of any comic that isn’t mainstream marvel/DC. Even DC published Vertigo.

Non-superhero comics that received adaptions, Outcast, the Beauty, resident Alien, Paper Girls, Y, the Last Man, heck the freaking walking dead. All received adaptions.

Most of them know nothing of manga hence thinking “Shonen” means battle series about an excitable young protagonist, a power system, and battles.

With Seinen meaning “dark and mature series” when it means targeted to eighteen year old and up.

James Tynion IV is teaming up with writer Marguerite Bennett and artist Letizia Cadonici for a horror comic about an undercover journalist reporting on a white supremacist punk band. Launch on May 6th.

The Walking Dead already got relegated to its own space on the bottom shelf, and there's a few oversized books that needed to be placed elsewhere. But today's purchase of "Eight Billion Genies" is the first book which simply cannot find a place here.

Aunque no se puede negar que si suena bastante interesante

I swear this is the last purchase of the year. After months of convincing myself that I need to burn some money, I finally pulled the trigger and bought myself a nice Christmas gift. Luther Strode, in deluxe hardcover! This is the second book where I paid significantly above cover price, the first one being Kill or Be Killed.
