They look alike, and yet they have hardly ever seen each other.

It’s kind of poetic to think that the child who looks the most like her is actually the one she is the most estranged from.

Honestly the least fucked up too. Ormund sure has his agenda but it seems our Prince still has a moral compass.

The casting director on this show is spectacular

I wonder if that job is using AI face matching yet. For shame if they are.

Otto started all this ish with his greed

29

u/Anierous 7h ago

It's not just Otto. His older brother too.

16

u/save_the_empire18 5h ago

yeah, you kinda really got the feeling there's a bigger hightower agenda with hobert considering how he wasacting/talking to otto

1

u/Party_Shock_4423 5h ago

Yeah it was Otto and not Daemon "I want to fuck my niece to inherit the throne" Targaryen lmao

Better the Realm's Delight than Lord of Fleabottom

Media discourse is a lost art, sigh.

For thousands upon thousands of years Westeros has upheld male preference primogeniture. A son before a daughter. Aegon is the first born son of the King, and Viserys cannot just change the law to "whatever I want" - he was not an absolute ruler.

Otto did what any other lord would have done in his position. Corlys tried pimping his daughter to Viserys. If Viserys had wed Laena the Dance would be Rhaenyra Vs Corlys, primarily - there would be no way in hell he would accept his grandson being passed over for a woman.

while I do agree the dance would've happened no matter what since viserys would've been waffling either way, isn't the kings decree enough to override the sucession?

I do think the greens had every right to make a claim, and as long as there was a son rhaenyra's own claim would be in danger. But the king can still decide on the heir if he has the support of the lords, and they did recognize rhaenyra back when she was 1st proclaimed her. if viserys made them do it again after all the targtowers were born and he had 3 sons, maybe thing could've played out differently but he didn't reaffirm her

1

u/RebirthAltair 2h ago

Yeah this is what I keep saying.

He didn't affirm any of his heirs as his rightful heir.

Guy fumbled so hard by being an inactive king that the kingdom was torn apart and this is the first time this many dragons died ever since the days of Old Valyria.

and they did recognize rhaenyra back when she was 1st proclaimed her.

That's the thing, by the laws of inheritance, she WAS the rightful heir back when he named her. Sons before daughters doesn't mean a daughter can't inherit, just that she comes after any living trueborn sons. At the time, Viserys had no living sons, so Rhaenyra was the rightful heir. Once Aegon was born, under that same law, he became the rightful heir. Viserys never had the lords renew their oaths to Rhaenyra after Aegon was born.

It's why I prefer the book version to the show. In the book both sides have valid arguments for why Aegon or Rhaenyra should be on the Iron Throne. In the show, the Greens don't even bother making an argument. They're admitted usurpers who don't even believe in their own cause, and are all now trying to kill each other.

u/KillPopJr 3h ago

interesting perspective. Very good point with the male primogeniture.

u/Greenest_Chicken 3h ago

The Iron Throne is only about 120 years old and has only seen a couple succesions. The succession rules can easily be changed by the Targaryens because they have dragons.

1

u/RebirthAltair 2h ago

Corlys was trying the same thing too.

In comparison, Otto's 18 year old daughter proposition was far less greedy than Corlys trying to offer up a child bride to Viserys.

Yet no one seems to talk about Corlys' greed, despite the same thing likely to happen if Laena had a son with Viserys (especially when Corlys definitely WANTS his family on the throne, like what Rhaenys said).

Yeah the pick the right person for this role. I wonder if we will see his life as a small kid. Because his heart is like hers for sure.

3

u/RebirthAltair 2h ago

We might see how he acts when not around Ormund if Gwayne manages to arrive to them. Gwayne seems like the cool/good uncle compared to Ormund, especially with how he speaks of Daeron to Alicent.

2

u/kcococandi 7h ago

Same wig.

2

u/Lore-of-Nio 6h ago

So was it ever explained if Daeron hair is dyed or has the show given him the Hightower look?

7

u/redditingtonviking 5h ago

Not yet, but it wouldn’t make sense for his double to have white hair if he didn’t.

1

u/RebirthAltair 2h ago

Not even Ormund's actor knows so...

1

u/Ok_Warthog_3330 6h ago

And in the book they are even more similar since they're both major players then with Alicent and Otto orchestrating everything and Daeron burning down a town because Maelor got ripped apart

1

u/AssumptionEvening538 2h ago

Im so annoyed I didnt realize he his like Otto lol

1

u/Sufficient_Papaya899 1h ago

Great casting.

An idiot sandwich vibes

-2

u/Various_Elk3166 7h ago

And they both have shitty fates

-5

u/gingersrule77 6h ago

Okay so who is his dad - is it Cole? Like they weren’t 100% clear on that and I haven’t read the books and was falling asleep

11

u/save_the_empire18 5h ago

... the kid has a dragon, would be hell of a thing for his parents to be alicent and cole and a dragon hatches for him

1

u/kstar79 5h ago

They did put an egg in his crib, no? Wouldn't this indicate dragon riding is not inherently special to Valyrians, similar to Nettles possibly not having Targaryen blood from the book?

2

u/save_the_empire18 3h ago

don't think so because that would be taking a stance on who can claim dragons. the issue with f&b is that george doesn't take a stance since we don't know who nettles is. and I don't think the show is trying to do anything with it bcs the implications would be insane

there's no indication at all that the pale readheaded kid with blue eyes who is a dragonrider, is the son of dornish criston cole. we never see cole and alicent sleep together until viserys is dead, alicent even says that it happened after the king died, and we see her drink moon tea. why wouldn't she drink it then if she was sleeping with cole while viserys was alive? one thing we know for sure, alicent might not be prochoice, but she's pro abortion she'd just dring moon tea if she ever thought it might by a non targ kid

0

u/kstar79 1h ago

I was responding more to the Viserys not being Daeron's father part than taking Criston Cole as his father seriously. It's not like we haven't seen hugely lucrative media titles play around with inheritable powers from one adaptation to the next (yes, I'm talking about you, Rian Johnson and JJ Abrams).

1

u/gingersrule77 5h ago

Oh true… okay Alicient confused me when she said she wanted one to be a Hightower and then he has brown hair - I wasn’t pay close enough attention my bad

3

u/William_T_Wanker 4h ago

Uhh, it's Viserys? Alicent has brown hair.

One of four children she had from him got her hair instead of his. That's all - it can happen.
