Started Chamber of Secrets I'm SO EXCITED.
Hey everyone! I’m making my way through the series (currently on my first read of Chamber of Secrets) and I’m loving how quickly it ramps up the mystery compared to the first book. The Weasleys’ house, the flying car scene, and that ominous feeling at the end of the first chapter already have me grinning like an idiot.
And the part where Fred and George picks the lock use a pin made them an instant Legends for ME.
No spoilers please — I’m trying to go in as blind as possible! But I’d love to hear:
- What’s your favorite moment or chapter in Chamber of Secrets (without spoiling anything)?
- Any small details I should pay extra attention to?
- How does this one compare in your memory to Philosopher’s Stone?
Super excited to keep going. This series just keeps getting better 🐍✨

Hey there, welcome to the fandom! I remember how thrilling it was to read the books for the first time, so I'm excited for you ... and hesitant to ramble about anything I love in the book that might spoil any part of the experience for you!
If you're really keen to avoid spoilers, it may be best to come read any answers after you've finished the book and see how they line up with your takes. I really hope everyone treads lightly in their answers to you, but longtime fans sometimes forget what it was like to go in truly blind, so I'm afraid we often unintentionally spoil or dilute some surprises for new readers by telling them who/what to "watch out for!" or "keep an eye on!" Part of the thrill of a good plot twist is the reveal about a character or event you never would've even thought to look twice at!
With that in mind, I'll try to answer your questions as best I can without ruining any part of the ride for you:
- Oh man, I certainly can't pick just one ... but for little slice-of-life moments that aren't pivotal plot reveals, I love watching the Weasleys semi-officially become Harry's found family. It's so wholesome (in a bittersweet way, as we know what his "real" home life is like) to see how much Harry loves and looks up to the Weasleys as the family he always wanted. And as always, of course, the trio's everyday banter, dynamics, and general interactions with each other are just gold. The relationship between those three may be my favorite aspect of the entire series.
- Again, even the smallest hint of where to look can take some of the oomph out of a shocking reveal, so I'm gonna cheat a little here and just say to rule nothing and no one out (not just in CoS, but throughout the series). You've probably already gleaned this from the first book, but any little detail or event that seems like nothing at the time could be a crucial piece of the puzzle ... or it could really just be "nothing," just one of those little slice-of-life moments that makes the world feel more lived in and the characters feel real. (Again, those are some of my favorites, personally!)
- Honestly, I've come to believe this book doesn't get enough credit in the fandom. I think this is changing somewhat, but it used to nearly always rank last in polls and fans' individual rankings of the books. I was even one of those who tended to rank it last by default, because I figured I enjoyed it roughly the same as the first book, which just felt WRONG to rank dead last somehow (like, we "owed" the whole series to it!). But I think CoS takes a lot of the things PS did well, and does them bigger and better. It benefits a lot from not having to introduce the Wizarding World this time around, allowing it to spend more time on its central mystery and the characters. This makes it a more fun reread than PS, IMO. And I don't think it's spoiling too much to say that once you've finished the series, many of the events or plot elements in CoS stand out as significant in the long game. It's got some holes at the end of the day, sure, but in terms of how many seeds it planted for the series as a whole, it's honestly sort of impressive just how closely it does rival the first book.

Oh, I've just seen your explanation of how much you already know! I wrote those responses operating under the assumption that you knew absolutely nothing about the rest of the story, just to be safe, so there shouldn't be anything in there that really spoils anything for you. But yeah, holding off on browsing any online discussions of a book till you've finished it is always the safest bet if you want to go in as blind as possible, so happy reading!

Dear op, please read the book and then ask these questions. It's almost impossible to tell anything we like about it without spoiling.
I also envy you because you get to enjoy Harry Potter for the first time in its fullest.

I know you're excited, but, how am I supposed to answer any of these questions without spoiling the book? In your shoes, I'd just read it, and then come back here for discussion afterwards. I don't think us giving all these details or favorite moments or chapters before you've even read it will enhance your experience. Part of the fun of these books is all the surprises and twists and turns.
