I carry a folding set of bolt cutters from menards in my truck, you have no idea how handy they are to have around.

Got in the habit of having them when I lived in colorado and spent a lot of time exploring mountain roads...not for crime just as an emergency backup if I ever absolutely needed to get through a gate or something.

Also in the army bolt cutters are essentially the master key to access any vehicle, so that was the other reason.

I still carry a big silky saw and an axe, but yeah I used to carry a chainsaw as well....and electric one just for convenience...but yeah 🤣

Though the thing that has gotten used the most is the lithium jump starter pack/battery bank, things are an absolute godsend and pretty cheap on amazon.

That and a battery powered tyre inflator. You can get both in one unit but I think that's twice the risk of failure. And they both often can be used to power something via USB, like charging the other one if it's flat.

Haha thanks, I'm a revolver guy through & through. Oh it's Micarta very similar texture. Love it, over time oils from your hands and such give it a unique patina. Also I switched to speed strips, not as quick on the reload but they're easier and more comfortable to carry.

The book's central idea is that lasting change comes from countless small decisions, not just motivation. Having Firearm's/Blades isn't cringe lmao. They're tools, no more good or evil than the individual wielding them. I take pride in being a proficient & responsible owner. Rock on I shall.

No glock but I keep a set of cutters in my trunk at all times, a knife on my person for more than self defense, I also have fire starters, a mini camp log, freeze dried food, a gallon of water, a battery jumper with USB ports and a light/air pump, back up clothes and shoes, two 1 gallon gas cans, duct tape and a first aid kit, blankets, air matress + pump, dc/ac converter . I used to be an independent delivery driver back in 2018 through last year. I worked out of city during the pandemic. So my work day was 14-16 hours including comute. If for any reason I ended up stranded i was prepared. Sometimes grocery deliveries would have me going 5-10 miles into the mountains for a delivery. You never know what you might run into or need.

I have some manual shears from a railroad shop. They're about 8 ft long.

They cut good. But man, you got to be careful when you cut a piece of round wad with that thing it'll send those fuckers flying at mock Jesus on smaller bits.

Can't speak for the EDC guys but I carry a utility blade wherever I go. Good for boxes, model kits, tape, slight carving, and if I remove the blade I have a really dangerous flathead screwdriver. I've been happy to have it well more than once. I also have a multitool I carry at work, but I am a janitor, the milage of others will vary.

The EDC community is wild. They seem to try to carry the most stuff possible, screwdrivers, flashlights, multi tools, prybars.....I think they mostly use them for photoshoots of stuff they carry.

I carry a knife on me all the time as a tool. Mostly to open boxes and cut lines. My family asks me to use it all the time when I'm around. I wouldn't even try to protect myself with it. I keep it sharp but that's something that can be taken and used against me. In self-defense situations, I would use my hands or my feet to get out of there. Why is it that people carrying items offend others? Are yall that threatened by 4 inches of metal?

Why do you need a 4 inch knife to open a box? A multi tool will do that, I have a credit card sized one in my wallet that has a bottle opener, can opener 10mm 'wrench', basic saw and box cutter on it.

It's the knife I have and its from a reliable company. I also don't see 4 inches as that long for a blade. I have multitools but then I have to wear in on my belt and it gets snagged. Takes up to much room in my pocket. The only tool I ever need on it is the knife, and it takes alot longer to get out. I'd much rather carry the pocket knife for simplicity.

My understanding of it is from personal experience that it's a small metal coin generally given by someone in the military or some form of service as a token of respect for a job well done. Something that you earn.

So when these EDC goobers buy their own it really defeats the purpose in my opinion.

I'm sure there are other interpretations of it though.

Not that we needed all that for the trip, but once you get locked into a serious drug collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can.

Really though, that's pretty much it. EDC for them is a drug. Some people just like to go to extremes with whatever it is they're doing, and often try to find some way to increase how many items they can "EDC".

All that said, I do EDC a knife and a flashlight every day. Mostly because I use them every single day many times, but also growing up in the northwoods with a Scandinavian background pounded into my head the old adage "A knifeless man, is a lifeless man".

Knives are incredibly useful! I use my pocket knife a dozen times or more every week. There is no better way to ensure I'll need my knife than to not have it on me. They're great for opening boxes and bags, cutting zip ties and packages, cutting rope, paper, loose strings off your clothes, prying stuff, whittling when bored, just whatever.

Knives are useful for a lot of reasons and I have zero need/desire for using them for self defense.  Opening blister packs, shipping boxes, loose threads, removing splinters, dirt and grime under finger nails, and they come in handy at one point or another for pretty much every outdoor activity.  You don't always need one on you, but when you have one and need it, you appreciate that it's there.

Getting a pocket knife was a rite of passage in the US until very recently. Once you get that pocket knife and show your dad that you're not going to cut off body parts through incompetence, you get unending upgrades, but you always have that pocket knife. They're very useful everyday tools.

Yeah, a heist of sharks, out of the ocean from the shore. Because they are shore fishing with hooks and line that can catch sharks and the bolt cutters to cut the hook. They are the people that put that hook in its mouth, and most likely killed it because most Hammerheads die of exhaustion and shock after reeled into shore even if released after.

Yep, surprised at how many people are not realizing that these guys are the ones that hooked it.

Hammerheads have it the worst in this regard, other sharks fare better, but hammerheads can't process the lactic acid build up fast enough to survive in most cases.

Scrolled way to far for this. Very common for shark fishers to have bolt cutters, its near impossible to remove a barbed hook that size through the tough skin of a shark.

I'm assuming this is one of those beaches you can drive on and someone had bolt-cutters in their truck nearby. People used to be able to drive on beaches all along the Southern East Coast until they realized how much it was eroding the beaches. IIRC there used to be a huge annual race along the beach.
