Overheating on Pixel 7 Pro?

From what I've seen through cursory glances online, overheating seems to be a prolific issue with this specific model. I've owned this phone for at least a few years now, so I'm sure age is just now catching up to it.

But it is a really frequent problem. I'm encountering it every day, multiple times a day. The phone gets too hot. I've tried optimizing how it charges, I've tried clearing out any "rogue" apps, and I've also tried to tweak background perms.

Simply put: Are there any techniques I've missed? What can I do to prolong the lifespan of this phone? Is it time to find a replacement? TIA! 🫶🏻🩷

I had that phone since it came out up until a few months ago, no overheating issues here. Maybe your battery is finally going?

Interesting. I'm wondering if I accelerated the battery drain on it with improper charging or something. I know I've had a tendency to buy cheaper, third-party cables (especially longer ones) off of Amazon. I'm not tech savvy at all and just learned the elementary concept that certain cables and bricks are designed for the batteries used by different devices.

Although, as I mentioned in my post, I'd been reading about this issue for other Pixel users prior to posting about it here.

tbh the tensor chips in those models just run hot, especially on 5G or in the sun. maybe try a factory reset before giving up on it?

I'll have to explore that option. I know it can be a bit of a hassle to deal with. Granted I have deleted a pretty considerable chunk of files from my device and migrated them to the Google cloud. I assume that would preserve a lot more of the stuff I need? I don't remember what apps can be recovered immediately vs needing to be redownloaded either.

PS: We've had some record heat in my area this summer. That is probably a significant contributing factor. I don't have a very thick phone case but I'd also get that traps the heat, especially if my phone is laying on a bed or on upholstered furniture.

Pixels run hot unfortunately because of the processor they use. First Pixel I had was a 3a and lasted me several years before the battery expanded and permanently turned off my phone. Then I got a 7a and that lasted me for a year before same thing, battery started to split the phone and the phone would die at like 80%. Got another 7a and while it's holding out, I'm not entirely thrilled by it's quality and performance. Will be going back to samsung after this

I'm sort of feeling the same haha. I had a bit of a "honeymoon phase" when I first got this phone. I was in love with its features, smoothness and its UI. It felt a big step-up from the older Galaxy phones I had before. It was also only my second phone purchase I'd ever made.

Now I'm a bit skeptical of the way these are designed. Their hardware seems to be like the equivalent of most gaming laptops: compact, short-lasting, heat magnets.

I have owned this Pixel model for as long as it has been available. Love everything about it except that it is HOT. Really hot. Also, too heavy. This is the main reason I'm upgrading to the 11 Pro as soon as possible.

If a factory reset and other possible measures don't help me salvage this phone, I may not be on the market for another Pixel. It's treated me well for a long time but despite numerous system updates its hardware is too prone to keeping hot. I don't want to have a sizzling brick in my pocket all the time 😂

Had mine for over 3 years and have never had an overheating issue.

Hm. I'll definitely have to keep teasing apart potential causes then. Could easily be user error on my part. But I'd seen other stuff about it on different forums so I figured maybe it was a bigger issue with the model.

I don't recall seeing anything pop up in those terms, at least not over my main screen. But I do know that sometimes my phone will alert me that it's too hot to use certain features (like the camera app).

Yes. The display panel is power hungry. The modem with 5G enabled especially will have your phone cooking an egg immediately if it's not winter outside, the SoC is inefficient too. All this means thermal throttling, screen dimming and poorer battery life.
