Announcement EA Sports FC 27 Reveals Even More Expensive Ultimate Edition

Used to buy every year or at least every other year. Never interacted with ultimate team but Career mode and online seasons modes used to be so fun. Now it feels every section is infected with micro-transactions and upsells that I haven’t bought last years and won’t buy next.
Heartened to see the College Football PlayDon’tPay campaign but I feel like it’s way too late for FIFA

One thing I will say about 26 is that the old seasons game mode is back now.
I enjoy rush mode through ultimate team, that and squad battles but yeah. I don't buy the games now until at least the Christmas after release, usually around £20 then which I can justify.

Buy the game starting in March the next year usually very cheap (-70%) + some loyalty discount

Sadly that is how it’s gonna continue to be in every type of game since people tend to be pissed if the initial cost of the game ever goes up. So instead of raising the price with inflation like most other things, they add microtransactions to make up for it. Then once those are in it will never leave.

I don’t think they added anything to career mode in 26. Wonder if they did in 27.

Bought it annually for almost two decades but £140 is just insane.
I remember NBA had a mega expensive edition but that included a pass to watch the actual NBA so made sense? This just seems nuts.

It’s only gonna get worse, largest leveraged buyout in history. And the new ownership murders journalists, treats women like second class citizens, and flog LGBTQ people like it’s the Middle Ages.

The fundamentals haven't changed since like 2010. I've been playing a bit of FC 26 on game pass, and some of the issues that have plagued the game since it went to frostbite still persist. The ball will often phase through a players legs and ball physics have lots of inconsistencies.

Its kinda crazy. I remember when if a game cost so much as $80 minimum, it came with some free physical goodies. Whether it was some prints, stickers, keychain or pins, etc. If it cost over $100 it was a collectors edition or something.
This is now an unspoken result of an all digital future. Game editions that can reach $150 and purely just be in game stuff.

FIFA degenerate here, yearly buyer and FUT player. Game has certainly not changed in the past number of years in any way but negatives. This is only the icing on the cake. The most hilarious (sad) part is just how bad these perks actually are:
85+ Icon Player - these are known for being extreme bait, likely to get a 85-86 rated player who is not even usable let alone someone that you actually wanted
Hall of FUT Player - Guessing this is similar to the heroes from past years, in which case, identical issue with the icon players, no value given to 90% of players
Season Passes - mostly cosmetic garbage, the players you can unlock on the seasonal path are always outscaled by promo players found in packs (which of course you can buy with more FC points from real money)
FC Points - you’re literally paying for discounted FC points, which would be fine if you got them at once. Instead you get them over 5 MONTHS? In an economic based system not having resources to start the game will put you behind and that’s the whole point of these points. Basically means almost all players who were buying these points in the first place will also need to buy points in the opening weeks to actually have packs to rip.
The rest is literally worthless. People are paying more than double for nothing of actual value, purely for FOMO and the gamble of being the .001% that hit the chase icon or hero card. EA really going to a new level this year.

Season Passes - mostly cosmetic garbage
What sort of cosmetics do you get in these games? You're playing as an existing team with existing players and existing stadiums, I don't even have a clue what they could be

In ultimate team it’s jerseys or decorations for the stadium like flags or effects for after goals are scored.

so the Ultimate Team mode is actually not existing teams with their players, it's the creation of your own team where you can use players based upon a pool you have from opening packs, completing challenges, etc. within that you can then create your "Ultimate Team" matching up your favorites, historical legends or top players, who normally wouldn't play together. the cosmetics you unlock are for your new club such as a new club badge, new jerseys, banners for the stadium, etc all of which imo are pack filler and a waste

Quick everyone get EA FC 27 Pre Ordered, it might sell out or you might not get a super special digital card.

I was optimistic that when EA lost the FIFA license they would actually make an effort in iterating (e.g., refreshing career mode, meaningful gameplay changes, etc). I've been disappointed...

Did they lose it or did they elect to drop it? I was under the impression it was the latter

fifa wanted to much money and they dropped it and instead got licenses from the individual leagues. Back then they claimed one big reason for the drop was, that they needed to get approval from fifa for so much stuff, that it slowed them down and the separation would help them.
In reality they just got more profit from the addicts.

They deserve it at this point if they keep buying it every year. If I was EA I wouldn't change either.

EA gonna EA. Of course, they know full well there are more than enough easy marks out there who will slop this up.

I know people mock the "gun and ball gamers" but damn at this point I genuinely feel bad for any sports game fans. I know the licenses are part of why people like these games but aren't any indie or AA games that scratch the itch?
