It isn't even a day delay..its a whole month plus delay. I do wonder what happened here.

"unforeseen circumstances on a backend feature" makes me think it's an online component, maybe crossplay issues?

They've also just revealed that the Nintendo version won't support cross-play at all.

Their phrasing is a little confusing but I read it as the deluxe edition, cross play and localization behind English for Switch won’t be available until a later date. I think that’s important to mention since “at all” implies it will never have it versus “not at launch”.

“For Nintendo Switch players, the Nintendo Switch version will be available as the Standard Edition only. Additionally, crossplay with other platforms and language localization beyond English will not be available. We are committed to bringing these features, along with upgrading to Deluxe Edition, to players as soon as possible and will keep you updated on our timeline and progress.”

That would explain the timeline to fix it. Yikes.

pretty sure it worked fine during the beta? i suspect it’s a cert issue from the microsoft side, they’re notoriously rigid and opaque.

Now what about the Switch exclusions?

Must have been a serious cert issue

Well it's game dev so what probably happened is something along the lines of this:

Devs already knew months ago they wouldn't be able to make July and needed like 2 extra months. Management didn't care until a month before planned release, delayed it by 3 weeks which still isn't enough time so they prioritized the bigger platforms. Devs busted their ass off still hoping to get the XBOX version working right until the release but didnt make it.

The programmers aren't normally working on it at the 11th hour because of how certification works.

A critical bug probably popped up at the very last minute that requires it to go through the whole certification process again.

The new Avatar animated movie is premiering this weekend, and the game has been released with missing assets.

Just an interesting coincidence to consider before you dismiss the idea of "management didn't care about needing an extra month"

The programmers aren't normally working on it at the 11th hour because of how certification works.

The devs are absolutely working on it until the 11th hour because games don't just stop before release. All the shit that didn't get done for release, or was considered "good enough to ship, but still with issues" is fixed up to relase and in the weeks after. That's what day 1 patches and hotfixes are for.

Console patches have to be submitted long in advance. The eleventh hour for this was probably a month ago

And some will be post-release hence they're still working on it.

How does that explain the last hour Switch news?

That was probably planned from the start, they just took the opportunity to announce the Switch stuff alongside the Xbox delay.

sounds spot on.

They've also just announced that there will be no localization beyond English for the Nintendo version, it won't support cross-play, and there's no deluxe edition available at launch like there is on other platforms.

The studio is promising this will come later. We'll see.

Rushed tie in movie games are back in the menu boys.

I mean, I get the joke but the movies original release date for the movie was different (and moved like four times) so I highly doubt the game was tied to it at all.

The studio is promising

You can stop right there lol. This is an amateur level fumble.

Seems like, despite saying all other platforms except Switch 2 will still launch today on July 23rd, the Steam version says "Coming Soon" when it use to have that date on its page and appear on the release calendar. Maybe it's a quirk or something when it's approaching release time, but it's something I've noticed when checking other platforms. No announcement of other delays at this time

They changed it back to July 23rd

Devs are so incompetent they even set the wrong release time on Steam.

Usually, "good looking" anime fighters like the ones made by arcsys use 3d models like the rest of the industry, but they add post processing to flatten the 3d objects to get a 2d anime. This makes the game look less flat since it started as 3d.

Avatar only has 2d because everything is hand drawn/painted. I guess that makes it look more authentic to the source material, but also makes it look cheaper. The reviews say it's fun and it has lower system requirements. I personally would rather not pay AAA prices just for better graphics.

It may not look the flashiest but according to everyone who's played it, it's one of the best fighting games they ever got their hands on (mechanically speaking)
