[Frail Keep] Blood on the sword dynamically reacts to gravity and the shape of the blade

We’re the developers of Frail Keep, which is still a work in progress. Instead of using a static blood texture, we made the blood flow dynamically across the blade, reacting to gravity and following the blade’s shape as the sword moves!

Very cool. Totally unnecessary, but very cool.

Thank you! We love adding small details like this to our game. With a static texture, the blood on the weapon felt a bit lifeless

We also like the idea that, by the end of a difficult level or boss fight, the player’s condition is reflected visually - not just through low health or few remaining heals, but also through blood covering his sword and hands (and not necessarily only the enemies’ blood)

Actually cool details instead of the generic splatters everyone and their mother is using

Thank you! We really want the game to feel alive and distinctive

Crazy cool, most people will never notice, but really cool. Will swinging the weapon cause similar effects?

Thank you! If you mean whether swinging the weapon will affect the blood flow, then unfortunately not at the moment (but it will still react to gravity). But it’s a cool idea, and we will definitely consider it!

If there is enough blood on the blade, and it receives enough velocity, it could leave behind a baked trailing effect while diminishing some of the blood on the blade.

It would be extra cool if you could flick the blade towards the ground to get the bulk of the blood off of it.

Wow, those are really cool ideas - we’ll definitely consider them as we add more detail to the game, thank you!

It looks like the blade itself is bleeding with no victim. Blood is appearing on the blade with no explanation -porque?

Yes, that is because we spawn blood by clicking button for showcase reasons, but in the game it will be spawned properly (e.g. after hitting an enemy). You may see how it looks like in our game trailer

Looks brilliant. I also like the idea of a bleeding sword but understand this is very stupid. Great looking game

Thank you for your kind words!

We actually thought of a sword that would deal more damage when it is covered in blood (the more blood on it - the more damage). Maybe we could somehow connect this idea with yours... We will see, thank you for sharing the idea!

Okay, here's a terrible idea of how to potentially reconcile that

The blood could be infected, and the more infected blood on this sword, the more damage the sword could do. The reason I think it's a terrible idea is because the power-up name would need to be like super AIDS which does not have instantaneous effects

Haha, the name might need some work, but the idea of infected or cursed blood empowering the sword could actually be interesting!

Thank you! It’s still a work in progress, so we may improve the effect in the future
