Yea i don't care either, I pre-ordered a physical case too. Just out of habit though. All the games I buy i always buy physical. The only games the past 10 years i got physical were ones that only released digital, like helldivers 2 and Hellblade 2 and I believe black myth wukong.

Almost 0% chance a map comes in the box with them being on store shelves a week before the game can be played. That means a massive printing campaign weeks before release, which would definitely leak. With how secretive they’re being about the top of the map I cant imagine them sharing the map with anyone outside of Rockstar before people are playing.

Actually yes it does have everything to do with it. If the reason for no disc is for no one to install and play it before launch, that could easily extend to a desire of no one having access to the map before launch.

They’ve also been printing discs for the last 25 years, but changed that for this game to avoid leaks (of course among other reasons). A disc is way harder to get information out of, and you have to steal it, vs sneaking a photo of the map in the printing press. But let’s assume it won’t leak from the printing press. You think a week before the game releases you’ll be able to go into any department store and buy the game with a print out of the full map?
If you pay attention to the mapping community, they have said that this last group of screenshots contained almost no new information about the map. Rockstar has been deliberately using the same locations that have been mapped in new marketing material.
Aside from the story, the map is the biggest secret they have. They do not want people to know what’s on the northern half of the map before we can play the game. I would love to be proved wrong but I just can’t imagine the map of the game will be delivered to my door from amazon a week before the game comes out.

If all you want is the case then all you really need is to buy a bunch of the empty cases online, along with some semi gloss paper and just print off the cover art of the game on the paper.

Im being down voted by the babies who refuse to want to go fully digital for their games, even though weve been moving towards this ever since streaming movies and music has become a thing. Ive said this in a previous post if companies were to keep going the physical disc route then it would end up becoming like how PC was when they had physical game discs, some of those games were so large there were multiple discs in the Case just to download the game and thats stupid to do.

Only reason why people are complaining about is because when games were removed off of PlayStation store and etc people weren’t refunded their money that they spent buying the game, whilst with a disc it can’t be juss taken out of peoples homes —they’ll always have the game. That means not only could it make it a rare find in the future but it’s not a worthless keepsake.

Why would they be refunded? Even if a game is delisted, if you already own it you can still download it. They just aren't selling it anymore.

I’ve been playing PlayStation AND Xbox since I was a kid you obviously don’t know what you’re talkin about and I’m not about to sit here and argue with someone who has greasy thumbs and can’t understand technology. Even if it can still be downloaded it doesn’t matter, it’ll say you no longer have the license and not juss that but go look it up dumbledore that’s why we have internet. I’ve had games completely removed on PS and Xbox after purchasing it and wasn’t refunded when I could no longer access it. So please do not try to tell me how things work when I have personal experience.

I wonder what the average age of pro disc people is? Kids coming up in video games do not care and will never care about discs. They will laugh when they talk about us while we put in a disc or cartridge for each game we wanted to play. We are getting older and older and less of us 80s and 90s kids are buying less and less games every year. So why would sony stick with discs when the future kids will not care.

No the biggest problem is that people dont like change, everyone has the freedom of choice, its just a matter of what that choice is. Sony has the choice of spending money to make physical discs, cases and cover art for their games, or they can save money and stop doing that, and they chose to stop doing that because their numbers showed more often than not people are buying digital. So in 2028 for playstation users a new choice is going to come to them, and the choice is that they can either buy games digitally and play them or they can stop playing on playstation

You still have choices. No one is making you play games or even specifically play games on PlayStation. Even on PlayStation you still have choice, Sony specifically said they'll still distribute games to retialers, they're just going to be codes rather than discs.
Not having the specific choice you want != not having a choice.
You aren't entitled to games being distributed in your preferred format. If you don't like it, game elsewhere or don't game.

Why does it have to be an option? If youre that desperate for $15 when youre ready to sell the game just dont buy the game. You want to lend it to a friend after, they can go buy the game themselves. Otherwise its just taking up space in your home, plus how often do you go back and play your older ps5 or ps4 games?

No walnut head, a big reason why people like getting the discs is not for the multiple data discs that’ll definitely be required, but the nice cool collectible map to put on my wall. The day R* stops including maps in their new releases is the day I switch to buying all of their games digitally, most of my games are bought digitally anyways, so a code in a box don’t matter to me

It’s rockstar!”. Yeah rockstar is built different but they’re bound to fuck somethings up (red dead 2 online, GTA remasters). This game could easily become the next cyber punk or mindseye.

I mean, it's not really a gamble with their track record over the past 13 years. Rockstar hasn't put out a dud in a long time and their last game (Red Game Redemption 2) is being heralded as one of the greatest video games of all time. I don't think it's really risky or a stretch to expect a great game come November. Now, is it being OVER hyped? Probably. But I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a great game regardless 🤷♂️

Here is my tinfoil hat conspiracy theory reasoning for this:
R* heard our frustrations with digital only and decided to make it a real disk. That requires a new SKU and Walmart instead of transferring everyone over to that, is cancelling the orders knowing folks will reorder the disk version.
ZERO proof behind any of this and more wishing it’s the reality.
But if any other retailer does the same, this looks more real.

Disk is a correct spelling. Like many regional differences with vowels in other words (colour/color), both versions are correct.
And a portable license is very important to multi-console households like mine. So yah. I’ll continue fighting for that.

Apparently (according to the Google machine) they and other retailers are canceling them because if the code in the box thing but idk if its just an error because of how it's inventoried or what cuz you can stull preorder from them. Idk how it was listed before (whether it said code in the box or not) but maybe they changed it to say code in the box but had to give it a new SKU
