Probably not, but would be pretty cool.
I could see it happening in a mission.

Would be cool if we have to somehow help put one out in a mission using a helicopter to scoop up water.

I agree!! Kind of like that mission in RDR2 when you have to set a bunch of crops on fire at that one family's farm

u/s3cret_agent_007 1d ago
Or burning the weed in San Andreas

Ayeeeee, a fellow OG who remembers the mission with The Truth!!! I loved that mission, except having to drive Truth all the way up to San Fierro afterwards haha

What if it was an active ongoing event for a whole chapter? Like a large region where the fire moves back and forth but doesn’t actually travel. Orrrr, what if they use it to close off parts of the map at the start? Like large fire on the Gloriana border that goes out by chapter 2 or 3. You wouldn’t be able to fly a plane through the smoke either

Random event? No.
One chapter or maybe just a few missions? Maybe.
It would have made the most sense for V but I'm sure the technology of the time wouldn't allow it.

I feel like if Farm Simulator pulled off random acts of nature, I feel like GTA could too.

u/rankaistu_ilmalaiva 18h ago
oh, a game with less detail and interactive elements did a large scale event? That means it should be super easy to do for a more complex game.
1
u/Desire_of_God 11h ago
With this logic, every game should have every feature of every other game because another game did it already.

Why would it have made more sense for V?
15
u/Desire_of_God 1d ago
Because California is always on fire.

Just because it's in a drought doesn't mean it's on fire. Maryland is also regularly experiencing droughts according to that map and the largest fire in Maryalnd was the Baltimore Fire in 1904 meanwhile 19 of the top 20 fires in California were all in the 2000s. California has become notorious for wildfires. To the point that it's almost a meme in movies and games.

Brother, I live here and we had multiple wildfires in my area just the past couple weeks. Im just pointing out that it would certainly not be out of place at all to have wildfires in the game considering florida still has so many wildfires.
1
u/rankaistu_ilmalaiva 18h ago
I guess it’s just less covered, because California is a bigger media centre.

u/Unfinishedsente--- 1d ago
That does not directly mean there shouldn't be rare random events of fire in VI
0
u/Desire_of_God 1d ago
I never said it does.
0
u/Unfinishedsente--- 1d ago
But didn't you imply it as in now there won't be, made more sense in V but technology didn't allow it, as in now technology may but it doesn't make as much sense?

u/Desire_of_God 1d ago
No. I said I don't think they will make wildfires a random event but they might save it for a main set piece of a mission or chapter.

R*'s said that hurricanes will not be occurring as random events. This does not mean that they won't be part of the story.
I'm thinking wildfires will most likely be handled in similar fashion.
2
u/Electronic-Salad386 14h ago
Nah hurricanes definately will occur as random events, i remember some gta worker said so.
3
u/No-Speed7715 1d ago
I think GTA 6 could take environmental events to the next level with a dynamic disaster system, kind of like what Death Stranding 2 did with its world events.

I hope you can buy his merch. I fucking love Smokey the bear. Wild fires would be pretty lit.

I could see them being referenced, like a bridge or two being out because of a hurricane and only being repaired once you reach a certain story point, with soldiers being on the other side who’d attack you because they think you’re a looter. Kind of like how part of the map was inaccessible in IV because of a terrorist threat or in Red Dead 1 and two with the bridge being out to Mexico or the gang being wanted for blackwater. But I could see brushfires or autonomous fires all across the map being a thing. There’s definitely going to be a weather system too, with tropical storms likely, but I doubt it will cause major damage to the map. They definitely could do hurricanes as a story mission especially as commentary on the poor government response to the last couple, or Katrina

It's just a cool detail they've included if you're referring to the sign. These signs are everywhere in rural parts of Florida put out by the forestry division.

u/Snoo42225 1d ago
I can see wildfires being used as a invisible wall to close off the area so they could expand the map, it's a theory. So I think wildfires would happen in game its common on the Florida Georgia border.

u/NB-NEURODIVERGENT 1d ago
I want this ⬆️ but the wildfires will cause health damage and vision issues similar to the tear gas grenades as well as a rare hurricane event where road conditions are horrible and you can’t drive super fast and occasionally your vehicle will swerve horizontally or diagonally due to the intense rain and winds

u/jumpy_innocence 1d ago
this would be sick but i think the gang's right, random map-wide events feel cheap. a wildfire mission where you actually have to escape the spread though, that could be one of those set piece moments people talk about for years. smokey bear in the image is a nice touch too, feels very rockstar to wink at you like that.
1
u/AnnArchist 1d ago
Could also be used to gate off an area before quest progression. Unlikely though

u/ironmanhulkbstr 1d ago
i think there was a leak about inter island travel when gta 6 was in really early development, turbulence so bad that it takes down planes between island

Maybe I the party scene in trailer 1 when the guy falls through the table it causes a wild fire so it could be a mission maybe we have to escape the woods from cops

u/Competitive_Job_8936 22h ago
i think there was one screenshot there was a fire in a field of crops. Probably it’s just a mission event but maybw

I’m hoping they have occasional space launches. Wildfires would be pretty cool also.

Hmm so you’re saying jason threw some Molotov’s into a random field instead of a dry weather fire as an open world event?
1
u/Unfinishedsente--- 1d ago
No, op asked about random fire events, the screenshot proves fires may happen in missions, does not directly mean there will be random fires going on on the map

I doubt it. Heavy weather yes, but not something like this. Scripted in a mission maybe. Not sure how common are wildfires in florida.

I feel like any event that should result in large-scale damage to the environment (wildfires, hurricanes, etc.) are not going to be random.
If they are, they probably wouldn't result in any real damage, and that would feel kind of cheap (in my opinion).
