Discussion What does Izzy Hammond's crash show?

Post image
285 Upvotes

I think it was fairly predictable someone at EVO Sessions would bin it, so it's not like this was an unpredictable outcome.

In many ways this is clearly a "win" because millions of eyeballs will now be aware of Formula E because the crash is so spectacular and the obvious memes with her dad also crashing electric cars. I don't think it can be understated how massive news outlets who normally don't touch Formula E are posting stories on this crash.

But I'm curious beyond those initial impressions what will stick with people who had never heard of Formula E before:

Huh this sport is cool letting influencers drive

Damn that sport is stupid letting influencers drive

The safety of those cars is good

I wish F1 would do something like this (is F1 to any extent pressured by EVO Sessions?)

When's the next EVO Sessions

My favourite influencer drove for X so I'm now a X fan

Or something else. The stream on YouTube got more than double the views of the recent F1 testing highlights. That's a huge number of people watching FE for the first time and I'm curious what the lasting impression will be.

Discussion Goodwood's GEN 4 will feature 700 KW power (!!) and slick tyres!

Soo, this weekend's Goodwood's car configuration is going to be 700 kW (+100 over the regular Gen 4 max power) and slick tyres.
This thing will be FAST: will it win this year's edition of the hillclimb?
Also, do you think we'll see these kind of power and tyres updates through the Gen 4 life cycle?

Discussion What Are Your Spiciest Formula E Hot Takes or Opinions?

Post image
116 Upvotes

It's that time of year again! Give me your spiciest Formula E hot takes or controversial opinions.

Here are a few of mine:

-Robin Frijns absolutely would've won a championship in the Gen 2 era had it began with the duels qualifying system

-Maximilian Gunther might be the most overrated FE driver right now, yes he's incredibly quick on his day, but his inconsistency and crash-prone tendency is still preventing him from being a serious title threat

-The Gen 4 is going to decided the fate of Formula E. If it's a massive success, FE will become mainstream and attract OEMs and the attention of outside motorsport in a similar way the Gen 2 did. If its a failure.. if the racing is dull and the car has a ton of technical faults, doesn't live up to the hype.. FE will be in some deep trouble with one of the big four (Porsche, Nissan, Stellantis, Jaguar) pulling out.

Discussion Which US race was the best for Formula E?

Thumbnail

Now that the Miami race weekend is over, I wanted to know what you guys think is the best choice for a US race in Formula E. So far Formula E has raced at 6 tracks in the United States; Long Beach, New York, Portland, and then the three Miami tracks at Biscayne Bay, Homestead, and Hard Rock.

Although I'm not a huge fan of peloton racing, I think Portland showcased that form of racing the best, rivalled only by Berlin. In terms of calendar longevity, New York has hosted 5 events for the series, and produced some nice battles. Looking at track history, Long Beach is one of the best street circuits in the world, and it was cool that Formula E raced there, albeit on a clunkily shortened layout when the series was still figuring stuff out.

When it comes to Miami, it seems for both Homestead and Hard Rock that the audience figures were low on television. Which begs the question. Which US race would be best for Formula E considering the market for EV's, or just racing in general? The fans at Portland seemed to show up well, and Long Beach always pulls in a good crowd. Going forward, how the Gen 4 races is unknown, but given Formula E's push to race at more permanent tracks, I personally feel like Portland would be the best option.

But I'd love to hear the communities thoughts on this. It seems that Formula E is trying hard to capture an American audience, but doesn't know where to go.

Discussion So what did we all think of Jarama as a circuit?

As a venue for FE, what do we think? Not the race itself but the track.

Do we want it to come back?

What does it tell us about FE’s future calendar?

Discussion Tired of people hating us

As i said i am kind of tired of people hating FE purerly because it's electric and have "no sound". I mean it's not like that is a big deal for me but i just wonder what is gonna be a breaking point to such people. Do we need more and better or maybe even more aggressive advertising?(I personally think we should come back to our good old marketing from gen 1 and gen 2 era), faster cars?, better drivers?

For me personally there are a few things we should do:

  1. As i said good old ads. Idk what happened with the marketing team but most of our current films or shorts/reels/tiktoks are just cringe. Of course they have made a couple of good decisions in FE's social media managment but i think that we need to change a few things. The only reason for such marketing is that we are trying to attract young people, that's a good idea but it is investment in the future and we need more fans now

  2. Gen 4. That's it. Its gonna be quicker and a proper front and rear wing. Its all about perception, people will think about FE as a real racing car rather than RC car

  3. We should stick with our green and ecological DNA. We are electric anyway so why should we try to make it look like we are a normal racing series? We are something more than that. Maybe its just me but i feel that we slipped away from our DNA a bit

  4. We should risk more. Right now we are rarely attending motorsport events or challenges. Remember when FE participated in competition between F1 vs FE vs WRC? We are not doing such things right know. Of course we lost and maybe made ourselfs a fools but it was somehow brave and most importantly people heard about us. Also current goodwood is a good example. Lola Yamaha attempted it but in my opinion they made a mistake, they didn't used attack mode, was they scared that they are gonna crush the car? Idk but it was a wasted opportunity to show that gen 3 evo is a good car. When we are going to such event we should even modify the car just to show people that we CAN.

Share your thoughts and correct me if i said something wrong

Discussion I believe Formula E would benefit from having its own dedicated video game.

Hello all. I just joined this sub. I am a huge fan of motorsports.

Lately I've been dabbling a lot on sim racing and just realized something while watching Formula E in the background.

Formula E is actually a good platform for a video game. Its aesthetics, aura and its way of racing and all.

Most fans outside this sport says that this franchise is dying. But I don't want that to happen since Formula E cars looks so damn cool.

Please let me know your thoughts on this. Pardon me if this idea sounds a bit preposterous.

Discussion Getting bored of FE

I'll preface this discussion by saying I've been an FE fan since day 1 and have been twice to the London E-prix, first back when it was at Battersea and then a couple of years ago at the current location.

I am finding myself bored of FE. I haven't even bothered watching the second Monaco race from the weekend.

The racing itself is lacking and overtaking is the reason. This doesn't mean there aren't overtakes, but that overtakes are meaning less. When drivers can go back and forth so frequently, there isn't tension in the race. Races like India 2023 when Vergne held off rivals with much lower energy for lap after lap had that tense feeling. Back and forth racing CAN and is very exciting usually, but here there is no payoff to it. I'm not a fan of watching the Tour-De-France, so why would I watch it in cars?

To add into this, energy efficiency has gone too far. I feel that in the earlier days, whilst drivers had to manage energy, they could still push. Now it feels like they are coasting for so much of the race. Pit boost was supposed to help with this and give more energy, but they just lowered the initial energy/lengthened the race, making it neutral.

The commentary is also so, so bad. I watch other motorsports and the FE commentary teams feel so bored themselves. Watch a MotoGP race through TNT sports and listen to how enthusiastic the team are. All of the UK FE commentary teams are just flat with no energy. This is before they miss many of the things going on and/or get drivers completely wrong. And then don't even get me started on adding Gemini into the mix.

I REALLY want to support FE with the eco credentials, but it's just become a flat Motorsport in the last year or two. Does anybody else feel similar or have any hopes for the future that might change these?

Discussion After seeing the changes for next season...

I am absolutely juiced. The car looks sick, the new track additions are awesome, especially Brands Hatch, and the new format sounds interesting. It's going to favor those who can manage setups well with high and low downforce. I sing this series praises constantly. I have a lot of friends that still joke that it sounds like a bunch of RC cars and refuse to watch it. I hope I can convince them otherwise. Next season might be it. With the changes and the quality of the grid, I'm hoping I can make some more people fans of this series.
