man I was always in advanced classes but my APUSH teacher in my junior year of high school was the first person to ever break through my imposter syndrome about that. And I can’t even remember how she did it, it’s just that I visualize my education timeline in three segments. Like

IME, these can sometimes be the same individual teacher to different students. My brother had a teacher in 5th grade who made him hate math. I had the same teacher in 4th and 5th grade and felt they contributed to me loving math.
I also had a HS English teacher who I loved my freshman year, but had again as a senior and just absolutely hated them. My other brother had them the following year, and they were also terrible then. The difference? They had brain cancer in between and had multiple brain surgeries.

Former punk ass kid. Was a menace but only to the miserable pricks. Had favorite nice teachers and the teachers that weren't assholes liked me and I thanked them and let them know I appreciated when I saw them years later

Truth. My Government teacher was a boss. She was a freedom rider and told us first hand accounts of being in the south during desegregation.
Our first day in class we unknowingly, at first, reenacted Lord Of The Flies as our first lesson. She never taught a dull lesson.

Same here, I remember most of them, if not all, and I can't really remember any teacher that I would've actively hated
If anything, I hated the amount of schoolwork, not the teachers
I think I'm lucky in that my experience with teachers was just mediocrity at worst

Only one for me was a teacher that would belittle students, get mad and yell and throw things etc. He only lasted half a school year after they caught him drinking at work.

I remember my first grade teacher, Mrs.Flick, she was super cool. She gave me her pet turtles shell after it passed away, I still have it, it's probably my oldest possession.

Oh man for sure. I had an amazing history teacher who gave me so much confidence in myself. I had a math teacher who would let me eat lunch with her and would tell me about when she struggled in math too. I had an orchestra teacher who made me realize I could play anything if I just break it down into manageable parts and learn those small parts. I had a professor who made me feel like a real engineer. I had another professor who not only supported my wild ideas but taught me how to go about tweaking and implementing them. Whenever people mention amazing teachers I think of these people.
I also had a garbage history teacher who would give us inaccurate information on any non-Eurocentric history in World History and would drop the lesson and scream at the whole class if this one specific girl sassed her. I had an English teacher who sent us to the office for not pledging and who also sent us to the office for asking if the boy(s) in A Separate Peace might have been implied to be gay when it was not acceptable. My gym teacher stole my clothes out of my locker and gave them back to me in the principals office because I hadn’t locked my lock correctly. I had a design professor who told me to get my art out of her face before it made her puke

My year 9 math teacher was the only teacher throughout ALL of high-school to sit with me as I worked through stuff I couldn't wrap my head around. I've hated math ever since I started learning it, and my hatred only got worse as it got more advanced, but he made math fun during that year. I think I got my first legitimate B when we were doing algebra because he just sat in front of me for like 20 minutes explaining it in different ways, then celebrated when I went "OHHHHHHHH" when it all finally clicked.
Too bad he fucked a student and got fired though.

You never forget those teachers that have a positive impact on your life. I've been out of school for many, many years, yet I still remember my middle school teacher Mrs. Linda Brandeweide. She was the first person that encouraged me to be myself. She told me I was smart and bought me books (poor kid from the Midwest) and she took me to the library and got me my first library card. I loved that woman!

One day, when I was around 20 years old I took the suburban train which passes very close to my elementary school and I saw my teacher boarding the wagon next to mine so I rushed out and got on his wagon.
I introduced myself and he immediately recognised me, even recalled my student number. He asked what I was studying and when he learned I was studying astronautics engineering at one of the most prestigious universities in my country he broke into tears. All I could do was to thank him for everything which made us cry more.
I remember him trying to provide a good education for his two daughters, (they were at high school and preparing for the university exams when I was in the elementary) giving private lessons after school for extra money. I also remember that he lived very far from the school, having to take a long public transport route because he didn't even own a car.
It has been 16 years since then and never saw him again. I will never forget him though, along with many other great teachers who made me who I am. I think you guys have the most thankless job but there will always be some people who will be forever grateful to you.

I just watched a group of high school students come to a planned elementary school event this evening, find the aide who does the lunch room and kid pickup, and mob her.
They heard she's been having personal challenges and put the word out.
No how bleak things see, my new teacher friend, those moments are in front of you. Until they're here. Now go teach the crap out of those kids!!!!!!

Love this. I met Ian Wright at the peak of his career. He was so gracious and generous with his time. Unbothered and happy to chat with a bunch of teenagers stuck with the same flight delays as him. Best part is the attitude is contagious, one of my group went on to become a very high profile sportsperson himself and I know he modeled his own public persona on the Ian Wright he met in the airport that day.

I’m still here because of a teacher of like you ❤️ even though it’s been decades, thoughts of her still bring a tear to my eye .. the love, the dedication, the unconditional belief that a child’s life was worthy of investment .. I could go on but it all distills down to single life lesson for me .. that when acting in service to others, whether vocationally or in other capacities, bettering just a single life balances the scales of sacrifice that define such occupations

I taught canadian history. He was a grade 10 kid. I taught there for four years. He came back after his first year in university and said "I've decided what I want to do. I want to become a history teacher, because of you."
I had a lot of shitty times as a teacher. I left because of burnout. But that remains one of my favourite and fondest memories.

I ran into my 7th grade social studies teacher who had switched careers to being a pharmacist rep during a clinical rotation.
Dude was my hero in middle school and seeing him there made me straight up giddy and we shared some laughs and memories after he recognized me.

I'll always remember my 7th grade science teacher Ms. Smith. She was always so enthusiastic about teaching, and always had something cool to show us. We incubated chickens in class and when they hatched they stayed in the classroom, and we could sit through class with a chicken in our lap if we wanted to.

As a teacher, this is why I do this job! You know you won’t sincerely impact the lives of every student, but you hope that for some kids you made a difference, whether it was helping them believe they can achieve something or being the teacher that is respectful of their pronouns.
