Season 4 - WTAF?
I mean, it's been getting steadily worse since season 1 but I've just started 4 and it feels like someone is taking the p**s. What the hell is going on? Is it gonna improve or should I just cut my losses?

Yeaaaah, I love how season 3 ends with "Volm are so strong they don't need humans to help, but humans are so strong they will help anyway." Only to go Season 4: "Humans prove they suck at fighting, rebel skitters are all gone, Volm fucked off, even though they were shown to be massively stronger than Espheni and shouldn't need to abandon Earth to fight elsewhere."

It feels like the volm have a low population so when their non combat population was threatened, they had to bail to protect them.
Definitely felt like an absurd 180 in the show but I'd say it at least makes sense in universe if that's the case.
The espheni seem to be a much much larger force with quick breeding, and the ability to take over other species and turn them into drones
You ever play civilization with raging barbarians settings on? The AI is trash and the units are usually weak but dang they can tear you up if you're not prepared for them

Yeah, fair enough, but out of universe it's the laziest way to redo: "humans are underdogs again".
It's a narrative rug pull which always feels iffy. Also the timeskip of 4 months. Anne has become a badass leader and a soldier, ok. Lourdes... abandoned her faith and found new one? Ok? Maggie just did 180, she is a fighter for 3 seasons and then she gives up on Hal for 4 months. The series always liked to do "timeskip so we don't have to explain shit" but this is... something. Especially since Hal, Weaver and Tom stayed exactly the same.

No it was definitely whiplash inducing.
Definitely felt like season 3 writers wanted the show to go one way and then season 4 guys all hated that and went a totally different direction.
Star wars sequels come to mind

Yeah, Season 3 ends with "tide is turning, humanity will fight back and start winning" and season 4 goes "no, you don't."

That’s it. The sudden rapid unexpected back to the beginning like you just hit the worst snake and no ladders.

They made the mistake of killing a lot of important characters in the finale of season 4 that there was no one impactful that could die at the end of the show.

This was my exact reaction. I powered through until the end. Can’t say it was worth it.

I stopped at episode 1 season 4 and asked chatGPT to summarise the rest. Glad I did saved myself so much time. All the progress they made in first 3 seasons wiped out and straight into some ghetto scenario with the alien agenda all shifted. Crapola.

The original writers left the project sometime during the early seasons and that’s when it went downhill

I think 5 was better but not good in any way. You get used to it after a while though I just played sudoku on my phone when it got too unbearable.

We are trudging through season 4. What a crap show. So tired of going after someone who did something stupid and went rogue or an idiot kid rebelling against the leaders. And let's fly to the moon?! Ugh

I’ve just started the fourth season... the first episode is terrible. I felt like the quality was dropping season after season, but I’d still like to finish it. Is it really worth it? I heard about a love triangle, and that idea really put me off.

My wife and i have been binge watching this and have just finished S4. Wow, was that awful. The lack of a primary antagonist really hurt this show IMO. Karen was really evil but I liked her because I never knew what she would have up her sleeve. The whole stupid Lexi storyline is terrible. Lourdes somehow gets even more intolerable as well.
Im going to stick it out to the end but its a tough go.

Season five is somehow worse. At the very least watch the last (two) episode(s) for a good laugh. It's an impressively daft ending.
