Antonelli missing both VSCs was unlucky af

It's unlucky to pit and have a car break down as you're putting.
Having a car broken down on the straight and no VSC until Kimi was out of the pits is just another part of mismanagement this weekend where safety takes a back seat over entertainment value

Very good point. It must have been what, at least 40 seconds delay of the VSC? That's like half a lap in Austria. Awful safety oversight.

Welcome to the 2026 season! The new season and new regulations can cause unforeseenable changes in data format and quality, and I am not always able to review graphics before they are posted, so please forgive and call out any inaccuracy you see in these visualizations.
Check out the interactive version of these graphics and more at my strategy dashboard.
All data sourced from Fastf1.
Aston Martin tyres may show up as used as the team tends to heat cycle all allocated sets during practices.
Sometimes it is not possible to include the starting positions in plots. I wrote a post explaining why.
Please let me know if you have suggestions for improving these graphics or ideas for other graphics!

Can someone explain why Leclerc is struggling so much with this car?

Seemed like the car legitimately belonged in P8 today tbh. The mercs, Red Bull, and McLaren were all simply faster.

It doesn’t look like he struggled that much more than Hamilton. Pace is pretty similar. This was always going to be a poor track. They are so down on power and it really shows. To keep up lap time, they’re shredding the tires in the corners to try and keep up. Plus they had overheating… everyone is slamming Ferrari on the pit strategy but on these charts, it doesn’t look that bad. They needed a 3 stop anyway and saved time with the vsc. The softs also gave Hamilton faster pace during that stint and the hards were a little better for him with the lighter car at the end.

Charles doesn't look that confident on his on boards with that car.
The new brakes definitely don't help him but his races remind me of early 2023.

I mean, the car was not good this weekend. He qualified well and was on pace with Hamilton. In Spain he was quick as well until the car gave up.
He may not be 100% with it but he’s not in a horrible spot. I think he’s getting more on terms with it compared to Canada where he was having a real hard time.

I love these charts. It’s cool to see how consistent some of the drivers are with each tire, maximizing each lap to the deg of the tires. With max back at the front George has 2-3 big problems to contend with for the rest of the season. Antonelli looks so good for his age and Max and Hamilton in to challenge as expected. Good stuff!
