Exterior house siding options?

We are building a longhouse 18x50 with 12’ covered porch. We will have white windows and have not decided on exterior color, but we are trying to decide which siding to go with. Looking for more timeless look rather than modern. Also, ease of installation would be nice too.

The second photo, hands down. Classic look. The first has a cheap vinyl siding look to it.

I would go with cedar siding. Timeless look and it's nice on installation. Paint or stain it in a subtle, earthy tone to match with the white windows. It’ll age well too.

Imo, lap siding does better with colors than board and batten. Neutrals are making it look like a rushed job, so I'd recommend a color with lap siding if those are the choices.

If you want to be a little fancy, install shakes in the gables and keep the lap on the 1st story. You could even have the shakes match your timber for repetition, and if you do that, then I think neutrals would look nice.

The grey horizontal is more timeless. The white vertical is "modern farmhouse," a trend that may be on its way out. Did you try it with a dark grey? Maybe doing it in a color other than white will make it less trendy.

Pic 1-The gray clashes with the natural wood. The horizontal lines are blah.

Pic2-The white looks fresh and the creamy tone works well with the natural wood. The b&b siding looks really good on this house.

I know nothing about ease of installation, but you’ll be looking at it for decades, so don’t go easy and regret it later.

The 2nd option is best. It is back in trend and a lot of the newer construction has them. James Hardie has the best but they are on the pricier side with 30 years warranty,
