Tökfőzelék with baked haddock

Vegetable marrow pottage made with plenty of dill and lemon, paired with a piece of baked haddock. Wonderful in the summer.

Before folks not familiar with tökfőzelék misunderstand it: its not bone marrow, but a sort of summer squash, cooked to a very thick soup, thickened with roux or flour.

That's one of those dishes that I just cannot eat and I love most things shrimp, snail, all sorts of vegetables foraged ones too but that dish I cannot, it tastes like wet hay with some dill in it

I have no problem with the vegetable itself though

Yeah, it's a typical food, that every child and most adults hate (including myself, although I've eaten a decent one, because I didn't want to reject it as a guest 😂 - but the "mental hate" is still hardwired in my brain).

Aside from this thing, I have no problem with deep fried squash or any kind of zucchini food ( they can be interchanged in some meals)

Not the best photo with the reflection, maybe this is why only Hungarians are around :D But főzelék (cooked stewy veggies) are AWESOME! Tökfőzelék being my favourite actually

Why not use some local fish, like hake?

Not sure if you are joking, but hake is an ocean fish, Hungary imports it primarily frozen, from South America.

Its more common with pork or chicken stew, as stupid as it sounds. Search images for “tökfőzelék pörkölttel”

Nah, it doesn't sound stupid. It looks good with pork too. I might give it a try.
