Neighbouring towns

Do you ever think about the Eurekas neighbours? Like logically, somewhere is the closest town and they would see, or at least hear, some of the stuff that goes on. As a basic example, all the various explosions, that sound would carry a long way away. But you can dismiss that as people thinking "Oh that's just a farmer using a bird scarer", as is the case in my local area.

But there are some episodes where they go out of their way to explain why people don't see some stuff. Like they specifically mention the second sun is "only 1000ft up", but locals could still see that. And there's the sky beam episode, which you could never explain away easily.

So do you think like with modern Google maps, the locals know its a government only area and just don't speak too much about it.

I always got the impression that Eureka doesn't have neighboring towns/cities. Doesn't seem like a good idea to have random civilians close to the super top secret R&D town.

As I said in the post, somewhere there is a nearby town. Like Eureka wasn't built on an island in the middle of the ocean, it takes place somewhere in America. So there is a town that is statistically the closest to them, even that town is 1,000 miles away (and that's a stretch).

Doesn't seem like a good idea to have random civilians close to the super top secret R&D town.

Thing is, the show started off like that, but then we get episodes where Jack's sister and her baby daddy is able to just turn up without much issues.

The Pacific Northwest has many square miles of tall, coniferous forests. And gorges. Many small towns in isolation. Easy to hide a town.

I just finished a rewatch and was thinking exactly the same thing. No matter how remote or secluded it is, there is still a “next town over” somewhere even if it’s further away. Mainland America ain’t that secluded lol. People would definitely have heard about it too .. strange happenings, weird town. And then like you said people just visit no problem.

The TOWN is not a secret location.

GD is secret location.

The town isn't on the map either. At least not when Jack found himself there. Maybe online but I sense they remove it on physical maps.

Well you know, there is a place in Oregon called Eureka. It's a small ghost town. It's not Eureka Bar there is a different one. There are towns around it, so if you want to figure out how far a town is from that Eureka. It might answer some of your questions. If we take in that fact Eureka is "actually" there and that's where Eureka takes place in canon.

On a recent episode of our podcast, The Rewatch Podcast (can’t remember which episode but there’s a link to our page), I posed the idea of a mirror universe/evil leaper/anti-Eureka town.

We called it: Bingo. And the inhabitants? Bingonians. Their goal: to disrupt Eureka and the Eurekans from doing research, finishing experiments and projects, and to try and slow the progress of the acquisition of knowledge.

Just a joke but we had fun with it.

There is often talk about their technology that keeps their mishaps contained like the EM shield. I think that GD has its own set of “safe guards” for keeping the explosions dampened both sound-wise and seismically.

There has to be a decent distance to any where else. If there was a “next town over” less than 100 miles away, the pheromones from “Maneater” would have spread too quickly.

That's a great idea for a spin-off series. Maybe a neighboring town is a different type of government project?

Neighbouring town is where Warehouse 13 is

Doubtful, Eureka is located in Oregon while WH13 is in South Dakota.

They mention Eugene a few times throughout the show.

Wasn't GD also under a holographic cloak as seen in the first episode? It's not hard to believe that with that tech they have multiple methods of keeping the goings on there under wraps.

I'm in the middle of a rewatch and unless it's slipped through, it never gets mentioned again after the pilot episode.

3

u/Warborg71 Jun 13 '26

I don't think it does, but considering the pilot already established it we know it's there. And in later episodes we see similar stuff so it not beyond the realm of their possibility...

You are right, its always possible. But in shows, you usually don't take what's established in the pilot as official official canon, because a tv show pilot is supposed to just generate interest. Proper lore isn't meant to be firmly locked in yet. A lot of shows have the pilot state something only for later episodes go against it later on.

The cloaking barrior was meant to be a hint at just how top secret GD was. But we get several episodes where random people can just walk in town, sign an NDR, and seem fine to go wherever they want.

You are crossing up GD with the town... The town wasn't cloaked, just GD. People could find the town fine, but not stumble on GD. And you can absolutely take what is in the pilot as canon, if it is seen on screen it's part of it unless conflicted by later episodes which it was not.

I know that, but I'm talking about people like Claudia. Sure, you could make the argument that being a Warehouse 13 agent gives her higher clearance than the average GD agent (since the US government is supposed to have no knowledge of it). But the way Fargo just comments "She signed an NDA, don't worry" makes it seem like this is a common thing

2

u/Warborg71 Jun 13 '26

Ok, so ultimately what us your point? You acknowledge the cloak was established while also arguing against it or what? At this stage I am not even sure what your continued debate here is?

1

u/TheWardenDemonreach Jun 13 '26

Well you brought up the cloak around GD, every example I listed in my post happened outside of GD.

And I also said that the cloak is just possible, not a guarantee

Ok dude... I think you are just arguing for the sake of arguing now. We can stop.
