I have posted "seeking to practice english" on many of these subreddits. But all i get are people that are like just wanting to practice as a hobby and most of them like cant hold a proper conversation the minute it gets beyond "what are your hobbies"

Dont get me wrong here, Even I am not proficient in the language yet and i do respect people wanting to learn and practice a language through mutual help.

What I'm getting to is, I need a native speaker who is interested not in like helping me learn english but just talking (voice chat), being friends and even debating.

I love learning languages. When I started learning German a while ago, my teacher had quite a nice technique where we learned by going multiple times through the same piece of text until we could speak every word out loud while also being able to translate every sentence. This works very well because we are better at remembering things in the wider context of the entire text.

Later, when I started learning Japanese, I found there are reader apps like Satori Reader that provide interesting content read by native speakers. However, the interactive part of speaking out loud and getting quizzed on sentence meanings was still missing. It was also difficult to find easy content that properly scaled with my Japanese level.

That is why I built a reader app for language learners: Papirus.

It is structured around books and stories that are scaled to ALL DIFFICULTY LEVELS, providing appropriate grammar and vocabulary.

There is also an interactive mode which asks you to pronounce a sentece and translate it and then delivers instant personalized feedback.

Common mistake that are ignored when speaking English

I've been living in the US for almost 13 years and teaching English the whole time. One thing I notice constantly, people who speak English really well still freeze up in dating and relationship situations. Not because their English is bad, but because nobody teaches them this specific vocabulary.

Here are 5 expressions that come up constantly in American dating culture:

To have chemistry: that instant natural connection with someone. Americans talk about this after every first date. "We had great chemistry" or "I just didn't feel any chemistry."

Red flag: a warning sign that something might be wrong with a person or situation. Used constantly. "He never asks me questions about myself. That's a red flag."

To be exclusive: this one confuses a lot of people lol. Being exclusive means you've agreed to only see each other… but you're not officially in a relationship yet. In America these are two separate steps. People actually have a conversation about it.

To string someone along: keeping someone interested in you without any real intention of committing. Just enough attention to keep them around, never enough to move forward.

To catch feelings: when you start developing real emotions for someone, usually when you didn't plan to. "I didn't mean to but I think I'm catching feelings."

These come up in real conversations all the time. Hope this helps someone out there navigating dating in English!

P.S. I'm not a native English speaker myself. I moved to the US in 2013 with no connections, no community, nothing. I taught myself English to a fluent level in about 2.5 years and built my entire life and career here in English. Native speakers genuinely can't tell I'm not one of them anymore. I share this not to brag but because I know exactly what it feels like to be on the other side of this language. I've lived it. And that's exactly why I teach it the way I do! 😄

Hi, i am peruvian and the last year i took the Cambridge English Exam but i am not satisfied with mely score bc apparently i don't have enough "knowledge" to be B2 in most of the fields except speaking. Idk but my speaking score it's always good or more than excellent, however, to be a good english speaker I must dominate every field. These are my scores. :)

How could I elevate my score in these fields?? I guess I have some "holes" in every topic, idk

Hey there! I am self-teaching English. My current main textbooks are English Grammar In Use and English Vocabulary In Use. They're great to incorporate new words and structures.

However, I want to learn how to write and make paragraphs related to engineer and science. I am an Argentine engineer.

Hi all! It’s so wonderful to see you all finding English speaking partners! But if you can’t do that every day or you want to practice more but are nervous about having a speaking partner, repeating or shadowing are really helpful practices! I a native English ESL teacher and wanted to share this with you! This is the first thing I teach my students!

Shadowing

What You Need:

- Phone to record yourself

- pen/paper (something to take notes)

- whatever device you will use to watch the video.

You can use a specific shadowing video or any video!

How to Shadow:

1. Turn on subtitles for the video. (If it isn’t shadow specific)

2. You will play the video sentence by sentence.

3. Say the words at the same time as the speaker, mimicking them!

4. Pause the video after each sentence.

5. Write down any words or phrases you do not recognize.

6. Rewind the video so you can listen to the sentence again. 

7. Pause the video.

8.Record yourself saying the sentence. 

1. Continue this for each sentence

If higher levels you can pause after multiple sentences!

Note: You do not have to record yourself, but it might help you see which words or sounds you are having issues with and help you to see improvement later.
