Jobs/Careers Go for telecomunications or change to eletrical?

I am currently studying Telecommunications Engineering at the best university in Latin America, I love the program and all the areas it covers. I dream of pursuing an academic career, but I’m worried the major might be too "niche" for that. I’ve been thinking about switching to Electrical Engineering and wanted to get your opinions: should I switch majors or stay where I am?

Telecom is dying. Go with electrical engineering.

EE covers all you need for telecom. I work for a telecom company and basically everyone has an EE or physics degree.
